Chapter 410 - 412 Empress Captured

Chapter 410: Chapter 412 Empress Captured

The Empress appeared virtuous and magnanimous on the surface, but beneath she was entirely different, which disgusted him to no end.

For years, he had not dared to make a move due to the strength of the Empress’s maternal family. With the fall of the Zhao Family, there was no longer any need for him to continue the pretense.

The Emperor’s words shocked the Empress greatly, and she looked up at him unwillingly and asked angrily, "Your Majesty, why do you force me? You clearly promised that you would never strip me of my position as Empress in this lifetime."

"Heh..." The Emperor scoffed disdainfully.

"I did promise you, but only on the condition that you would not interfere in government affairs. Do you not know what you have done?"

After speaking, the Emperor turned his head away from her and ordered, "Take the Empress back."

"Your Majesty, your consort does not accept this, I do not accept this..." The Empress shrieked hysterically, her eyes reddening fiercely.

The Emperor, turning a deaf ear, simply waved his hand to signal Eunuch Liu to take the Empress away.

Watching the Empress’s figure disappearing at the doorstep, the Emperor rubbed his temples tiredly and sighed deeply.

All the other witnesses and evidence were also taken away, and Yun Qian also left along with Yan Ze.

In the Imperial Study Room, only the Emperor and father and son Pei Huaian remained. The Emperor looked at Pei Huaian with a complex expression and after a long while said hoarsely, "Your mother’s great vengeance has finally been avenged, may she rest in peace in the netherworld."

The Emperor seemed to age considerably in an instant, his eyes showing deep sorrow.

Once, he thought he could protect the woman he loved and his son. However, the woman he loved died tragically, and he could only care for his most beloved son from a distance, daring not to come close.

How sad it was to be the Emperor!

The residual glow of the evening sun streamed through the window lattice, casting a warm light on the floor of the Imperial Study Room. Pei Huaian looked at that lonely figure sitting beside the dragon desk, a tinge of guilt and compassion flashing through his eyes.

He knelt down and kowtowed, "Please rest assured, Father Emperor, your son will never fail to meet your expectations."

The Emperor, slightly stunned by the words, then nodded in relief, "Good, with those words of yours, I can die in peace immediately."

"Father Emperor—" Pei Huaian suddenly raised his head, his eyes deep and resolute.

Seeing this, the Emperor raised Pei Huaian up and patted his thin shoulders, speaking earnestly, "Huaian, your father believes in you and hopes you will not let everyone down."

"Your father also hopes that you will not follow his old path, unable to protect even the woman and child you love. There is only so much I can do for you; the rest of the path must be tread by yourselves."

The Emperor patted his shoulder, walked out with heavy steps, believing in Huaian’s ability to not repeat the same mistakes he and Consort Ming did.

Shao He leaned against the door, gazing dazedly at the neighboring courtyard, wondering what the situation in the palace was like now.

Whether everything was going smoothly for Pei Huaian and Yun Qian, whether the Empress would make any resistance.

She did not know how many times she had sighed, her brows never quite smoothing out.

"Knock knock knock," a series of knocks on the door interrupted her thoughts.

Qingxia was about to open the door, but Shao He rushed ahead, opening it to see Pei Huaian at that moment, her heart finally settled, her lips curling into a radiant smile.

"Are you alright?" Shao He asked worriedly.

Though she knew the Empress wouldn’t do anything to him, she couldn’t help but fear; after all, it wasn’t impossible for such things to occur.

"All is well, everything went smoothly," Pei Huaian replied softly, caressing Shao He’s soft, black hair.

Shao He took Pei Huaian’s hand and led him to sit in the courtyard, pouring him a cup of tea, "Let me make you some food."

Pei Huaian obediently picked up the cup and took a few sips, then grabbed the hand of the person about to leave.

Shao He looked at him, puzzled. Pei Huaian turned to Qingxia and Qing Shan, "Take good care of Xiao Linzhang."

"Yes," the two bowed in response.

Then Pei Huaian pulled Shao He outside, "I’m taking you somewhere."

Pei Huaian mounted his horse and reached out a hand to Shao He.

Without hesitation, Shao He grabbed his large palm, and Pei Huaian pulled her up behind him forcefully, wrapping his arms around her as they galloped away on the horse.

The wind blew against them, messing up their hair, riding the fine horse at the outskirts of the city—it felt incredibly exhilarating!

Shao He looked up, squinting her eyes to enjoy the peace.

"Do you like it?" Pei Huaian’s magnetic, pleasant voice suddenly reached her ear.

Shao He turned her head to look at him, her eyes forming crescents, "Yes, I like it."

Pei Huaian tightened the reins, turning his horse’s head towards the outskirts, and Shao He asked, "Where are we going?"

Pei Huaian didn’t speak, just focused on driving the horse forward.

A period of time later, Pei Huaian reined in the horse, dismounted, and reached out to help Shao He down.

"Where is this?" Shao He, holding his hand, dismounted from the horse and looked at the courtyard in front of her. It seemed to be a manor, but it was different from their previous manor.

"I want to introduce you to my mother," Pei Huaian led her by the hand toward the interior of the manor.

Shao He, surprised, asked, "Isn’t your mother’s tomb supposed to be in the Imperial Mausoleum?"

Seeing her puzzled face, Pei Huaian took the initiative to explain, "I have long suspected there is more to my mother’s death. Wanting it not to be buried in the Imperial Mausoleum under the Empress’s watch, I obtained Father Emperor’s permission to lay her to rest here."
