Chapter 496: Chapter 495: Pom-Pom Battles the Monster

What the hell is that thing!

When Tang Yuqiong and the mountaineering team saw the creatures fighting, their mouths hung open wide enough to fit a large duck egg.

That’s right!

Both are monsters.

There’s no need to talk much about the Five-headed Monster Bird. In this world, the mental resilience of the people is strong. After all, the ’cow-pig-bird’—a grotesque creature with a pig’s head, cow’s body, and bird’s wings—is still a hotly pursued fantasy ingredient in the market, which shows how voracious their desire to ’eat’ is.

The signs are showing that invasive species are increasingly becoming more common, from the global popularity of outdoor food shows, outdoor adventure programs, and celebrity chef reality shows, one can easily understand the mainstream culture of the present.

The public is also deepening their understanding of fantasy ingredients, and without a doubt, the IGO organization is the driving force behind it.

But... what is that colorful monster that is utterly thrashing the Five-headed Monster Bird?

Unavoidably, the gaze of a group of people is firmly captured by the ’furball’ shimmering with colored light.

The streaming commentary is also shocked, as someone actually recognized the five-headed bird:

"That’s Monster Bird Goro Lud!"

"A fantasy creature? What’s its hunting grade? Oh no, Sister Qiong has bumped into the Food Mercenaries hunting birds of prey, I’ve heard there are a lot of unregulated mercenaries these days... be very careful!"

"The point is... what the hell is that colored furball, where are the wiki masters at?!"

Tang Yuqiong managed to finally shut her mouth, her eyes filled with a thick, dazed look, glanced at the streaming commentary, then at the forest below the ridge where the ’colored furball’ was relentlessly pressuring the five-headed birds, clearly dominating. She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but realized she was at a loss for words, feeling an uncomfortable pang in her heart.

Exactly.

What is that?

She was a hundred percent certain that this kind of ’colored furball’ did not exist in her mental encyclopedia of fantasy monsters!

Suddenly, the tide of the battle shifted.

The Five-headed Monster Bird let out a series of urgent cooing sounds, in a panic, it flapped its mostly featherless, degenerated back wings. Unexpectedly, its small, pickup-truck-sized bird body suddenly lifted more than three meters off the ground, a height that likely represented the limits of its flying capability, its blood raining steadily down from the sky.

"Crap! It’s coming this way!" the streaming commentary exploded.

The mountaineers, including Tang Yuqiong, were startled, not expecting the five-headed bird to attempt escape by taking to the sky and heading in their direction!

Whoosh.

But with a flash of colorful light!

The ’colored furball’ dashed across the ground, naturally, to others it seemed almost like rolling, as it swept through the forest, any obstacle trees or boulders in its path knocked away by its scattering colorful strands of hair.

Then, from the jungle to the slope, in the blink of an eye, the furball "rolled" right beneath the Five-headed Monster Bird.

"Hair lock!"

A faint voice called out.

That voice was not noticed by the mountaineers, nor by the live commentary viewers, who were too preoccupied with the bird overhead to notice this subtle and easily overlooked human sound.

"Oh my god!"

Her head feeling like it had been struck by lightning, Tang Yuqiong was well-trained with keen senses, she caught that slight sound clearly, covering her mouth in shock, thinking: Could, could it be that there’s someone inside the furball?

Whoosh whoosh whoosh.

The colorful strands of hair suddenly split into several streams, whipping through the air like whips. The Five-headed Monster Bird squawked in alarm as the colored braids wrapped around its legs layer by layer, as if making a mummy.

A thunderous boom echoed, shards of stone flying.

The five-headed bird didn’t get far before disaster struck; the braids pulled tight, all exerting force in unison, with a twist and a fling, the creature was slapped onto the ridge as if by a gigantic hand, and with a loud crash, dust and debris rolled through the air.

The mountaineers, including Tang Yuqiong, broke out in cold sweat. They turned their gaze towards the pit that had appeared out of nowhere just meters away. Then they stared at the pit where the mangled creature was struggling, its remaining four heads pecking at the hair waterfall, constantly squawking, utterly dumbfounded.

Is it over just like that?

"Annoying!"

Faint sounds of words continued to spread, and the "colorful fur ball" once again split into several colorful braids, bundling the four bird heads together in a knot, trapping them inside, and covering them layer by layer.

Now, half of the monster bird’s body was "mummified."

"Work’s done!"

Inside the fur ball, Xia Yu felt utterly depressed. He walked towards the woods, dragging along the bound monster bird with his hair, which remained in his ’hair demon’ form, gradually disappearing from everyone’s sight.

"Cough, cough, cough..."

The disheveled mercenary Jintan Shun staggered to his feet. He had already applied coagulant emergency medicine on the bloody hole in his back, and because of the severe blood loss, his tan, chiseled face bore a sickly pallor.

Picking up his AA-12 shotgun, Jintan Shun watched as Xia Yu vanished; he didn’t say anything out loud but chuckled to himself. Uh, it did seem somewhat shameful to appear in front of an audience in that form. Jintan Shun had witnessed the entire process of Xia Yu’s transformation, and as he picked up the weapon and loaded a new magazine, he pondered, "Could it be a kind of battle-purpose ’Food Mercenary’ cell?"

It was clear Xia Yu had left the aftermath to him.

Hmm?

Ready to stop the climbing group from getting closer and to tell them that this was a no-go combat zone, he unexpectedly kicked something that had fallen from Xia Yu’s exploded backpack—a small iron box with its lid flipped open, revealing neatly stacked leaves inside, looking like bandages. The mercenary uncle’s eyes widened with surprise as he exclaimed, "Is this Doctor Aloe?"

The wounds were urgent!

Having found high-grade emergency supplies, Jintan Shun could no longer be bothered with the tourists. He sat down, took off his shirt, picked up a piece of ’Doctor Aloe,’ and despite some hesitation, still used a small knife to slice open the skin and apply it to his back. He leaned his head back in relief, his complexion flushing with pleasure, "Indeed, it’s a high-grade product, so refreshing, so good—"

"This kid is loaded with treasures!"

After a moment, he opened his eyes and clutched the small iron box tightly in his arms.

For a mercenary, who has come through life and death, these ’Doctor Aloes’ were undoubtedly lifesaving medicine.

Soon after,

Tang Yuqiong and the hikers tentatively approached the mercenary sitting on the ground.

Looking around, Tang Yuqiong surveyed the destruction of the battlefield and was secretly shocked—the trees as thick as a waist had been broken numinously, the forest was a chaotic mess as if a super cyclone had passed through, making it unrecognizable.

The hikers were somewhat fearful.

But Tang Yuqiong was unexpectedly daring and called out to Jintan Shun to wake him.

"Are you hunting down a vicious bird?"

She asked.

"Please cooperate with our work!"

"The battle’s not over, please leave!"

Jintan Shun said sternly, twisting his waist. His back wound seemed to have completely healed, with no pain whatsoever. Instead, there was the tingling sensation of scabbing and cell tissue repairing itself. He was astounded by the quality of ’Doctor Aloe’—the higher the quality, the stronger the healing capability, almost reaching the level of ’flesh regeneration’.

Thinking this, he held the box in his arms even tighter, his gaze fiercely fixed on the group in front of him.

"Leave—"

Standing up with his gun at the ready, Jintan Shun commanded.

"Let’s go, Miss Tang!"

The hikers said one after the other, intimidated by Jintan Shun’s fierce demeanor; he was half-soaked in blood, yet showed no signs of weakness.

"Right."

Tang Yuqiong also knew better than to anger a mercenary in the wild, and besides, it was for her own good as the battle had indeed not ended. What would they do if that ’colorful fur ball’ came back?

So, ignoring the goading in the live stream comments, Tang Yuqiong and the hikers quickly left.

But before leaving, Tang Yuqiong’s question made Jintan Shun secretly burst into an inner chuckle:

"What kind of monster is that colorful fur ball?"

"Shh!"

Jintan Shun replied seriously, "It’s a secret not to be disclosed. Please help us to keep it confidential for our organization!"

"Oh, okay!"
