Chapter 691: Dark Cube of Doom ( 691 )
Javier grinned, both blades out as he effortlessly parried the flurry of coordinated attacks from all sides. Sparks flew. Dust scattered.
He leaned slightly to the side, avoiding a giant axe swing by mere inches, then spun and kicked First’s incoming blade away.
“Tch—! Annoying brat!” First growled.
“Come on, guys! Aren’t you supposed to be Seventh?” Javier said while deflecting a spear thrust from Sixth.
“You know… that elite group that helped beat King Gurdan? Hunted Celestials? Feared across the continent?” He leaned in mid-parry, smiling mockingly.
“And now you’re here… flailing around like background extras.”
“YOU’RE GOING TO DIE, BRAT!!!”
Seventh exploded in rage, slamming both palms to the ground.
A dark aura blasted out in all directions, the force shaking trees, tearing shallow craters across the grass, and kicking up a gust that whipped across the battlefield.
Liana and Gloria skirt fluttered.
Javier paused mid-swing.
He turned his head slowly.
Then smirked.
“Woooohooooo~! White and black! Thanks for the feast!”
“Young master…” Liana sighed, palm firmly against her face.
“Ara~” Gloria gently covered her lips, cheeks tinged slightly pink.
Seventh twitched.
“Y-YOU DAMN BRAT!! TAKE THIS!!”
A dark infernal spike launched from Seventh’s hand, tearing through the air like a black lightning bolt.
Javier casually tilted his head.
The spike flew past and exploded behind him.
He didn’t even flinch.
“Missed,” Javier said, shrugging.
“You little…!!”
“Ahahahaha!!!”
Javier launched himself into the air with a twist, dodging Seventh’s furious slash like it was child’s play.
“Too slow!” he grinned, landing gracefully on one palm, spinning once in the air, and springing back up just as Second and Third launched synchronized attacks from both sides.
He flipped over them mid-air, laughing again.
“Man! This is a good workout!” Javier said mid-spin, landing lightly on one foot. “You guys ever thought of doing this for cardio? Real fun, really!”
First lunged at him again.
Javier side-stepped lazily, like he was dodging a slow-flying butterfly.
“Yaaawn…” he opened his mouth wide, stretching his arms like someone who just woke from a nap.
“You brat!!” First roared.
Not far away, Buddy scratched at the dirt with one talon, aggressively digging like he was hunting for a worm.
Javier glanced sideways at him.
Then back at the so-called ‘elite’ squad still trying to land a hit on him.
“See?” Javier jabbed a thumb toward his Pekko. “Even Buddy’s moves are more interesting than yours.”
Cuquawked?
Buddy blinked, then continue scratching the ground.
Javier caught Fourth’s heavy punch mid-air with his palm.
He grinned.
“Nice breeze~”
“ARGHHHHH!!!”
Fourth screamed, his knees buckling as Javier’s calm fingers tightened around his fist.
Veins bulged from Fourth’s forehead. His face twisted in agony.
“Uuuu~ is it hurting?” Javier said sweetly, tilting his head with mock concern. “But aren’t you all ‘modified specimens’? Enhanced muscles, special bones, peak physical form… blah blah whatever.”
“Guess you’re still squishy inside.” Javier smiled.
“LET GO OF HIM!!!”
The rest of the Seventh Unit. First, Second, Third, Fifth, and Sixth rushed toward him in a blur.
Javier look at them and sigh.
“Alright, you lot. Time to stop flailing.”
His foot tapped the ground once.
[Skill Activate: Personal Gravity Field]
A faint ripple spread out beneath his feet.
All six of them stopped. Mid-air. Mid-step. Mid-punch.
Their bodies slammed downward as if invisible chains yanked them by the spine.
“Oho~? Can’t move?” Javier’s voice was a gentle mockery, his tone almost sweet. “What happened to all that speed? That pride? That ‘elite among elite’ nonsense?”
He casually tossed Fourth aside like trash, letting him thud onto the grass, groaning.
“Let me guess,” Javier raised a finger, “your body enhancements didn’t come with gravity resistance. Too bad~”
Javier looked down at the immobilized Seventh Unit, all of them pinned hard to the ground under the crushing weight of his gravity field.
He sighed.
“You know, the Armand Region… despite being strong… has never once oppressed another noble region. We’ve never started a war. We’ve never stolen land. And yet…” He raised an eyebrow, scanning their faces. “You all treat us like the enemy.”
He paced slowly, the tip of one sword dragging against the ground with a low sound.
“The so-called noble coalition tried. They sent sanctions. Failed. Then they threw more than a hundred thousand troops at us, thinking they could erase our name from the map.” Javier smirked faintly. “They lost.”
He crouched slightly, leaning close to Seventh, who was still straining under the gravity pressure.
“And now you think… sending a thousand wyvern units… spellcasters, archers raining down from above… is enough to cripple Armand Region?”
Javier tilted his head, smiling playfully.
“Have you… seen how wyverns look when they’re roasted in mid-air?”
He chuckled. “Heh. It’s quite the sight.”
None of them could answer, their limbs shaking under the crushing force.
Javier’s eyes gleamed with boredom.
“Tell you what. Do you… want to see the weapon I used for that?” He smiled.
No one answered, so he stood up straight, rolling his shoulders.
“Man… I’m getting bored.”
He reached into his magic storage and pulled out something new.
A cube.
But unlike the white cube used to seal Celestial essence… this one was pitch black. A dark, ominous glow pulsed within its smooth edges.
“Since I don’t have time, or the mood to kill you all one by one…” Javier tossed the cube lazily.
It hovered mid-air, floating perfectly in the center of the battlefield. The pressure instantly doubled, locking the Seventh Unit’s bodies into the ground.
He casually walked toward Buddy, who was still scratching the ground with a clueless squawked.
“Oh, right. One more thing.”
He reached into his pocket and took out a small timer mana bomb, its runes softly ticking.
He set the timer, then walked back and placed it directly between the immobilized assassins.
“Alright, Seventh…” Javier said, giving them a lazy two-fingered salute. “Good luck surviving this.”
Without another word, he mounted Buddy, ready to ride away.
After they had traveled a good distance, far enough that the pinned assassins were well out of sight. Javier finally let out a long, lazy sigh. Buddy continued trotting calmly, while Liana and Gloria followed silently on their own Pekko mounts.
A distant explosion erupted behind them. A towering plume of smoke and flame rose into the air like a pillar of fury, sending shockwaves through the forest. Birds scattered. The wind carried the faint echo of screaming and crumbling earth.
Liana frowned, slightly tightening her grip on her reins.
“Young master… are you really sure you’re just going to leave them like that?” she asked gently, her expression calm but serious.
“What if they survive… and go on to hurt innocent people again?”
