Chapter 404: Chapter 403: Admitting Defeat

"Ding!"

Yuchuan Ayaka was startled awake by an exclamation.

The host, Chiyoda Aichi’s exclamation echoed through the venue,

"The final voting results are now displayed on the big screen!"

Unbeknownst to her, all four judges had already returned to their seats, and their hands were on the voting devices on the table.

This was the real voting showdown.

Verbal support that hadn’t yet turned into actual votes was nothing but a reflection in a mirror, a moon in the water, always liable to reverse.

Yuchuan Ayaka looked up.

On the big screen were the headshots of both culinary battle participants.

Below, the numbers of votes.

to 0!

Under her portrait, the number was zero!

Zero!!

After checking the numbers repeatedly with wide eyes, Yuchuan Ayaka froze as if struck by lightning, her face deathly pale.

...

The culinary competition came to a close with a huge reversal.

There were no cheers.

Because the audience, still in stunned silence, struggled to accept this unexpected outcome.

There were no celebratory words.

Upon finally seeing the clear score numbers on the big screen, Xia Yu took a deep breath. If he were at home, he’d definitely have flopped down directly onto the tatami, taking a day and night’s rest first. He was that tired; both his heart and body were exhausted.

"The ’finisher’ dish lost!"

The Yuchuan family was in complete disarray.

Even the Polar Star Dormitory buddies, who had always stood by Xia Yu, displayed shocked expressions at the final result of the culinary competition, unable to believe it.

"Finisher!"

Xingping Chuangzhen clenched his fists, eyes sparkling with excitement, "Instructor Xia has also created his own ’finisher’ dish!"

"Hey, hey, Xingping, didn’t you hear what the General said? Instructor Xia’s ’finisher’ dish can’t be replicated... which means, without the right ingredients, Instructor Xia himself can’t make a second serving of the Finisher Sashimi Platter!"

Ichise Hui was resigned.

"Of course I heard it, but a one-time ’finisher’ is still a ’finisher!’ He defeated that woman, Yuchuan Ayaka!"

In Xingping Chuangzhen’s heart, there was another voice:

I must catch up!

Catch up to that man who has ’the youngest Super Chef in Neon’s history’!

The closing ceremony, hastily conducted, did not suit the culinary competition.

The winner’s departure was too low-key.

Without accepting the audience’s cheers, Xia Yu retreated backstage to the dressing room.

Thud, thud!

Just as he had received the system’s treatment and, per usual, was wrapping his right hand with a bandage, there was a knock on the door.

"Come in—"

Xia Yu casually responded.

A gust of fragrance drifted in; Xia Yu glanced over and saw it was Reiko Liangzi, Morioka Makoto, Tiqie Eriina, and others who had come in a group, instantly filling the small dressing room.

"What are you all doing backstage?" Xia Yu asked, amused.

Yoshino Yuuki squeezed forward, her eyes wide with surprise, "Instructor Xia, how come I feel like you are so calm and not excited at all?"

"Do you know who you defeated?"

"Yuchuan Ayaka!"

Xia Yu waved his hand dismissively, "Of course, I know who my opponent was, but beating her is nothing to be proud of."

"This culinary battle just proved that there are no invincible recipes."

"The same applies to ’finishers,’" Xia Yu couldn’t help but sigh.

It wasn’t that Yuchuan Ayaka wasn’t outstanding, but rather his planned recipe had taken full advantage of the right time and place. If he had still lost, it would mean his skill level was insufficient and needed more time to accumulate.

Ignoring the warm inquiries from friends, Xia Yu checked the rewards for winning the culinary battle.

Ten Talent Points had been credited to his account.

The Forbidden Ingredient[Gem Meat]had been unlocked.

Then, opening his backpack, Xia Yu’s eyes glinted with obsession as he looked at a golden, glistening dish inside, and he swallowed hard.

"[Forbidden Qilin Level·Gemstone Banquet]: A dish crafted by a top Lin Chef, using the Forbidden Ingredient ’Gem Meat’ as the primary component; consumption leads to unexpected bodily changes."

"Note: The host can only consume one Forbidden Dish every 30 days."

Unexpected changes?

Xia Yu became instantly curious. Could it be that Taboo Qilin-level Dishes held some sort of secret?

He set aside his victory over Yuchuan Ayaka, pondering in silence.

...

Time slipped quietly to eleven o’clock at night.

Deep into the night, the bustling Moon Sky venue, lively since evening, finally returned to its usual quietude.

The spectator seats were littered with rubbish, as Far Moon students busily picked it up, scattered about.

Directing them was none other than Tiqie Eriina.

Beep beep!

Her phone rang from her pocket, and Tiqie Eriina answered the call, then her expression turned strange, "I know! I’ll look for it in the venue!"

After the call, she walked onto the stage without further ado.

The two kitchen counters there had not yet been removed.

As she drew closer, she could hear soft sobs.

"I knew it!"

Tiqie Eriina circled around the kitchen counters and finally found the princess of the Yuchuan Family, curled up in a corner, lacking any trace of her goddess-like demeanor.

Hearing footsteps,

the princess of the Yuchuan Family lifted her head.

The venue lights were not off, and Tiqie Eriina saw this twenty-something sister with eyes red and swollen from crying, like an orphan abandoned by the world, and couldn’t help but find it amusing, yet also felt a sympathetic sorrow.

It was as if it had been her, hiding in a corner, bawling her eyes out after losing to that guy.

In Yuchuan Ayaka, Tiqie Eriina saw her own past self.

"Hey, Miss Yuchuan, are you scared?"

Sympathy was one thing, but Tiqie Eriina was firm in her stance, her words laced with mockery, and certainly not polite.

Sniffling fiercely,

Yuchuan Ayaka propped herself up on the kitchen counter and stood, towering over Tiqie Eriina by a head, quickly creating a sense of physical dominance.

Sensing that this woman might be turning hostile, Tiqie Eriina immediately stepped back.

Seeing the flustered "Divine Tongue," the princess of the Yuchuan Family finally showed a hint of a smile.

"You came looking for me, right..."

Yuchuan Ayaka tidied up her kitchen counter, packed the remaining ingredients into a food box, and turned to leave.

"The Yuchuan Abbot and Master Yizhen are waiting for you in the backstage rest area!" Tiqie Eriina shouted after her retreating figure.

"Thank you."

Back in her own dressing room, Yuchuan Ayaka found Xia Yu’s room across empty, with the door wide open. Standing outside, she couldn’t resist peering inside.

So he’s gone.

Yuchuan Ayaka couldn’t quite name her feelings. A silent sigh of relief.

Of course, there was the dejection of defeat, but it was no longer the despair of two hours prior.

She pushed the door open and, in her dressing room, found the Yuchuan Abbot and Master Yizhen waiting.

The Yuchuan Abbot looked at his granddaughter with tear-stained cheeks.

"Not bad!"

With a slight lift of his white brows, his stern face softened a bit, the Yuchuan Abbot said, "You didn’t let this defeat crush you; you’ve adjusted your mood quickly! Losing is normal for a chef. It’s after tasting defeat that one has more drive to move forward!"

The Shi Lin Temple’s Master Yizhen, chuckling, asked, "Ayaka, you had also tasted Chef Xia’s sashimi platter; tell me honestly, do you accept your defeat? Are you convinced?"

Yuchuan Ayaka’s lips quivered, and after a moment, she lowered her head and said, "...he defeated me."

"Good—"

Master Yizhen slapped his thigh, "To face your defeat shows that your mindset has come around; we won’t have to worry about you."

The two elder monks didn’t say much more and rose to take their leave.

Their conversation echoed down the empty hallways:

"Such a pity though, the ’Signature’ dishes can’t be replicated."

"Isn’t that the truth..."

"I really wanted to eat my fill in one go. As for the ’Signature’ sashimi dishes, I’ve come up with a nickname for that kid, called ’The Emperor of Sashimi’, Tao Hui what do you think..."

"The Emperor of Sashimi? But he insisted on calling it ’sashimi’, right?"
