Chapter 155: 151 The First Argument Between Sangsang and Her Child
"Shui Lian, that Tian Tian has really been driven away. I just went to check, and there’s no sign of her at all!" Yao Fangfang excitedly rushed to Shui Lian’s house to report.
"She just left?" Shui Lian furrowed her brows in thought. Strange, she hadn’t heard even a hint of it. Could it be... she was found out? Other than that, she couldn’t think of anything else. Useless thing!
"Yeah, she just left. She’ll never come back to cause trouble again. Shui Lian, you’re amazing—getting rid of her so quickly." Yao Fangfang giggled, thinking of nothing else. As long as Tian Tian was gone, the process didn’t matter to her. However, her gratitude toward Shui Lian grew deeper.
Shui Lian smiled faintly: "As long as you’re happy. But make sure you work hard—don’t waste the opportunity I fought for you."
Yao Fangfang blushed and timidly nodded.
...
That day, Xu Yiyuan came over again to discuss the secret only he and Tian Sangsang knew, but unexpectedly brought along Xu Xixi.
It wasn’t Xu Yiyuan’s intention to bring her; Xu Xixi, upon learning he was going out, threw a tantrum, crying and fussing until he had no choice but to take her along.
"Qianqian, you look pretty again today." Tian Sangsang greeted her with a smile. This little girl was undeniably lucky—she had a father who went out of his way to prepare an early surprise for her birthday. Surely, it would be a delightful surprise. But then, what about her own son? When was her son’s birthday? She realized she didn’t even know Meng Shuyan’s birthday.
Xu Xixi glared at her with almond-shaped eyes, pouting in displeasure, refusing to respond.
What’s wrong? Tian Sangsang assumed she was just sulking.
Xu Yiyuan gave Tian Sangsang an apologetic look, put Xu Xixi down, and gently patted her head: "Qianqian, Daddy and Auntie have something to talk about. Why don’t you play with your little brother, okay?"
Today, Meng Shuyan was not in his room as usual but was outside instead. Tian Sangsang added, "Yanyan, play with your big sister, okay?"
The two children exchanged a quick look, silently understanding each other, and walked into a nearby room.
Meng Shuyan glanced at Qianqian and said gloomily, "You sit there. I need to write."
Xu Xixi walked up to him, staring at the writing in his notebook—writing much prettier than hers—and asked, in a defiant tone, "Why do you know how to write? Did your mom teach you?"
"Of course." Meng Shuyan raised his chin arrogantly.
"You don’t have a dad." Xu Xixi suddenly remarked.
Meng Shuyan put down his pen, unwilling to back down, and fired back, "You don’t even have a mom."
"Your mom wants to steal my dad." Xu Xixi said with hostility.
"Your dad wants to steal my mom." Meng Shuyan retorted without hesitation.
"You’re not my little brother."
"You’re not my little sister either."
"I’m older than you!" Xu Xixi, feeling her dignity threatened, pouted and emphasized, "I’m not your little sister."
"You’re dumber than me. You’re just a dummy." Meng Shuyan blinked his charming almond-shaped eyes.
The two of them glared at each other with fiery determination, eyes red-rimmed, fully immersed in their parents’ emotional entanglements. Kids are sensitive—they always have an uncanny ability to sense the subtle tensions between their parents.
From outside, Tian Sangsang and Xu Yiyuan, who were chatting, suddenly heard the sounds of crying and fighting coming from the room. They exchanged worried glances before hurriedly rushing inside.
Inside the modestly sized room, the two children were wrestling fiercely, caught in a chaotic fight.
The sound of children’s cries mixed with the barks of Little Milk Tea, creating utter chaos in the room.
Tian Sangsang separated the two children, while Xu Yiyuan scooped up Xu Xixi.
Pulling Meng Shuyan aside, Tian Sangsang frowned and asked, "What’s going on here? Why did you start fighting?"
The two children remained silent, staring tearfully at each other, refusing to back down.
The atmosphere grew awkward. Xu Yiyuan asked with concern, "Yanyan, are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?"
"No," Tian Sangsang shook her head.
"Qianqian is fine too." Xu Yiyuan let out an almost imperceptible sigh before saying, "I’d better take Qianqian home now. Sorry for the trouble."
"It’s just kids playing around—you don’t need to worry too much about it." Tian Sangsang stepped forward to see him off.
Xu Yiyuan nodded. How could he not worry? Qianqian’s temper had grown increasingly strange lately. He knew for sure she was in the wrong this time. His daughter always had an inexplicable hostility toward Tian Sangsang, which likely extended to her son. It’s unfortunate her son had to be dragged into this.
After seeing Xu Yiyuan off, Tian Sangsang squatted down and gently smoothed out Meng Shuyan’s messy clothes and hair. "Why did you fight? You’re a boy—you should be more accommodating to the girls, shouldn’t you?"
"She provoked me first." Meng Shuyan looked at her in frustration, his nose red. "She said I don’t have a dad. But I do. I just hate the way she talks about me like that—it’s so annoying. She doesn’t even have a mom. She’s so hateful..."
"Meng Shuyan!" Tian Sangsang let go of him and raised her voice without meaning to. "How many times do I have to tell you to grow up a little, huh!? Every time something about your dad comes up, you lose your head. Tell me, how long are you going to keep acting like this, huh?!"
For the first time, Tian Sangsang snapped at Meng Shuyan. She had reached her limit with Jiang Jinghuai always hovering between them!
Meng Shuyan stared at her blankly, tears streaming down his face.
"Let me ask you—do you want to live with your cheap dad or with your mom? If you’d rather live with him, then go find him right now. I won’t stop you." Tian Sangsang pointed firmly at the door. "Go!"
Meng Shuyan froze in terror, his dark eyes full of fear. "Mom, I didn’t mean to. Please don’t make me leave..."
Standing by the door, Chen Ying couldn’t bear to watch anymore. She walked in and pulled Meng Shuyan into her arms, glaring at Tian Sangsang as she said, "You’re yelling at your own son because of someone else’s child. Tian Sangsang, you’ve lost your mind! Are you trying to rush into being someone’s stepmother now? What, you don’t want your own son anymore?"
Tian Sangsang said nothing, only cast a disappointed glance at Meng Shuyan before walking out to tend to the store.
Standing there, Tian Sangsang wiped away her tears. It was nothing—she was just heartbroken. Even though she wasn’t his biological mother, she had always treated Meng Shuyan as her own son. But Meng Shuyan always cared so much about his father, a man he’d never even met. Did all her efforts mean nothing? Could Jiang Jinghuai’s mere shadow outweigh everything she had done?
She was jealous. She felt no need to hide it.
At dinner, Meng Shuyan kept pouting, stealing timid glances at her, but Tian Sangsang pretended not to notice. Later, as bedtime approached, he stood in the corner, his small figure hunched, his pale, delicate face flushed, his red-rimmed eyes casting quick, furtive glances upward before lowering again.
Tian Sangsang’s eyes grew damp, her resolve softened. She walked over to him and gently said, "Yanyan."
