Chapter 419 - 421: That Person is Shao He

Chapter 419: Chapter 421: That Person is Shao He

Abbot Yuan Hui’s assertion grew ever more intense in Capital City; many speculated about its meaning.

Could "usurping the nest of another" be referring to the Fifth Prince?

In an instant, the ministers of the court began to feel uneasy, one after another petitioning the Emperor to appoint a Crown Prince.

After all, this concerned the future of the Great Yao Kingdom; many courtiers hoped to appoint the Second Prince as Crown Prince, while another faction believed the Second Prince lacked the virtue and was not fit to become the Crown Prince.

Suddenly, amidst ceaseless debates in the court, a senior official stood up to speak of the rumors swirling through Capital City.

"Your Majesty, this servant has heard that not long ago, Master Yuan Hui abruptly left the monastery and even made a prophecy that someone would ’usurp the nest of another,’ leading to the end of Great Yao’s dynasty."

As these words fell, the previously noisy court immediately quieted down, everyone turning their gaze to the official, thinking to themselves: He dared to be so bold as to bring the rumors of Capital City to the Emperor’s ears.

As expected, the Emperor’s expression darkened, and he said to the official, "Nonsense and slander against the Royal Family’s honor, you deserve to die ten thousand times over!"

Yet, the official showed no fear, instead kneeling and kowtowing, responding loudly, "Your humble servant speaks only the truth, if Your Majesty does not believe, you may send someone to investigate. This servant is solely concerned about our Great Yao’s people, unwilling to see them sink into war, thus speaking out daringly to prevent further calamity, Your Majesty!"

The Emperor, on hearing this, furrowed his brows more tightly and coldly asked, "Then tell me, what does this usurpation of the nest mean to you?"

"Your servant has heard, Mass Burial Mound, Mass Burial Mound, a place where a spirit child is born, and when the spirit child comes into being, the nation perishes."

"Nonsense," Pei Huaian scoffed coldly.

The minister glanced sideways at Pei Huaian, "How can the Fifth Prince not believe, when these are the very words of Abbot Yuan Hui himself?"

"His words are truth just because he said them? What is the use of our Father, the Emperor, then? We might as well rely solely on his prophecies for governing!"

"This, this..."

The minister suddenly found himself at a loss for words, unsure of what to say next.

"Father, we must not believe in such superstitious nonsense," Pei Huaian continued to persuade the Emperor.

As Pei Huaian finished speaking, the military officials started murmuring among themselves, finding his words reasonable.

"The words of the Fifth Prince are amiss!" a civil officer stepped forward and said, "Master Yuan Hui is a high monk rarely seen in this world, and whatever he says must be credible, right?"

"Yes, yes! Although Master Yuan Hui does not stay in the monastery, he is nonetheless considered an enlightened monk, and has indeed prophesied many dangers for the Great Yao Kingdom!"

After a round of agreement, Pei Huaian’s expression darkened.

"Younger brother, you wouldn’t be trying to shield someone, would you?" Pei Jingyi said in a mocking tone.

Pei Huaian glared at him, "You’re overthinking it, older brother. If I truly intended to shield someone, I would have simply had the abbot arrested, rather than argue here."

"You!"

"Enough," the Emperor interjected, turning to the official and saying, "Now tell me, what is the meaning of Mass Burial Mound and Mass Burial Mound?"

"To respond to Your Majesty, it should mean that there is a woman who gave birth at Mass Burial Mound."

"Then the so-called usurpation of the nest, could it be referring to this child?" the Emperor asked, eyes narrowed as he scrutinized the official.

"Your Majesty is wise, that is exactly the meaning," the official confirmed.

"Ha ha ha... How daring to fabricate lies and deceive your sovereign! It’s downright treasonous!"

"Your Majesty, please calm your anger, your servant speaks nothing but the truth and would never dare to lie," the official implored.

The Emperor, aware of Abbot Yuan Hui’s credibility in Capital City, realized that his words had certainly caused panic; if the identity of the woman was not investigated, it could destabilize the people’s hearts. Thus, the Emperor decided to have this matter thoroughly investigated.

Because of this, the appointment of the Crown Prince was once again deferred.

After the court session, Pei Huaian went to the Imperial Study Room.

"Father, there’s no need to investigate; the person is Shao He. Our first encounter was at Mass Burial Mound, where she held the newborn Xiao Linzhang in her arms."

"It was only then I knew that she was not only with my child but had also given birth."

"How... How have I never heard of you going to Mass Burial Mound before?" the Emperor asked with a look of surprise in his eyes.

Pei Huaian let out a wry smile and said, "The Empress took advantage of my drunkenness and threw me into Mass Burial Mound. Fortunately, I survived against the odds and happened upon Shao He, who had also been thrown into Mass Burial Mound."

The Emperor had not expected the Empress to be so malicious, and he was unaware of these events; suddenly, he felt that confining the Empress to the Cold Palace was far too lenient.

"If that is the case, everything is coming at the child and Shao He," sighed the Emperor softly.

After reflecting for a moment, Pei Huaian said, "I have investigated this Abbot Yuan Hui, and it seems that all the prophecies he made were deliberately revealed to him by someone; the person behind the scenes has not yet been identified."

"I never believed that there is anything in this world that can predict the future," the Emperor credited.

Pei Huaian continued, "I have also discovered that Abbot Yuan Hui, under the guise of his status, has been amassing wealth, has defiled women’s purity, and even drove a woman to madness. He has done many such ruthless deeds."

The more the Emperor heard, the angrier he became, and he slammed his hand on the table, exclaiming, "Outrageous!"

"Father, in that case, why don’t we turn their own plot against them and use this opportunity to show the people of Capital City Abbot Yuan Hui’s true face?"

The Emperor’s eyes flickered as he asked, "How do you propose we do that?"

Pei Huaian leaned closer to the Emperor’s ear and whispered a few sentences.

The Emperor nodded in approval and said, "Good idea, carry it out just as you’ve suggested."
