Chapter 917: Why Can a Female Celebrity Eat So Much!

Chapter 917: Chapter 917: Why Can a Female Celebrity Eat So Much!

Mary Scott and Alfred Scott returned to the apartment complex at ten o’clock.

While Lica Garden couldn’t compare to the picturesque scenery and comprehensive facilities of Rose Valley, it was still clean and tidy enough, and both Mary and Alfred were comfortable living there.

The two barely rested through the night. Alfred bought some breakfast from a shop downstairs and handed it to Mary. "Sis, eat something, please."

Mary shook her head, but Alfred stubbornly kept holding out the breakfast to her.

Unable to refuse, Mary reluctantly took it, though she still had no appetite. She barely managed a few bites before setting it down and pulling out the hydrogen peroxide from the medical kit. "Sit down. I’ll treat your injuries."

Alfred shook his head. "Sis, I’m fine. That bastard got it much worse. Don’t worry about me. You should go get some sleep."

Mary, hearing this, thought about the injuries on David Locke’s face. Her eyes darkened, and she fell silent.

Noticing his sister’s expression, Alfred asked hesitantly, "Sis, are you still unwilling to let him go?"

"There’s nothing about letting go or not. Us separating was always going to happen sooner or later," Mary said casually, though the bitterness in her eyes betrayed her true feelings.

Unsure of how to comfort her, Alfred hesitated for a moment. Mary waved her hand dismissively. "You should rest too."

Alfred stayed put. "Sis... don’t be too upset. It’s not worth it."

"Go on now." Mary forced a bitter smile and shooed him away.

"One more thing. About the online situation... Sis, have you figured out how to handle it? Do you need my help?" Alfred hadn’t forgotten yesterday’s news.

"Don’t worry. I can handle it myself. Now get out and go to sleep." This time, Mary directly interrupted him, her patience clearly worn thin.

Alfred pursed his lips. "Fine."

Once her younger brother had gone into his room, Mary finally remembered to pull out her phone. The moment she powered it on, it began vibrating incessantly. A flood of messages poured in all at once, taking a long time to settle down.

Mary opened her phone to see mostly missed call notifications and recommendations urging her to answer certain calls.

She skimmed through them, getting some sense of the situation, before opening the trending topics list. The scandal about her cheating had dwindled somewhat in intensity, but it still lingered on the rankings, alongside a new entry: #DirectorLockeLateNightDrinking#.

Mary tapped on it and browsed for a while. It was full of scathing comments, as nasty as they could get.

Meanwhile, posts about David Locke were drenched in sympathy, especially regarding the accusation of him being a cuckold.

Since more than ten hours had passed since the story broke and she, as the subject, had yet to respond, netizens took her silence as tacit acknowledgment. Twitter’s comment section was chaotic with vilification. Director Baker had responded by issuing a lawyer’s letter—a concise, straightforward action—but it was useless. All the comments were condemning him as an adulterer.

Guilt washed over Mary as she recalled a message she’d seen earlier—a text from Simon Baker asking her to call back as soon as possible to plan a way to clear her name.

After some hesitation, Mary dialed his number.

...

A Japanese restaurant.

Charlotte Leigh pushed open the private room door and entered. Duke Blue was already waiting inside.

She removed her sunglasses, scarf, and mask, then slipped off her coat to reveal her curvaceous figure before sitting directly next to Duke Blue.

Without ceremony, Duke pulled her into an embrace and smirked. "Are you satisfied?"

"Mm, the results exceeded expectations." Charlotte, in a good mood, didn’t mind Duke’s wandering hands.

Charlotte had anticipated this outcome when she enlisted promotional accounts to spread the news, but seeing Mary Scott getting trashed across the entire internet gave her immense satisfaction.

Unlike past petty skirmishes, Mary’s cheating scandal was serious and damning—an irrefutable "hammer blow" that couldn’t be explained away. At this point, almost everyone online knew Mary Scott as the cheating wife who betrayed her husband.

Though attitudes in the country had grown more open-minded over the years, a conservative streak still persisted. Mary’s verified affair crushed her reputation with no hope for redemption. Her acting career was essentially over.

The thought of Mary, who had been a thorn in her side for years, finally getting completely ousted from the entertainment industry filled Charlotte with indescribable joy. Plus, David’s drunken breakdown at April Sky last night had been captured and circulated, which clearly showed how upset he was. Charlotte speculated that their relationship had already fallen apart; otherwise, why hadn’t Mary come forward to clarify? Nor had David made any moves.

What did this indicate? That David Locke had completely given up on Mary Scott!

Reflecting on all this, Charlotte’s mood soared higher. Even Duke Blue seemed more pleasing to her eyes now. It was all thanks to Duke’s cleverness in obtaining photographic evidence of Mary’s affair; otherwise, she’d have had to come up with other ways to ruin her.

"Don’t worry. This time she’s done for. My sources confirm that she moved out of David Locke’s villa early this morning, left with nothing, and was essentially kicked to the curb," Duke said gleefully.

Charlotte raised a brow. "Are you sure?"

"100% certain," Duke boasted confidently.

Charlotte’s happiness grew, and she half-lounged against Duke’s side. "This time, it’s all thanks to you. Our precious Duke is amazing!"

Delighted by the beauty’s praise, Duke grabbed Charlotte’s hand and grinned. "So, how does Miss Leigh plan to reward me for my efforts?"

"You’re such a rogue," Charlotte cooed mockingly, lightly slapping his hand and letting out a theatrical laugh. Her augmented chest suggestively pressed against Duke. "Don’t worry, you’ll get your due reward."

Satisfied, Duke began to let his hands wander even more freely. "Miss Leigh, let’s team up as a CP. Recently, plenty of people in the entertainment circle have cashed in on the couple craze. Maybe we could ride that wave too?"

A flicker of impatience flashed in Charlotte’s eyes as she inwardly sneered. Him? In his dreams. Outwardly, though, her expression turned coquettish and aggrieved. "I’d love that, but you know how Jocelyn Spencer is—she keeps tight reins on me and would never agree to it. But I can promise you a role in Director Penn’s film. As the male lead, no less."

Duke felt a slight pang of disappointment. Director Penn’s film was decent, but his reputation had taken a hit after repeated failures over the past couple of years—the last one had been so bad it was mocked for its unbearable costume designs. Still, Duke, being a singer-dancer with little formal training in acting, had limited opportunities. Getting connected with Charlotte’s resources and landing this role was definitely a big break. If Director Penn managed to pull off a solid performance this time, Duke might just explode in popularity.

With this in mind, Duke stopped pressing the issue and focused his attention on enjoying Charlotte’s flirtations. Soon, the private room was filled with her soft, breathy laughter. Luckily, the soundproofing was excellent, or else outsiders might wonder if a steamy drama was playing out inside!

After eating, the two discussed their plans to further sabotage Mary Scott’s reputation before reluctantly parting ways.

Not long after they left, Mary, who had been working with Simon Baker on dealing with the scandal, noticed that several promotional accounts were digging up old dirt on her, particularly incidents from two years ago when she had been framed by Charlotte Leigh.

The culprit behind this resurgence was obvious enough.

"Director Baker, I’m sorry. My troubles are dragging you down," Mary said sincerely. Simon Baker was just an ordinary director; if the scandal wasn’t handled well, it could ruin his future prospects in the industry.

"Don’t be silly. It’s my fault for not planning thoroughly. I only issued a lawyer’s letter without directly addressing the issue because I couldn’t get hold of you earlier and didn’t know your plan..." Simon paused, thinking about the rumors online regarding Mary and David Locke. Concerned, he asked, "Are you two okay?"

Mary was struck by Simon’s use of "you two" rather than "you," leaving a sour taste in her heart. She thought back to David’s cruel words, each one more heartbreaking than the last, and sighed lightly. "We’re fine. Director Baker, let’s focus on discussing the PR strategy."

She knew she couldn’t depend on anyone else—this matter had to be resolved by herself.

"Alright." Simon didn’t waste time on pleasantries. He listened as Mary laid out her plan, and when she had finished, Simon recalled that Mary had recorded a video that night. Suddenly, everything clicked. "That’s perfect. Having a video is better than anything. You post the video to clear things up, and I’ll reach out to the program team. I bet they have photos from that evening as well."

Mary agreed. "Okay, we’ll divide and conquer."

After hanging up, Mary found the video she had recorded in Simon’s room and began preparing the content for clarification. Just then, her phone vibrated again.

It was Mia Anderson calling, and Mary picked up.

"Mary, you finally turned your phone on!" Mia’s voice brimmed with emotion, as if she might burst into tears of relief.

Mary felt a bit guilty. Last night, David’s reaction had left her emotionally shattered, leaving her no energy to worry about anything else. "I’m sorry, Mia, for worrying you."

"Oh, come on. No need for apologies between us. As long as you’re okay. By the way, wow, Director Locke is such a hero!" Mia sounded absolutely ecstatic.

Mary was mystified. "What did he do?"

"What? You don’t know?" Mia was momentarily taken aback, suspicion flickering in her mind.

Mary pursed her lips. "What’s he done now?"

"Well, it seems I might have misunderstood, but isn’t he the one who took down the trending rumor about you? Not to mention he just issued a lawyer’s letter declaring that he’ll sue every promotional account defaming you. How cool is that?!" Mia sounded like she was practically bouncing from excitement; she had initially worried that David might hold grudges against Mary.

"Really?" Mary hadn’t expected David to take such actions, and the emotion that welled up inside her was a complicated mixture of gratitude and sadness.

"Mary, are you alright?" Mia finally sensed that something wasn’t right with Mary’s mood.

Mary quickly collected herself. "I’m fine. I was just preparing a clarification response. By the way, could you grab a screenshot of that Facebook Circle post from the barbeque night and share it later for me?"

"Sure thing! Finally ready to hit back at those lying scumbags, huh? Their faces are gonna get smashed!" Mia fumed.

Mary chuckled softly. "I wouldn’t celebrate too soon. If my guess is right, the person who recorded me that evening was likely Duke Blue, and the one stirring up trouble now is Charlotte Leigh. They’re connected and not likely to back down easily."

"What trashy hypocrites!" Mia responded angrily, utterly furious. She often wondered whether Charlotte’s heart was simply too small to let go of grudges—how else could she hold on to petty resentments from years ago and go out of her way to persecute Mary endlessly?

Mary laughed lightly. "Alright, let’s focus on the task at hand."

After ending the call, Mary continued editing her Twitter post and soon published her clarification statement. "Clearly, hoarding food isn’t a good look. I promise I’ll never casually threaten the program team over stolen snacks again!"

Along with this statement, Mary tagged Simon Baker and the program team while attaching the video.

More than ten hours had passed since the scandal broke. Mary had been bombarded with ridicule and insults, and countless people were watching her social media, waiting for her to make any excuses just so they could launch a fresh attack. When her update finally dropped, many swooped in immediately without even opening the video, ready to lambast her for "lying" and demand she leave the entertainment world.

Others, however, were slightly more level-headed and clicked the video out of curiosity. In the footage, several men were gathered around eating barbeque. The table was littered with peanuts, edamame, and beer. Was this a dinner gathering? What did it have to do with Mary supposedly cheating with Simon Baker?

Soon, Mary’s voice rang out from the video. "Make your choice: either treat me to food, or I’ll leak this footage to everyone else!"

One of the men eating barbeque looked genuinely shocked and muttered, "Since when are we negotiating with a rogue?"

Next, Simon’s voice cut in. "Alright, hand the stuff over to Perkin. Sit down and enjoy some grilled fish."

Merry laughter then erupted, and Mary’s cheerful "Thanks!" capped off the clip before it abruptly ended.

Those who saw the video froze. So there had been no cheating, no affair—just Mary jokingly pressuring the crew into sharing their food during a delivery? A complete misunderstanding of epic proportions?

Even Mary’s staunch critics began quietly saying, "Maybe you should watch the video before jumping in to criticize?"

Others still refused to believe, insisting the video didn’t capture clear faces or timestamps—claiming it was likely fabricated for PR damage control.

But as Mary’s Twitter post gained traction, Simon Baker retweeted her. "I didn’t realize being threatened and defamed would be my fate today. Miss Scott, please help explain this to Director Locke. My dreams of filmmaking have barely begun—I’d hate for them to end so soon!"

He attached a picture of himself wearing an apron in the kitchen, busy cooking barbeque.

Soon after, several staff members from the program’s dinner that night started sharing screenshots from their personal Facebook Circles. Max humorously posted his screenshot, admitting, "I added Mr. Foster on Facebook but secretly blocked him just to avoid embarrassment. Guess what? She not only snagged more snacks than three grown men combined but even took leftovers with her!"

Assistant Director Ernest offered a funny comment under Max’s post, sharing the skewers Mary had left behind: there weren’t just thirty—more like twenty-something. Mary finally appeared in one photo, a side profile that showcased her breathtaking beauty. Ernest truly deserved accolades for his photographic mastery.

Another staff member quietly uploaded a picture of Mary holding a bag of barbeque, explaining, "Didn’t mean to snap this one. Wanted to show my girlfriend how even a top-tier celebrity crushes it on barbeque. She eats like a champ!"

The staff members’ series of posts threw everyone into fits of laughter. Initially, the masses had been set on criticizing Mary. But faced with this wave of clarifications, they couldn’t help but find humor in the ridiculousness of her conduct. Especially those photos—Mary’s outstanding beauty was captivating, but her passion for barbeque was equally fascinating.

Those in disbelief started murmuring, "As a guy, the most I can eat is twenty skewers tops. Looking at Director Locke’s skewers, each one counts for two normal-sized ones, right?"

"Totally agree. Just rotated my phone 360 degrees and reviewed carefully—it’s official: this female celebrity devoured twenty-eight premium skewers. Considering normal portions, that’s fifty-six servings!"

"Now I get why anyone would be annoyed. I’d definitely be bothered too!"

"Exactly. What’s a celebrity when matched against barbeque?"

"Double thumbs-up!"

Before long, the comment thread spiraled into a lighthearted debate about why a female celebrity could eat so much food!

Mary, seeing all this, was both amused and slightly exasperated. She replied with one line: "What now? My secret’s out—I eat like a beast!"
