Chapter 387 - 388: Ill Intentions

Chapter 387: Chapter 388: Ill Intentions

"Understood," Shao He said as she rose to leave. As she started walking through the doorway, she suddenly stopped and asked, "Was the tea served?"

"Tea was served," Qing Shan replied.

Only then did Shao He continue forward, well aware that the Eldest Princess was extremely particular.

Arriving at the front hall, Huimin was tasting tea and looked up indifferently upon hearing footsteps.

"Doctor Shao, you are indeed busy; it’s truly not easy to meet you," Huimin said with a mixture of sarcasm and reproach.

Shao He knew the Eldest Princess harbored ill intentions, but she was still an elder, and certain courtesies were due.

"I apologize for my tardiness, Your Highness; please forgive me," Shao He said with a slight bow.

Huimin, however, wasn’t appeased by her gesture and instead chuckled, "Who would dare blame you? Now that you are greatly favored by the Imperial Brother and are also the Fifth Prince’s Consort."

Shao He forced a smile, and Qingxia was somewhat angry, but seeing her mistress swallow her pride, she too could only silently lower her head.

"Come, sit down," Huimin beckoned.

"Thank you, Your Highness."

Shao He had just walked over and sat down when Huimin suddenly spat out a mouthful of tea and, wiping the corners of her mouth with a handkerchief, said displeased, "What kind of tea is this, that it tastes so awful?"

"To respond to the Eldest Princess, this tea is..."

"Silence! Even a maid dares to speak out before her master, truly lacking any manners." Huimin scolded harshly.

"Doctor Shao, it seems the people in your household are really outrageous. Today, this princess shall educate them on your behalf," Huimin declared.

After saying this, she turned to a maid standing by and said coldly, "Take her away and teach her a good lesson, lest she embarrass Doctor Shao in the future!"

Shao He’s brows furrowed slightly, knowing the day might not end well.

"Hold on, this person is after all a member of my household; I would rather not always trouble Your Highness," she said.

Shao He turned back to give Qingxia a look and said sternly, "Don’t you hurry off, lest you cause the Eldest Princess further irritation."

"Yes. This servant will take her leave."

Seeing the person departing did not stop Huimin from taunting Shao He, she instead sneered, "But it’s true, what good tea could possibly come from your household?"

Her anger now fully ignited, Shao He stopped pretending and laughed, saying directly, "Eldest Princess targets me like this, I fear it’s because of the Emperor’s decree granting my marriage, isn’t it?"

"You..."

Shao He did not appear to let her relax, continuing evenly, "But the Imperial Decree was requested by Pei Huaian, issued by the Emperor, and even the Empress Dowager consented. Why does the Eldest Princess only trouble me, someone who has been kind to you? Isn’t this returning kindness with enmity?"

She then sipped tea from the cup before her and added faintly, "This tea indeed isn’t much, far inferior to the tea used in the palace."

Furious and trembling all over, Huimin glared at Shao He. After a long moment, she calmed down and said coldly, "Since you know why I am here, admit your mistake quickly and don’t waste time."

"I did nothing wrong, so why should I admit any?"

With widened eyes, Huimin abruptly stood up, slamming the table and pointing at Shao He, "Fine, this is how you treat your elder!"

"Eldest Princess, you are mistaken," Shao He said coldly. "Although I am quick-tempered, I never unjustly bully others. If not for your deliberate difficulty, would I disrespect an elder?"

"You... you dare to contradict this princess." Huimin pointed at Shao He, at a loss for words, then shouted, "Come here."

"What is it that the Princess intends?" Shao He asked, with a mocking smile.

"Of course, to let you know the consequences of offending the Imperial Clan, come here!" Huimin grimly called.

Shao He laughed coldly, silently waiting for the guards to burst into the room.

Before the guards could even come close, Shao He threw out a handful of powder, and the guards all collapsed, unconscious. Huimin, eyes wide with fear, pointed at Shao He and stuttered, "You, you..."

"Your Highness, I can’t be blamed; it was clearly your people who threw themselves over," Shao He said.

"Shao, He! You..." Huimin choked, and it took a moment before she managed to grind out four words from between her teeth, "You are impressive!"

"Thank you for the compliment, Your Highness," Shao He replied, smiling lightly.

Taking a deep breath to suppress the rage in her heart, Huimin slowly sat down and said solemnly, "A woman like you is simply not worthy of Huaian, you will only ruin him!"

Shao He smiled and did not speak, maintaining her cheerful demeanor and lightly responded with a yes.

"You’d better pray that nothing happens to Huaian, for if something does, I surely won’t let you off!"

"Also, you once treated the Princess’s hemorrhoids only because you wanted to cling to power, and you should realize, being unclean and with a child, if you truly become the Principal Wife, you will only turn Huaian into a laughing stock of the Capital City!"

Huimin, trying to be hard now soft, hoped to enlighten Shao He with emotion and reason, to make her give way of her own accord.

Yet, facing these accusations, Shao He countered, "Why doesn’t the Princess feel that men taking wives and concubines are unclean? Moreover, throughout history, there haven’t been few women who were remarried, and many who wed again rose to high positions. Why must the Princess cling so tightly to me?"

"How can that be the same, Huaian’s status is different, and since ancient times, men have had multiple wives and concubines, a rule unchanging through the ages!"

Narrowing her phoenix eyes, Huimin stared dangerously at Shao He, caught off guard by her formidable eloquence.
