Chapter 987: Chapter 983: Finally Meeting

Until Huo Sining sat on the high-speed train heading to Jin City, she still felt somewhat disturbed.

Zhou Shitao hadn’t intended for Huo Sining and the others to know about these things, but given the circumstances, Zhou Shitao realized he couldn’t keep the matter hidden, so he simply laid everything out, explaining it all.

Huo Sining’s ears seemed to still echo with Zhou Shitao’s words: The doctor said that Qin Lianshan’s organs are deteriorating, and the cancer cells have spread severely. Chemotherapy is the best option, but whether it can effectively control the further spread of the cancer cells is unknown. He is also old, and may not be able to withstand chemotherapy, but if he doesn’t undergo it and only receives conservative treatment, there’s no guarantee he can hold out until next spring.

Huo Sining felt her heart heavy, wanting to call Ouyang Jun and Qin Tian, yet she knew well why Qin Lianshan hid his illness; he didn’t want the younger generation to worry about him. Besides causing them distress, telling Ouyang Jun and Qin Tian would be futile; there isn’t a definitive cure for cancer domestically or abroad, so even if she told them, there wouldn’t be anything Ouyang Jun and Qin Tian could do.

Huo Sining couldn’t help but sigh deeply, trying to breathe out all the suppressed gloom inside her. Learning that Qin Lianshan was critically ill, she became more determined in her thinking, despite it being presumptuous, she wanted to take Madam Feng to Dongyang.

The wish to care for one’s parents while they are still around is poignant, and rather than regretting when Madam Feng is critically ill or passes away, it’s better to resolve the knot and misunderstanding between Feng Jinglin and her right now while she is alive, allowing them to reunite and let Madam Feng peacefully enjoy her old age.

All the way, Madam Feng remained very quiet. After boarding the plane in S City, it flew directly to Dongyang in the afternoon. Before boarding, Huo Sining called Feng Jinglin, informing him of the flight and timing, and asked if he was available.

Feng Jinglin immediately stated he was on vacation and could drive to the airport.

Huo Sining of course knew why Feng Jinglin was so anxious and earnest; it was to find out sooner about Madam Feng’s situation from her. These two clearly cared for each other, missing each other deeply, yet remained stuck, neither willing to take the first step, causing distress.

Huo Sining now felt a little anticipation. She wanted to know how the always composed, gentlemanly lawyer Feng Jinglin would react a few hours later when she reappeared in front of him with Madam Feng.

It wasn’t until they got off the plane that Madam Feng’s face finally showed a tense expression. Her face tightened as she waved at Huo Sining, seemingly afraid to step out from her seat.

Huo Sining understood Madam Feng’s feelings. She crouched down, wrote a few words in her sketchbook: Mr. Feng is waiting for you at the airport.

Seeing these words, Madam Feng suddenly calmed down. She looked up at Huo Sining, who nodded, her eyes encouraging as she gazed at her, and reached out to tightly hold her hand, as if to lend her strength.

The old lady’s restless mood finally settled, and she slowly stood up, following Huo Sining, allowing her to lead them outside.

As they walked through the security exit, the arrival passage was crowded with people waiting, but Huo Sining immediately spotted Feng Jinglin, impeccably dressed in a suit among the crowd. Feng Jinglin quickly noticed Huo Sining as well and stretched out his hand to signal to her, but upon seeing the person Huo Sining was leading, his raised hand suddenly froze, and the smile on his face instantly solidified.

Feng Jinglin was stunned at the arrival gate, looking at the woman standing wide-eyed inside the security exit, his entire body stiffened, his eyes suddenly reddened, and those seven or eight-year-old terms of endearment seemed about to escape his lips, yet his mouth opened several times in vain, realizing he couldn’t make a sound.

Mom, a word lost to him for seven years, eager to know her news, yearning deeply, yet when she stood truly before him, Feng Jinglin realized at this moment he was afraid of familial closeness.

He was desperately wanting to call her, but feared that once he spoke, this dream would awaken, the person before him would vanish, so he stood there dumbly, letting tears flow down his face.

Until a frail body tremblingly embraced him, dry hands gently caressed his hair and cheeks, until the woman before him also cried her eyes out, until everything was tangible, Feng Jinglin realized this was no dream. This familiar action was what his mother most often did when he was aggrieved in his childhood, their most intimate form of emotional exchange.

This gesture caused the grievances and pangs Feng Jinglin had suppressed for years to instantly flood out; he stretched out and tightly embraced his frail mother, crying loudly.

It wasn’t until most of the crowd had left the arrival area that Feng Jinglin regained control of his emotions. He held onto Madam Feng’s hand tightly, unwilling to let go, took the suitcase from Huo Sining’s hand with his other hand, and said, "Let’s go."

Huo Sining nodded and followed Feng Jinglin to the parking lot. Feng Jinglin kept chatting on the way, asking about Madam Feng’s recent condition while recounting his experiences in Dongyang these past few years. Madam Feng listened with a smile, occasionally nodding but remained silent throughout.

Feng Jinglin, still immersed in the excitement of seeing his mother, failed to notice Madam Feng’s anomaly.

Huo Sining also kept quiet. She didn’t know if, by revealing Madam Feng’s hearing loss and inability to speak, Feng Jinglin would break down, and now with Feng Jinglin clearly reveling in joy, she was reluctant to say it, fearing it might trigger him.

The car drove all the way to a residential area where Feng Jinglin owned a standalone villa in Shinjuku District. Normally, he rarely stayed there, but with Madam Feng coming over now, he couldn’t bring her to his bachelor apartment, so he drove directly to the villa.

Though real estate in Shinjuku District is not cheap, Feng Jinglin’s villa isn’t very large, but it has several rooms across its two levels, sufficient for just Madam Feng and Feng Jinglin to live in.

When Madam Feng entered the house, she looked around with curious admiration. After she went upstairs, Feng Jinglin’s smile began to fade as he turned to look at Huo Sining, his eyes full of tension and urgency: "What’s going on, is she..."
