Chapter 94: Rachel Kidnaps Arthur
Diane stared at the note, her heartbeat was drumming against her chest like it lost control, and at full speed
Adrian had been in her office, no more doubt about that...
It was bold, reckless—even for him.
He wasn’t just trying to intimidate her.
He was telling her, in no uncertain terms, that he was watching.
And that meant he was close.
Riot was standing beside her, arms crossed, his jaw tight as he studied the note.
"This guy’s got some nerve," he muttered. "Walking in here like he owns the place."
Diane exhaled slowly, tapping the edge of the paper against her palm.
"He’s pushing me," she murmured. "He wants me to react."
Riot arched a brow.
"And what’s the plan, boss? Because if it were up to me, I’d be hunting this bastard down right now."
Diane’s lips curled into a slow, long smirk. "That’s exactly what we’re going to do."
By noon, the trap was set.
Diane had made a single, well looked move—one that Adrian wouldn’t be able to resist.
She’d arranged a high-profile meeting, something flashy enough to get his attention.
A meeting that would make it seem like she was transferring a very large sum of money—Gabriel’s money—into a new account.
In reality, the entire thing was bait.
The bank, the transaction, the security detail—all of it was a carefully crafted illusion.
One that would force Adrian to make a move.
"I still think we should’ve put a tracker in the damn money," Riot muttered as they stepped into the black SUV outside the office.
Diane smirked. "Patience."
He gave her a look. "You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?"
She slid into the back seat, smoothing down her skirt. "I enjoy winning."
The meeting was held in the penthouse suite of a high-end financial firm in Midtown.
The moment Diane stepped out of the SUV, she could feel the eyes on her.
The city was pressing in from all sides.
Adrian was watching.
Good.
She walked into the building, flanked by two security officers, with Riot trailing behind her, keeping an eye on their surroundings.
Inside the boardroom, everything was ready.
The "bank executives" were in place—operatives handpicked by Gabriel’s team, their roles carefully scripted.
The security cameras had been looped to show only what they wanted Adrian to see.
And then, they waited.
The transfer was initiated.
Numbers flashed across the screen—millions upon millions of dollars shifting into what appeared to be an untraceable offshore account.
It was a lie.
A beautiful, intricate lie designed to lure a predator out of hiding.
And it worked.
Half an hour later, Riot’s burner phone buzzed.
He glanced at the screen and smirked. "Gotcha."
Diane turned toward him, expectant.
Riot tapped the phone.
"A hit on the transaction. Someone tried to intercept it—trace the funds. Guess who?"
Diane’s smirk deepened. "Adrian."
"Bingo."
The team had been monitoring every possible access point, waiting for the moment Adrian took the bait.
And he had.
Diane stood, smoothing down her blouse. "Where?"
Riot’s grin widened.
"A small office downtown. Nothing flashy. Just a shell company registered under a fake name. But guess what? Our dear friend Adrian slipped up. He logged in himself."
Diane’s pulse quickened. They had him.
She turned to the head of security. "Send the location to Gabriel, and Micha. Tell him we’re moving."
Riot cracked his knuckles. "Now this is my kind of business meeting."
The office building was a nondescript structure in Lower Manhattan, the kind of place designed to blend into the city.
Perfect for someone trying to stay hidden.
Diane and Riot arrived first, their security team moved into position.
Diane adjusted the small earpiece Gabriel had given her. "Do we have eyes inside?"
A voice crackled in her ear. "Affirmative. He’s on the second floor. Alone."
Diane exhaled slowly, anticipation curling in her stomach.
She turned to Riot. "Let’s go say hello."
They moved quickly, silently, taking the stairs two at a time.
The door to the second floor was slightly ajar—an amateur mistake.
Diane glanced at Riot. He nodded.
She pushed the door open.
And there he was.
Adrian Langley sat at a desk, completely unaware of their presence.
His fingers danced across the keyboard, his brows furrowed in concentration.
He didn’t see them until it was too late.
The moment Adrian looked up, Diane smiled. "Miss me?"
His eyes widened. His chair scraped against the floor as he shot to his feet. "Diane—"
"Sit," she ordered, stepping inside.
Adrian glanced at Riot, then back to her. His lips curled into a smirk. "Clever girl. But you’re too late."
Diane arched a brow. "Too late for what?"
Adrian leaned back, completely at ease. "The game’s already in motion."
Riot stepped forward. "You really want to be smug right now, buddy?"
Adrian ignored him.
"Do you honestly think I’d walk into your trap without setting one of my own?"
Diane narrowed her eyes. "Explain."
Adrian chuckled. "Oh, Diane. You should’ve stayed out of this."
Her phone buzzed.
She glanced down. A message.
Her breath caught.
"Arthur is safe... for now."
Diane’s blood ran cold.
She looked up at Adrian, her hand tightening around the phone. "What did you do?"
Adrian’s smirk widened. "Like I said—too late."
Panic clawed at Diane’s throat, but she forced herself to stay calm.
Arthur.
If Adrian had anything to do with her brother, she would burn the entire city to the ground.
She stepped closer, her voice so low and deadly. "If you touched him—"
Adrian raised his hands in fake surrender. "Relax. He’s fine... for now."
Riot’s patience snapped.
He grabbed Adrian by the collar and slammed him against the desk. "Start talking, now."
Adrian didn’t flinch. "You’re making a mistake."
Diane grabbed his wrist, pressing down hard.
"Tell me where Arthur is."
Adrian’s smirk finally faded. "I don’t have him. But I know who does."
Diane’s nails dug into his skin. "Who?"
Adrian exhaled slowly. "Rachel."
The name hit her like a punch to the gut.
No.
It couldn’t be.
"She lost everything," Adrian continued. "And desperate people do desperate things."
Rachel wouldn’t—would she?
Riot let out a low curse. "If she took Arthur—"
Diane took one stable breath. "You’re lying."
Adrian tilted his head. "Am I?"
Her phone buzzed again.
Another message.
"Court wasn’t enough. You took my life. Now I take yours."
Diane’s chest constricted.
"Rachel..."
She looked at Adrian, her grip tightened. "Where is she?"
Adrian’s smirk returned. "Now that is the right question."
Diane let go of him, turning to Riot. "We need to move. Now."
Riot nodded, already reaching for his phone. "I’ll get the team."
Diane turned back to Adrian. "You’re coming with us."
Adrian’s eyes twinkled. "Wouldn’t have it any other way."
Diane clenched her fists.
Rachel had taken Arthur...
