Reborn As Divine Doctor to Rule the World -
Chapter 397 - 399: Fell for It
Chapter 397: Chapter 399: Fell for It
Pei Chengye opened the package before him and found it filled with various bottles and jars, a smug smile curling up the corners of his mouth.
If this really was the medicine Pei Huaian needed, he certainly wouldn’t come back alive this time.
He immediately sent this news into the imperial palace, and upon hearing it, the Empress felt something was amiss.
How could Shao He have known someone would intercept her on the way and just happened to rescue her? It was all too coincidental.
"Tell Chengye to find a way to bring the package into the palace; I need to verify whether the medicine is authentic," the Empress still felt it necessary for the Imperial Physician to check it before she could be at ease.
"Yes." The nanny immediately went to handle it.
Soon, Pei Chengye entered the imperial palace with the package, and the Imperial Physician was already waiting there.
"Can you check for me what these medicines are for?" the Empress leaned on the khan table, her armored fingertips pointing towards the package.
The Imperial Physician walked over, picked up one of the bottles, opened it, and poured out some powder. He sniffed it at the tip of his nose and his face quickly changed.
In haste, he splashed some tea on his face to regain composure and then knelt down and reported, "Your Majesty, this medicine, this medicine..."
"What exactly is the problem with this medicine?"
"This medicine is used for animals in heat."
As the words of the Imperial Physician fell, the Empress slammed her hand on the table and furiously exclaimed, "Nonsense!"
"Your Majesty, please forgive me," the Imperial Physician trembled while kneeling on the floor.
"Alright, you may leave for now," the Empress calmed her rage and waved the Imperial Physician away.
The Imperial Physician, wiping the sweat from his forehead with his sleeves, hastily stood up and retreated. Having left the Empress’s palace, he still felt a chill throughout his body, not warmed even by the blazing sun.
Originally excited, Pei Chengye began to wonder, "How could this be? I clearly got this package at that time."
The Empress glanced at him and said in a deep voice, "Why this has happened, don’t you understand yet?"
Pei Chengye thought for a moment, then suddenly said, "Mother means we were deceived. This isn’t the package meant for Pei Huaian at all. It’s likely a diversionary tactic."
"I didn’t expect such a young female doctor to be so difficult to deal with," the Empress’s eyes flickered with angry light.
Seeing his opportunity, Pei Chengye suggested, "Mother, now that Pei Huaian is not in the Capital City, although we can’t deal with him, we could use this opportunity to eliminate Shao He."
The Empress’s gaze deepened as she looked at the distant red flowers, pondering for a long time.
"Mother?" Pei Chengye did not understand whether she agreed or not.
Instead of answering his question, the Empress shifted the topic, "How is Jiang Zhou?"
"Just a woman tucked away in the back house, she could hardly stir up any big waves," Pei Chengye said dismissively.
The Empress was rather dissatisfied with his approach and reminded him, "Jiang Zhou, after all, is the legitimate daughter of the Jiang Family. If you could gain the support of the Jiang Family, your chances of success would increase."
"Her daughter is already married to me, could they possibly support someone else?" Pei Chengye said impatiently.
He didn’t like the type of woman Jiang Zhou represented. An older age was one thing, but she was always tense, which was irritating to him.
"At any rate, she is now your Principal Wife; do not let things get too tense, especially at a time when you need support," the Empress frowned and said.
"What Mother says, your son understands," Pei Chengye responded.
The Empress shook her head and sighed, "What concerns me is the Jiang Family behind her."
The Jiang Family was not as kind as they appeared on the surface; everyone therein was quite crafty.
And how could the legitimate daughter of the Jiang Family be a mere innocent; I fear she’s a cunning wolf that might turn and bite Chengye.
Seeing the weariness between the Empress’s brows, Pei Chengye immediately showed concern, "Mother, are you tired? Your son will help you rest."
"Yes." The Empress nodded, allowing him to help her lie down.
In Anji Hall, Shao He looked at the familiar face before her and paused momentarily. It seemed the other was just as surprised to see her there.
Both their eyes showed signs of surprise, and then they looked at each other and smiled, "It seems we are fated to meet again here."
"Indeed, how coincidental. May I know what ailments you are suffering from?" Shao He smiled and asked.
"Frequent insomnia, chest pain, sometimes discomfort in my left shoulder, and a breathless feeling after long periods of activity."
"Is there anything else?" Shao He suddenly remembered the incense he wore every day, likely used to regulate his body.
"Besides that, I don’t feel discomfort in other areas."
Because of his health, even though he loved martial arts, he had to give it up, now only carrying a worn sword, unable to draw it anymore.
He had heard that in Anji Hall there was a female doctor whose medical skills were miraculous, referred to as the Divine Doctor similar to Hua Tuo of the past, specializing in all kinds of difficult diseases.
He had specifically come here seeking a remedy, not expecting that the female doctor was the woman he had encountered the previous day.
"I need to give you a thorough examination," Shao He realized through pulse reading that he likely had a heart problem.
It was very likely a heart blood vessel blockage, leading to his not being able to circulate blood properly, causing this series of issues, but a detailed diagnosis would be needed for further assessment, and she could not make a decision now.
As for how severe the condition was and how to treat it, she would need to decide after further checks.
