Chapter 709: The Invasion Begins ( 709 )

Armand Region – Armand Border Wall

The tension in the air snapped like a wire under strain.

Suddenly, every single one of Javier’s inventions.

The anti-air mana guns, the mana cannons, and rows upon rows of Mithril Puppet Knights stationed along the Armand border, lit up in synchronized alert.

A piercing whirr filled the air as turrets rotated, barrels rose, and magical engines flared to life.

Warning runes blinked red.

A low hum of mana surged through the defenses, like the calm before a storm.

The elite guards stationed along the border instantly noticed the shift.

Panic didn’t spread—but discipline did.

The squad leader narrowed his eyes. "Everyone!! Full alert!!"

Swords were drawn, shields raised.

Even the normally silent Mithril Puppet Knights took a step forward.

"You!" the leader barked at a young soldier nearby.

"Y-Yes, sir?!"

"Run to the command post! Alert the Armand Main Manor and Gaze City Command Post—NOW!"

The soldier gulped and bolted, sprinting down the stairs and through the corridor beneath the fortified wall.

The squad leader turned back, eyes sharp.

"Formation ready! Watch the skies and the far field, we don’t know what triggered it, but if it’s enough to wake those things..."

He glanced at the humming mana cannons that hadn’t activated recently.

"...then this isn’t just some stray monster."

Suddenly...

A massive ball of dark fire tore across the sky,

screaming like a meteor from the heavens.

One of the guards looked up.

"What the—?"

From the distant horizon, more appeared.

Thousands of dark fireballs, all raining toward the Armand Border Wall like a divine punishment.

At that moment—

[WARNING: ABNORMAL INCOMING ATTACK DETECTED.]

Every single anti-air mana gun whirled to life.

Barrels glowed.

Mana surged.

The sky lit up with counter-fire.

A synchronized burst from every gun, shooting in rapid succession.

The entire wall shook from the recoil as thousands of rounds met the incoming threat midair, explosions cracking like thunder across the sky.

Still, not all were intercepted.

Several slipped through.

Rows of Mithril Puppet Knights marched forward like machines,

massive tower shields snapping into place.

They pushed the stunned Armand soldiers back, standing as the final wall.

Fireballs exploded against the shield line, sending shockwaves down the wall.

But the puppet shields held.

Not a crack.

Not a dent.

[EMERGENCY DEFENSIVE MODE: ENGAGING BARRIER PROTOCOL.]

A hum echoed across the fortress wall as shimmering blue hexagonal barriers flickered to life, covering the upper wall like a dome.

[ALL ARMAND GUARDS, EVACUATE WALL IMMEDIATELY.]

"Everyone down!!" the squad leader roared. "GET OFF THE WALL!!"

Soldiers scrambled down the inner stairs while the puppet knights locked position.

Then—another click.

[WEAPON MODULE SWITCH: AUTHORIZED.]

[TRANSITIONING TO RANGED RESPONSE MODE.]

Small hatches slid open on the puppet knights’ sides,

mana rifles sliding out and locking into their metallic hands.

Their swords were holstered at their waists with mechanical precision.

All armed.

All aiming.

The ground shook. The air burned.

The Captain of the Border Wall Unit stepped forward, his voice booming through the chaos.

"EVERYONE, ON POSITION!!"

He pointed urgently toward the signal tower.

"ALERT THE HIGH TOWER! I WANT SUPPORT FIRE ON THOSE COORDINATES—NOW!!"

Behind him, horns blared.

Sirens echoed through the camp.

"RAISE SHIELDS!!"

Lines of Armand soldiers snapped into formation, shimmering mana barriers flickering to life in layered defenses.

"TELL THE PRIESTS AND HIGH PRIESTS—HEALER UNIT, FULL STANDBY!!"

A squad of robed figures nodded in unison and moved into position at the rear, already chanting.

"PEKKO UNITS!!"

He spun around to the cavalry.

"BREAK INTO SQUADS OF TWENTY!! ENSURE THE CITIZENS’ SAFETY!!"

"YES SIR!!"

Over 2,000 Pekko Riders erupted into motion, splitting into coordinated squads like a well-oiled machine. Each team was composed of:

– Healer

– Priest

– Magic Crossbow User

– Knight

– Paladin

– Swordsman

– Heavy Tank with a Mithril Tower Shield

Dust swirled.

Wheels clattered.

Mana engines roared.

"GO! GO! GO!!"

The Pekko legs thundered against the ground as the squads charged toward nearby towns and roads—clearing evacuation routes and sweeping for enemies with precision and speed.

Meanwhile, in the Armand Estate.

A faint click echoed across the sky.

The anti-air mana missile hatch on the estate’s highest tower opened silently, glowing runes activating around it.

Simultaneously, dozens of armed silhouettes shimmered into view across the courtyard, rooftops, and treetops. Javier’s Special Operation Units, previously invisible, now revealed themselves, each armed with mana rifles, silently scanning and taking position around the estate.

From the manor balcony, Garius watched their coordinated movements calmly, arms behind his back.

He nodded slightly.

"Just as I expected... he hid them here."

He glanced to his side.

"Alf?"

The butler stepped forward and bowed slightly.

"Yes, my lord?"

"Where are our own shadow and special ops?"

"Already on full alert, my lord. I gave the order the moment the estate defenses activated."

"Erinnette?" Garius turned.

The head maid straightened, her voice cold and precise.

"Our elite battle maid corps and the special maid strike team have already deployed. They’ve sealed all internal paths, activated close-range mana traps, and are standing by for further instructions."

Garius’s eyes narrowed slightly, observing Javier’s hidden units now standing in perfect formation—like silent statues.

"Hmph... So Javier’s ’ghost unit’ was always stationed here... even under our noses."

Alf responded,

"We sensed them, my lord. The silent mana wave from their cloaking pattern—barely noticeable. The young master clearly ensured no blind spots remained."

Erinnette added with a small, amused smirk,

"He didn’t hide them from us. He just never told us. Typical of the young master."

Garius chuckled softly, more impressed than annoyed.

"Even from within his own home... he treats every place like a battlefield."

An officer from the inner command post burst through the grand doors of the manor, nearly tripping over his own boots.

"My lord! My lord! Emergency!"

Garius, standing near the estate balcony, turned with that same composed expression.

"Yes?"

The officer halted and caught his breath. "A message from the border post! Unknown attack incoming! Currently being intercepted by the young master’s inventions... but the barrage isn’t stopping!"

Garius’s expression didn’t change.

"Hmm... So it’s begun."

He closed his eyes briefly.

"Edmund is moving... sending his special units and starting an all-out war, is he?"

The officer tensed. "What shall we do, my lord?!"

Without hesitation, Garius replied.

"Tell General Hesbeirn to proceed as per the emergency war briefing. Prioritize the evacuation of all civilians near the border. Move them to the inner towns immediately."
