Chapter 390: Chapter 391: Arrogant Woman

The woman turned at the sound and, seeing the person approaching slowly, said displeased, "What business is it of yours that I’m disciplining my husband here?"

"If you want to discipline someone, go back home to do that. This is Anji Hall, not a place for you to quarrel!" Shao He said in a cold voice.

At that moment, a young girl called Lili ran out of the room. Seeing the commotion outside, she quickly ran to the woman’s side, took her arm, and pleaded cautiously, "Mother, it’s all Lili’s fault. Please don’t be angry with father, will you?"

"Get lost, don’t dirty my clothes." The woman, looking at Shao He and Lili with disdain, pushed him to the ground without a second thought.

She didn’t even spare him a glance and just continued to fuss over her sleeve, complaining incessantly, "I always know no good comes with you around, and this dress is a limited edition."

"What are you doing? Lili is still hurt, how could you treat her like that!" The man sprinted over, helped his daughter up from the ground, and, seeing her scraped palm, felt extremely distressed.

Qingxia couldn’t help but murmur softly, "This woman is too heartless, to neglect her own daughter like that."

The woman overheard this and suddenly looked up at Qingxia, berating fiercely, "Who asked for your opinion, you lowly maid! Mind your own business or I’ll tear your filthy mouth apart!"

Qingxia stood firmly behind Shao He, her chest puffed out, and her eyes wide as she faced off with the woman, who was proving to be truly arrogant and domineering.

Watching the scene unfold, Shao He felt a heart-wrenching pain; she never imagined that in this world there could be a mother who didn’t care for her own daughter.

Seeing Shao He dare to look at her that way, the woman became even more infuriated, pointing at Shao He and yelling, "Let me tell you, I won’t pay a cent for their treatment today."

"Heh... trying to dodge the bill?" Shao He scoffed disdainfully.

Qingxia, with eyes widened in shock, stared at the woman, unable to believe someone could be so despicable and shameless as to refuse to pay for her daughter’s medical bills.

With a sneer, the woman said, "Whoever treated the illness should be the one asking for payment."

After speaking, the woman shot a disdainful glance at the man standing to one side and mocked angrily, "Do you think he, looking like that, has even a single copper coin to his name? Even beggars are probably richer than him."

The man suddenly lost his temper, his eyes splitting with rage as he glared at the haughty woman and shouted, "Enough! Lili is your daughter too, how can you be so cruel!"

"Cruel? Isn’t it because you forced me? You’ve always been jealous of my father’s fortune, it’s your failure to give me a son, it’s you who let my father down immensely!" The woman pushed all the blame onto the man, as if none of it had anything to do with her.

The man put down Lili, clenched his fists tight, the veins on the back of his hands bulging, and advanced step by step toward the woman.

"It was you who didn’t want to consummate our marriage, it was your family who guarded against me at every turn; moreover, it was your father who thwarted me step by step, not allowing me to take the exams to achieve a title. You think I don’t know about you and your cousin’s dirty affairs?"

Having her sore spot poked, the woman’s face twisted in malice, and she slapped the man across the face.

With a "smack," the loud and crisp sound echoed through the courtyard, leaving everyone stunned.

The exposed woman screamed hysterically. She rushed over, grabbed the man by the collar, and began to beat him wildly, "It’s clearly you who’s inadequate, yet you shift the blame onto others!"

"You lunatic!" The woman raised her hand again, delivering another slap to the other side of his face. This time, he didn’t dodge.

"Smack!"

"Smack!"

Successive slaps landed on the man’s cheeks, left and right. The woman finally caught her breath, screaming hysterically, "Get out! I don’t need a filthy, despicable man like you for a husband. Get out!"

She snatched a teacup from the table and threw it hard at the man’s forehead. The broken porcelain cut his forehead, and blood flowed out, but the man seemed unfazed by the pain.

"Mother, don’t hit father, please don’t hit him," Lili cried, rushing over and grabbing the hem of the woman’s skirt, shaking it.

Seeing Lili only made the woman more enraged, blaming her for the public embarrassment, and she headed outside, dragging her by the arm.

The man finally reacted, snatched Lili away, and shielded her behind him, his eyes wary as he looked at the woman. "What are you doing? She’s your daughter."

"Daughter? I don’t have such a pathetic daughter who causes trouble everywhere, disturbing the peace at home, and even makes you argue with me because of her!" The woman yelled furiously.

Upon hearing this, the man’s brow furrowed slightly, but he still stood protectively in front of Lili and said firmly, "What are you planning to do?"

"I’m sending her away. Step aside, or don’t blame me for being heartless!" The woman’s eyes narrowed malevolently.

Upon hearing this, the man didn’t move an inch but stood his ground steadfastly, his brows knitted tightly, silent.

Frightened, Lili huddled in her father’s arms and sobbed, "Father, I don’t want to leave you, woo-woo-woo..."

At this point, Zhao Yuebei and the others couldn’t stand by any longer and began to intercede, "Madam, whatever issues you have with your husband, please discuss them calmly. Don’t cause a major upheaval."

"Step aside!"

"I won’t move!"

"Enough! What do you think this place is?" Shao He huffed coldly, his icy gaze sweeping over the crowd.
