Chapter 451 - 453: The Look of Trash

Chapter 451: Chapter 453: The Look of Trash

Shao He took out the fine thread from Shao Mingyang’s fingernails. Suddenly, the voice of a servant boy came from outside, and the three of them hurriedly hid.

The door was pushed open, and two shivering servant boys looked around the room.

"I told you there’s nobody here, how could there possibly be anyone? Even if there was, it’s not necessarily a person."

As the servant boy spoke, his gaze fell on the coffin, and he couldn’t help shivering from a chill.

Another servant boy scratched his head, "Could it really have been a mistake?"

"Let’s go, let’s go."

After closing the door again, the hiding trio leapt down from the rafters.

"Let’s get out of here."

Pei Hanze was the first to leave through the window, followed closely by Shao He, and Ah Mo brought up the rear.

After the three left the Shao Residence, Pei Hanze stroked his chin, "I checked his body just now. Apart from the strangulation marks on his neck and the stab wound on his chest, there were no other injuries."

Shao He continued with the analysis, "That means either the person knew Shao Mingyang, or they were talking, and he was stabbed in the chest unexpectedly."

She then took out the embroidered thread from the fingernail and observed it carefully.

"This gold silk thread is extremely rare. It doesn’t seem like something ordinary families would use." Ah Mo leaned in for a closer look, his brows slightly furrowing.

"Right, this gold silk thread is very rare. This may be a clue for us."

Shao He secured the gold thread and turned to Ah Mo, "Can you mobilize the Hidden Guards of your master’s household?"

Ah Mo nodded.

Hearing this, Pei Hanze asked, "What do you plan to do with the Hidden Guard?"

Shao He smiled slyly, "Naturally, to draw out those lurking in the shadows!"

A cunning smile appeared on the corner of her mouth.

In the still of the night, only a few pedestrians remained on the streets, and occasionally a carriage would race by, leaving dust swirling in its wake.

In the prison cell, torches flickered fitfully. Pei Huaian leaned against the corner, his knees bent, his hands resting on top, eyes fixed on the outside of the cell.

"I didn’t expect fifth brother to be so composed."

Pei Chengye appeared in the cell, a smug smile playing on his lips.

Even if he was loved by the Emperor, what did it matter? He was still in this prison cell now.

Pei Huaian, faced with his mocking tone, responded calmly, "It’s rare that second brother has the heart to visit me."

"Yes, I came to see how wretched fifth brother looks now, it’s truly gratifying to see!"

Pei Chengye laughed heartily, as if he had already foreseen the miserable days ahead for him.

Listening to his uninhibited laughter, Pei Huaian’s expression grew darker, his fist at his side tightening and releasing, releasing and tightening.

He couldn’t hit him... he couldn’t move against him in any way.

"It’s good second brother is happy, just don’t celebrate too early."

"You still think you have a chance to turn the tables?" Pei Chengye sneered, "With your current useless state, what waves could you possibly make?"

"Since second brother knows I’m ’useless’, why not hurry out and avoid staining your noble personage?"

Pei Chengye huffed, waved his hand, and had Zhao Yuanjiang open the prison door.

He stepped over to Pei Huaian, looking down at him from his greater height.

"You caused my mother to be deposed, you made me the laughingstock of everyone. Today’s predicament is all your own doing, blame no one else."

Pei Huaian ignored him, remaining silent.

Pei Chengye, seeing his indifferent, thick-skinned demeanor, gnashed his teeth, "I want to see just how long you can last."

Pei Huaian replied with a smile that was not a smile, "Does second brother still remember who it was that had me thrown into the Mass Burial Mound back then?"

Pei Chengye’s eyes snapped up, glaring at him with venomous hate, "What do you mean by that?"

"My meaning is straightforward, if I die, second brother certainly won’t live past tonight."

Pei Chengye was momentarily stunned, then burst into fury, "Good, very good, you dare threaten me!"

He reached out and grabbed Pei Huaian’s collar, growling fiercely, "Do you believe I could kill you right now?"

Pei Huaian met his furious gaze fearlessly, speaking coolly, "If you kill me, you’ll surely be joining me in death."

"You!"

Choked up, Pei Chengye then flung his clothes aside and stormed towards the door.

Seeing this, Zhao Yuanjiang quickly asked, "Second Prince, won’t you stay and watch a bit longer?"

"Watch what, it’s bad luck!"

He strode out of the prison, immediately entering his carriage, and departed.

Zhao Yuanjiang, somewhat puzzled by the Second Prince’s thoughts, glanced at the unflustered man, promptly ordered the prison door re-locked, and then turned to leave.

The prison guards sat together drinking, excitedly discussing Pei Huaian’s situation.

"Who would’ve thought, one day a Prince would end up in this cell."

"Indeed, and this Prince was quite favored by the Emperor. How unpredictable life is!"

"What favor is there in the royal family? It’s often said ’serving the Emperor is like accompanying a tiger.’"

The guards chatted with one another, not fearing their words might be overheard.

After all, those locked up here were either sentenced to death or awaiting execution.

Just then, a wisp of white smoke drifted in. The drunken guards didn’t notice.

The smoke thickened, and soon the guards were falling into a drowsy stupor.

Pei Huaian smelled something amiss, quickly covering his mouth and nose.

A dark figure emerged in the cell, looking indifferently at the unconscious guards before proceeding deeper into the prison.
