Chapter 377: Chapter 378: Truly a Tough Nut to Crack

"A pear blossom wooden bed, a rosewood desk, and Shao He’s favorite tea set, the Ruyi Mandarin Duck Pillow, and..."

"Master? Are you sure you want to bring so many things into the prison?" Ah Mo quickly interrupted and asked tentatively.

"If I can’t take the person away, I’ll move the things in," said Pei Huaian as he stood up and walked out.

Seeing the obvious gloom and anger on his master’s face, Ah Mo couldn’t help but whisper to himself in the back of his mind: These people really had a death wish, daring to touch the master’s bottom line.

Thinking of this, Ah Mo glanced back at the woman lying on the bed, pale-faced. Although this time it didn’t cost Doctor Shao her life, she had still been seriously injured.

This was enough to push the master’s rage to the extreme, Ah Mo raised his eyes, caught sight of that menacingly clouded handsome face, and nearly had his soul frightened away.

"Yes, subordinate will order it done immediately," Ah Mo said hurriedly with his head lowered.

"Where is the assassin who was captured?" Just as he had turned to leave, he heard a cold, icy voice from behind.

"Reporting to the master, the assassin is in the furthest cell on the eastern side, where it is extremely dark and damp."

"Let’s go and take a look," Pei Huaian said indifferently with a sweep of his look, stepping out.

"Yes!" Ah Mo followed quickly.

In the cell at the furthest east, in the dim environment, a man could be vaguely seen sitting cross-legged within, his eyes tightly shut. Hearing the commotion, he slowly opened his eyes.

"Who sent you to kill Shao He? Speak!"

The man slightly curled the corners of his lips, revealing a mocking and scornful smile: "Heh."

"Go to hell!" Pei Huaian abruptly stood up, his fury unleashed as he drew his sword and struck, the long sword whistled sharply through the air, piercing the man’s shoulder without warning...

Bright red blood flowed down the blade, dripping onto the black floor, spreading eerily beautiful.

Yet the assassin showed no reaction, merely giving him a cold look.

"A real tough nut to crack, but I just so happen to enjoy dealing with your kind. If you speak now, there’s still a chance for you. Later, even if you want to talk, this prince will not want to hear it."

Utterly disdainful, the assassin shot him a contemptuous glance, then briskly pulled the long sword out with his hand, blood immediately spraying forth.

Ah Mo staggered back two steps in fright: "So cruel!"

"Ugh..." The only response from the assassin was a pained groan, sweat beading densely on his forehead.

"Ah Mo, lock him up with iron chains, and then bring honey and various poisonous insects," Pei Huaian ordered, settling into the chair brought by the constable, lifting his robe.

"Yes."

Ah Mo acted quickly, the assassin was immediately hung up by chains.

Then he smeared honey on the assassin’s wounds, and after doing this, he took out a jar and released the poisonous insects, scorpions, centipedes, and the like contained inside.

The insects crawled up his clothes towards the wounds, gnawing incessantly.

The assassin looked down, his pupils dilating instantly as he struggled with all his might, yet still unable to move.

Ah— Prolonged screams of agony came from outside the prison, unceasing.

"Too noisy, gag him for this prince," Pei Huaian commanded.

Ah Mo stuffed a torn cloth into the assassin’s mouth. The muffled sounds continued, as if trying to say something, but Pei Huaian coldly sneered and turned to leave.

"Mmmph, mmmph mmmph!"

The constable looked on at the scene, his pupils instantly widening, gasping in shock and disbelief: "This... to kill is to silence, and the Fifth Prince’s method... is even more painful than death!"

When Shao He awoke, the cell was dimly lit. She looked up, somewhat dazed.

Why would she see a pear blossom carved wooden bed in a prison?

She abruptly sat up from the bed, the movement causing her wounds to hurt so badly she gasped cold air.

Pei Huaian was sitting at the desk, immediately setting aside the document he was holding at the sound and walking over.

"Why are you up? Lie down and rest at once."

Grasping his sleeve, Shao He asked, "Where am I now?"

"Naturally, you’re in the prison, where else could you be?" Pei Huaian tried to help her lie down.

But Shao He was stubborn, sharply saying, "You’re still lying to me. How can a prison be so luxurious? Look at this bed, look at those desks and chairs, and the tea set, the rocking chair, they are clearly things from the residence."

After saying this, she suddenly realized something was off and looked again towards the rocking chair, feeling that something was amiss.

Pei Huaian chuckled lightly, "Who says these things only appear in the residence and cannot be in here?"

Shao He struggled to look outside, to the prison door that had been hammered in, and then understood.

"You moved the things into the prison?" Shao He exclaimed, her eyes widening in shock.

Pei Huaian steadied her arms, tucking her in, and then said slowly, "Now, you just need to focus on recovering your health. Don’t think about anything, don’t worry about anything; I will handle it all."

As Pei Huaian stood up, his arm was grasped. He patted Shao He’s hand and softly said, "I’ll pour you a cup of water."

It was only then that Shao He slowly let go of his hand, watching his retreating figure with a slight smile at the corner of her mouth.

Pei Huaian returned with the tea, supported her as she drank, and considerately wiped her mouth with a cloth.

"I will handle the case. The most important thing for you now is to recover," Pei Huaian reiterated, full of concerns.

For the first time, Shao He didn’t argue but obediently nodded her head.
