Chapter 241: Interesting Turn Of Events
Razial instantly shuffled ahead, his cloak flowing behind him as he raised his hands and constructed a large blue shield of ice blocking the physical attack. The green splattered against the blue and slowly melted it with a hissing sound.
But the emotional attack hit them despite Cassandra’s shield. It softened, but only slightly; all of them began to speak abruptly.
"I wish I was never a first-born. I am jealous of your carefree lifestyle, Faris." Siroos turned to his brother and spoke openly in regret. His eyes seemed dazed, there was chaos in his head as his animal spirits wrecked up an internal storm, fighting against each other.
"And me of your dragon, who wouldn’t want to possess a dragon?" Faris openly said unable to hold himself back. His hands on his hips and eyes narrowed at his brother. The younger man tried to puff his chest out.
"I am jealous of your fancy gowns and jewellery. You are always so pink and proper, I wish I had those too," Aiko turned to Lotus and said in a voice which bordered on jealousy and resentment. Her blue eyes were coated over with a shield of jealousy; the hellhound’s green fire of envy burnt deep in them.
Lotus opened her mouth but lamented about Stephanie and her father. Her pretty little head shook left and right.
"I envy Stephanie and how our father only cared about her. I wish to strangle her with my hands." She extended her hands forward and clenched them like claws, imagining Stephanie’s neck there.
"I should have been born a prince, Lotus would have come to me earlier." Razial wistfully stared at the petite woman who was still clenching her hands.
"I regret how I wronged you, Cassandra," Razial then turned towards a bewildered Cassandra. She was watching her companions one after the other, going off their hooks.
"I betrayed Ara," Faris began to wail as the hellhound snarled and tried to overpower them with his aura.
Cassandra squeezed her magic out, keeping the vicious beast away from her people. But it was the hellhound’s eyes that Cassandra noticed holding some fleeting emotion of plea before it was lost in the deep dark depths and was replaced by fury.
"I hate my dirty clothes and shoes. And my hair looks like a dove’s nest and I need to take a bath," Lotus clutched at her hair and walked.
"Cassandra is mine."
"..No! She is mine."
"In your dreams—only I own her heart," Siroos was speaking in different tones, meaning his animal spirits were in charge and out of control. His hand kept tapping his temple in frustration. The hellhound’s growls were getting anxious in the background as it scraped its burning paw on the ground.
The goddess was lost in this mayhem for a few seconds as all her companions continued to cry and lament around her. She clasped her hands together and closed her eyes, placing her nose on her joined thumbs. Her calming aura seeped out of her in comforting waves of lilac and silver like the wisps of a hot comforting tea. It enveloped her companions, permeated into them and poured into their hearts.
They were jolted back to reality; the negativity and envy were repulsed from their hearts, and only her love and assurance remained. It was like a reawakening.
Cassandra triumphantly opened her eyes when she heard their breathy sighing and focused on their bewildered faces.
She declared with her signature smile that made her beautiful eyes crinkle at the edges.
"Good to have you back. I have strengthened your hearts but you have to fight your inner demons. And I know all of you can do it, and together, we can accomplish anything. That’s the reason we were chosen for this task and had a prophecy made about us. Let’s do this folks."
Lotus shook her head in embarrassment. She had acted like a brat.
"Thank you, SIL. Let’s put this bastard in his place," Faris shouted, holding his axe from the strong hilt and baring his teeth at the creature.
Siroos thankfully nodded, the spirits had relatively calmed inside his head. He let Duskborn take over and the battle commenced.
The fire-fought fire, physical and literal, merged with Razial’s ice. He constructed shield after shield, spikes after spikes and rained on it a full storm of hails, the size of lemons.
The hellhound’s protective armour was almost impossible to penetrate and whatever touched him melted away—Lotus’s vines, Razial’s icicles. Duskborn’s fire dealt some damage but most of his flames were absorbed by the demonic beast.
He flew towards the hellhound and grabbed him in his claws, but the green fire was hotter than he had imagined and most of it burnt only in his imagination. He had to plunge him to the ground. His claws weren’t burnt and yet they seemed to be on fire.
The battle was fierce, with the companions fighting not just the hellhound but also their inner demons. Each of them faced their insecurities as the beast relentlessly taunted them. Each snarl hit them in their hearts which Cassandra continued to strengthen.
Faris remained at the back, away from the gaze of the hellhound, as Aiko hesitated; the hellhound’s aura forced her to relive her doubts about her abilities.
"You can do it, Aiko," Her mate dispelled her fears. They had cooked up a plan, and Aiko was the key to completing it.
Amid the chaos, she turned to her mate and the reassuring smile on his face made her find her lost courage, driven by the belief that only she could save her friends.
She focused her energy, extended her hands with palms facing the hellhound and opened the portal right above his head. Its edges crackled with vibrant blue light—a stark contrast to the hellhound’s malevolent flames. From the portal jumped out Faris, her fated mate, wielding his axe of glowing silver, directed at the hellhound’s protective head armour.
"Arghhhh!" Faris shouted as he brought the axe down. It struck the hellhound’s enchanted armour, the blow resonating like thunder and echoing in this dark loveless place. Cracks appeared in the molten metal, glowing brightly before shattering into fiery shards that scattered across the ground.
The beast viciously snarled as Duskborn’s claws found it again and pinned it down.
With its protective gear destroyed, the beast’s flames faltered and dimmed. Aiko screamed in joy as she rushed towards her mate, who had swiftly landed near the hellhound.
Lotus had extracted a bottle and blew out her sleeping magic dust towards the woozy hellhound struggling against Duskborn. His eyes flickered one last time as a screech died in its mouth and eyelids shut tight, the body going limp in Duskborn’s hold.
The companions combinedly resolved at the victory.
"Woohooo! We did it." Aiko threw her arms around her mate and he picked her up by the waist and twirled around. The joy on their faces was priceless but a tinge of embarrassment could be found.
"Yes, we did."
Razial and Lotus bound the hellhound using her creepers. They weren’t meeting each other’s gaze, embarrassment was at the forefront of their brains.
Cassandra rubbed Duskborn’s back as he stepped away.
"Whatever was said shouldn’t be taken to heart, everyone has insecurities, but they don’t define who you all are. Remember that and don’t be embarrassed." Cassandra put them all at ease and they visibly relaxed.
"Let’s get out of here." The dragon nodded his big head and they gathered around him.
Aiko opened the portal back to the throne room of the goddess of oath. They decided to return before the goddess of jealousy missed her favourite hellhound. Razial dragged him behind as they stepped through the portal and returned.
Sahli was pacing the throne room as the portal opened and victorious CAFLRS stepped out of it. Her expectant eyes wavered at them; there was an urgency in her gait as she rushed towards them.
Razial tossed the unconscious hellhound to her feet, completing their task.
"Here, we fulfilled our promise, it’s time you keep your word and release my mate from the oath," Cassandra requested as Duskborn transformed into Siroos and stood tall by her side.
Sahli’s curious gaze raked over the hellhound’s sleek body. The green and black fire that burnt in him had almost extinguished, and right before their eyes, his body began to change. His limbs shortened, the skin changed colour, the tail and the blackness disappeared as he transformed into a naked man, lying there all curled up.
Stunned shocked gasps erupted from the women as Sahli stepped forward and turned him around from his shoulder. A startled inhale had her veil trembling. Her steps faltered and she almost fell. Erinyeses gathered around her, letting out tiny wails as they supported their goddess while others watched in astonishing silence.
What was happening???
Her lips trembled as a name fell through her lips in a silent whimper wrapped in her pain.
"Aras!!! That’s you?"
