Reborn As Divine Doctor to Rule the World -
Chapter 428 - 430 Lingering Execution
Chapter 428: Chapter 430 Lingering Execution
Abbot Yuan Hui lowered his head and did not speak, his mind in complete disarray, unable to think at all.
"I’ll give you one more chance, do you speak the truth or resist? Abbot Yuan Hui must be clear about the consequences of resistance."
Master Yuan Hui clenched his fists, his knuckles turning ashen.
"Amitabha... Donor Pei, there must be some misunderstanding. I have never robbed or harmed a soul, let alone killed anyone. I have been wronged!"
Pei Huaian scoffed, "Abbot, save your breath. If I didn’t have evidence, would I casually hand you over to the Ministry of Justice, let alone take such a huge risk and imprison you?"
"Since you dared to reveal yourself to everyone, you should have expected that one day your true identity would be uncovered." A bloodthirsty coldness flashed in Pei Huaian’s eyes.
Abbot Yuan Hui’s face turned deathly pale, sweat beading on his forehead as he begged in a trembling voice, "Donor Pei, spare me this once, I promise never to set foot in Capital City again."
At this very moment, Abbot Yuan Hui was truly afraid, anxious beyond measure, wishing he could flee at once.
"You think you can run away?" Pei Huaian said mockingly.
"Donor Pei..." Abbot Yuan Hui wanted to say something more, but was cut off by Pei Huaian’s cold command, "Take him away!"
Instantly plunged into darkness, Abbot Yuan Hui felt as if he had fallen into an abyss, continuously tumbling down, down, never able to reach the shore.
The next day.
"Master, the investigation you ordered last night has been concluded," Ah Mo reported respectfully to Pei Huaian, who was sitting at the table browsing through files.
"Oh?" Pei Huaian put down the files and looked up at Ah Mo, signaling him to continue.
Ah Mo nodded and then recounted his findings to Pei Huaian without omission.
The more Pei Huaian listened, the uglier his expression became, and by the time he had finished reading the files, his face had turned steel blue, his gaze chilling.
"Heh..." Pei Huaian chuckled lowly, slowly pacing to the window, his expression complex as he stared out at the scenery.
"Ah Mo, what do you think I should do to punish Abbot Yuan Hui?" Pei Huaian asked with his back to the window, legs crossed in a relaxed, leisurely posture.
"How do you plan to deal with him?"
Pei Huaian turned and walked over to the desk, took up a brush and wrote down four characters: "Death by Lingchi."
"Wouldn’t that be improper? If it’s too severe, the people might deeply resent you for it," Ah Mo hesitated to say.
Pei Huaian scoffed and countered, "Improper? By tomorrow, the people of Capital City will know what kind of person their revered Abbot truly is. By then, they’d wish for Abbot Yuan Hui’s death to be more tragically than anyone else."
Indeed, as he predicted, the next day the true identity of Abbot Yuan Hui was exposed, and the people of Capital City went from shock to disappointment to rage.
The Emperor too hadn’t expected that Abbot Yuan Hui would turn out to be a bandit in hiding, so well-concealed that no one could see he was a man who had committed myriad evils.
Indifferent to all the praise, Pei Huaian left the court and hurried back to his residence.
When he pushed the door open and entered the room, he found the bed empty, a mix of surprise and panic in his heart,
He called out loudly, "Ah Mo, Ah Mo!"
However, the one who entered was not Ah Mo, but the woman he yearned for.
Seeing the smiling figure standing before him, he hesitantly stepped forward, then retreated.
He feared that everything before his eyes was but a dream.
"Is this a dream?"
Shao He tenderly walked over and tiptoed to leave a kiss on his lips.
"Do you still think it’s a dream now?"
Suddenly, Pei Huaian wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her fiercely, as if wanting to meld her into his very bones and blood.
"Mmm..." Shao He moaned softly as Pei Huaian took advantage of her slightly parted mouth.
After a long while, they parted.
Pei Huaian’s gaze burned as he watched Shao He, as if he could never get enough of her.
Shao He glared at him petulantly, "Don’t look at me with that expression."
"Which expression would you prefer?" Pei Huaian asked with a raised eyebrow, his tone suggestive.
Shao He’s cheeks flushed crimson, she bit her lip and retorted, "I’m not talking to you anymore."
Her bashful appearance was too much for Pei Huaian, and he chuckled, reaching out to stroke her soft hair affectionately, "It’s good that you’ve awakened."
Cradling her in his arms, Pei Huaian said, "I thought I would never see you again, but thankfully, you’re alright."
"Yes, thankfully I’m alright," Shao He said, embracing his slender waist, both basking in each other’s warmth.
After holding each other in silence for a moment, Pei Huaian let go, his intense gaze fixated on her.
"Never again do something so dangerous; just run if you encounter danger. That’s the best help you could give me."
Pei Huaian couldn’t bear to lose Shao He again; he didn’t want to experience that feeling of separation a second time.
"Alright," Shao He obediently agreed.
She understood his concerns, but even if given another chance, she would make the same choice.
To protect Pei Huaian, she would risk her life.
Pei Huaian pulled Shao He to sit down with him and began to discuss recent events, including the true identity of Abbot Yuan Hui.
"So you knew all along?"
"Correct, but the evidence at hand wasn’t enough to convict Yuan Hui, nor to convince the people. So I waited," he explained.
Only when both the testimony and the evidence were overwhelming could the people of Capital City be convinced and Yuan Hui be sentenced to death beyond any doubt.
