Chapter 967: Moroi’s Fiend 6
Khalsa nagari
" What! Are you sure?", a Sikh carriage business owner asked the person from the logistics department of the military, with disbelief written all over his face,
"Of course, sir. Please take a look at this, it’s a direct order from His Majesty the Emperor himself, placing the entire state of Khalsa Nagari under military administration."
The logistics officer promptly handed over a thick paper document, its texture and weight uncannily similar to that of a Varaha note.
Taking the document in hand and scanning its contents, the business owner, though deeply unwilling to accept the truth, found himself with no choice. After all, he had never heard of anyone successfully counterfeiting the empire’s currency. And since this paper in his hand felt so similar to a Varaha, then it could only be a legitimate government-issued document.
Still, even though he was convinced the order was real, the unwillingness in his heart remained. His actions were slow and hesitant, showing clearly that he was complying only because he had no other choice.
*Sigh*
" Is there no other way, sir? I have built up my business from a single carriage to 10 carriages over the span of several years now. If all of these are taken over by the military, what will my livelihood become?" he was filled with bitterness of being unable to do anything as he lamented his bad luck and ill fate.
Looking at the unwilling expression, it was clear that the Sikh businessman did not understand what he was encountering. But the logistics officer did not look surprised, because the last time the nation had initiated the military economy administration, it was during the war against the Mughal Empire, and that was more than a decade ago. Not to mention, the place where the effects of the military economy were felt was the southern part of the empire, and in the northern part of the empire, it was barely noticeable.
In fact, forget the small-time business owner like the Sikh man in front of him, even he himself was not aware of the workings of the military economy mode.
It was only after reading about it in the military academy did he understood what had transpired in those years,
" You don’t have to worry, sir, although the military will be taking over your carriages as well as rights to operate your transportation company, it will only be a temporary situation until the pandemic is brought under control"
" And even when the carriages are brought into the control of the military, if you want, you can agree to serve the military as a logistic personnel and still manage your own company under the system of the military logistics department"
The Sikh businessman somewhat calmed down, but he was still a little hesitant. Even if the officer said that his carriages and his company will be returned to him, it would still be like renting his carriages to the military for an uncertain amount of time for no pay at all. Being a somewhat savvy businessman, he knew this was definitely a loss
The officer keenly noticed this thought in the middle-aged man and silently whispered, " In fact, sir, although your company will be nationalised, it is not without benefits"
" Ah, what do u mean?"
"Let me tell you a secret. More than 15 years ago, the nation was put under military administration, similar to how Khalsa Nagari is now. And at that time, all the company owners who had nationalised their companies not only didn’t lose any money, but actually made huge profits. After the company was nationalised, they no longer had to invest anything; it was the government pouring money into those companies to expand manufacturing."
" When these companies were once again privatised, the original owners made returns of tens or even hundreds of times. You know, the biggest example of this is actually the largest carriage manufacturer in the empire today, Aakarsh Carriages. It is said that Mr. Akarsh grew his carriage manufacturing business from a small town’s workshop to the manufacturing behemoth it is today"
The Sikh man’s eyes lit up
" Think about it, sir, the military economy mode is only initiated in the state of Khalsa Nagari. Maybe this is not a misfortune but a great opportunity."
Hearing all this, the Sikh businessman quickly agreed to nationalisation and signed the documents, but he was not fully convinced of the story told by the officer. If there was anything he learnt in his years of business experience and 3 decades of life experience, it is that if something is too good to be true, then it probably is, so he found the only person in the city who had come from the southern part of the empire and was old enough to remember what had happened back in those days.
After hearing what the old real estate businessman, who had unfortunately become stuck in the city, said, the Sikh businessman was overjoyed
" It is true!!"
He exclaimed, and the very day he signed up to be mobilised and applied to work in his own company as a carriage driver
To his surprise, due to the lack of people with experience in local routes, he was actually made the director of his own company and asked to manage ten more carriages that had been placed under his wing. When he found out that, after the military economy ended and his company was privatised again, he wouldn’t have to pay anything for the expanded carriage fleet, he laughed out loud and repeatedly thanked God for his blessings.
---
Such situations were happening all over the Khalsa Nagari state, where companies were being nationalised at a very fast rate, and business owners experienced the sweetness of not having to spend any money to become rich. But these were only the minority; after all, the majority of the people were extremely dissatisfied with the actions taken by the military.
" Where are you taking my son? Hey, leave him alone, hey, don’t you hear what I say? I said Leave him alone "
" Please don’t take my son, please, I beg you, I beg you, sir"
" Hey, no, my son is innocent, he hasn’t done anything wrong, where are you taking him? "
" He’s just a kid! He doesn’t even know what he’s doing! Please, let him go!"
" Wait, wait! I’m coming with you! Don’t touch him! I’ll come, just let him go!"
" You animals! Is this how you treat citizens? Is this justice?"
" I’ll call the Commissioner! This won’t end well for any of you!"
" Get your filthy hands off him! He’s a patriot! He joined to protect his people!"
" Sir, I swear on my life, my son was forced into it. They brainwashed him! Please give him a chance!"
" Do you know who I am? How dare you lay a hand on my brother, quickly unhand him...ah, hey, stop it, hey, stop, no, no, no, let me go, I’m the leader of the Khalistan Rakshak, quickly unhand me, quickly unhand me "
Parents of teenagers affiliated with some form of militia unit were asking in all sorts of attitudes, some begging, some demanding, some cursing, and some pleading, to let go of their offspring.
However, unfortunately, despite their requests and threats, the military had a death order, so they ruthlessly pulled away all the teenagers affiliated with militia and locked them up in separate houses that were previously prepared for workers of the Bharat Russia Economic Corridor Project, or in case of housing not available, they were directly locked up in separate tents very close to the temporary military barracks that were being set up constantly throughout the state around every city and major town.
Amidst all the changes sweeping through Khalsa Nagari, the Moroi’s Fiend still ran rampant. Every moment, someone new was infected or sent into isolation, many of them from the military, police, or medical staff. In their fight against the plague, exposure was almost inevitable. Ironically, it was those on the frontlines, not the civilians in isolation zones, who faced the highest risk, and that’s exactly what happened.
Amidst all the changes sweeping through Khalsa Nagari, the Moroi’s Fiend still ran rampant. Every moment, someone new was infected, someone else sent into isolation, including hundreds from the military, police, and medical services. In their fight against the plague, exposure was almost inevitable. Ironically, those sent to protect others were at greater risk than the civilians in the isolation zones, and due to this, unsurprisingly, many hesitated or outright rejected orders. Yet, the majority stepped up, fulfilling their duty and heading to the frontlines with the heart of the brave.

Back in the royal capital, Vijay finally got some good news.
" What, is it true? " Vijay asked as he suddenly got up from the chair.
Despite being completely dishevelled, Vinay, who was sitting opposite the emperor, smiled with a radiant glow and nodded, " It is true, Your Majesty, we have finally discovered the characteristics and behaviour of the Moroi’s Fiend."
" Not only that, we have also come up with a concoction that will be helpful in controlling this disease and stopping it from spreading to the mainland."
This news came very unexpectedly to Vijay. Despite being only a claim that a concoction was discovered to control the disease, it was still a miracle in this day and age.
" Tell me about it", he couldn’t hold on any more and immediately asked.
" Yes, Your Majesty."
" After months of research, we found out that the germ we can see through the microscope is actually the trigger for the disease."
" The actual perpetrator had always been within many people’s bodies."
" In fact, we only got to know about this after using the advanced microscope Mr. Pillai had developed only a few weeks ago."
" And this germ, smaller than what we believed to be Moroi’s Fiend, is the actual Moroi Fiend."
" After entering the body, this small devil does nothing and simply exists in the body for a long time, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike."
" And the outbreak of the trigger germ was its opportunity. As soon as this small germ realises that the bigger trigger has entered the body, it is activated, and it wreaks havoc on the body and helps the bigger germ replicate at the fastest speed, tearing apart the muscle tissues, nerve tissues, and immune system in the process. This is the reason why the symptoms include weakness, hallucinations, and other things."
" We were able to prove this after autopsy, where tissues of muscles and nerves had been degraded compared to a healthy person’s death. "
