Reborn As Cursed Alpha's Mate -
Chapter 231: Who Is Gildaryn?
Chapter 231: Who Is Gildaryn?
The gold dragon admitted defeat as the blood oozed out of several wounds and coated his perfectly golden coat.
It bowed its head to Siroos’s dragon.
"You fought very well, my friend. No one has ever been able to defeat me. Truly you have been blessed by the goddess."
The black dragon, although injured, still proudly hovered and offered an appreciative nod to the golden beast.
It landed near his companions.
Cassandra desperately bolted and wrapped her arms around the black dragon, who had fought valiantly. Her hands grazed his wounds as crimson fluid leaked out of them. They began to heal rapidly wherever her palms passed onto his rough, scaly skin. The wounds instantly closed up as if they hadn’t existed.
He rubbed his big maw with Cassandra’s body in appreciation and affection.
The golden dragon watched them, slightly mesmerised. Others also moved closer, seeing the battle had ended and the gold beast posed no threat.
"Your mate is no ordinary woman," the sun-kissed dragon commented, closely observing Cassandra. He could sense the powers oozing out of her and that divine light she held.
Cassandra turned to the wounded beast and boldly asked.
"Can we leave now? You promised we could, if we defeated you."
"Yes, but I want to reward your dragon for subduing me. May I?" He asked for permission before approaching Siroos’s dragon and Cassandra.
She nodded but kept her shield up in case he tried to attack them. The gold dragon moved slowly, his body still glinting under the golden rays and halted a few feet away.
"I am Gildaryn, I used to be a god once but got tired of the politics and made this place my abode to find peace. But people wouldn’t stop seeking me out for the treasures. Greedy people, I hate that trait. So I put up this condition that whoever could defeat me would get one wish fulfilled by me and a part of my treasure. No one did, except you. I don’t find any malice or greed in your hearts—just love and devotion," Gildaryn paused and gave an appreciative look to Siroos.
The realisation hit Cassandra. She remembered reading about him although she hadn’t met him. He was the god of treasures and loved hoarding and bestowing them upon his favoured subjects. But too many gods began to intervene, asking for favours and he got tired of the greed.
"Ohhh! You are Gildaryn, I should have guessed. That was quite a commotion you caused back in the days when you quit the Council of Gods and disappeared."
Others watched with interest where this conversation was headed.
"And you are a reborn goddess I am assuming."
"Yes, I am Asara. Ironically, the goddess of love. Not born out of love though," she sardonically replied.
"Aylin and Arkiam’s daughter? That bastard didn’t deserve a goddess like Aylin. Sorry to say but your father is rotten to the core." Gildaryn let out what sounded like a snorting chuckle.
"No lies deducted there," Lotus quipped.
"I second that," Faris raised his hand.
"No offence taken. You spoke the truth." Cassandra offered a wry smile as her mate rubbed his face on her arm.
"Anyways, as promised I would like to give a name to your mate’s dragon spirit. Duskborn, I am sure it will suit him well," Gildaryn smiled seeing a joyous sheen in the black dragon’s eyes.
"Duskborn, I love the sound of that. Do you like it? Big boy?" Cassandra asked, patting his jaw and head with her hands and he nodded in approval.
"That’s such a fitting name for him," Razial commented.
"I would like to award him with a gift, the power of speech." Tip of Gildaryn’s wing reached out and touched Duskborn’s head. A blinding white light surged from his wing and crossed Cassandra’s shield, reaching into his brain like the tendrils of light. Duskborn stopped moving for a second as the light spread to his neurons.
"I have gifted him with the power of speech. Now he can converse with you," Gildaryn proudly declared.
CAFLRS blinked and stared at the gold-shaded beast as if he was joking but the real shock came when Duskborn turned towards his mate and called out her name in his deep voice.
"Cassandra!"
A sea of emotions she sank into hearing him speak her name like that. She grabbed his huge maw and placed her nose against his nostrils affectionately.
"You can speak? Oh! My big boy can talk to me." She excitedly shrieked, throwing her arms around him. The dragon embraced his mate and let out a soft growl.
"Yes! And I have so much to tell you. Talking through Siroos was a pain." Siroos grunted inside his head but the dragon ignored him like he used to do.
"That’s a miracle!" Aiko exclaimed.
"He is going to be so nasty," Faris whispered to his mate and both had to snicker.
"What a power." Lotus was impressed.
Duskborn turned to Gildaryn.
"I appreciate this gift and will always cherish it."
"Good luck with your endeavours. Where are you headed? Perhaps, I can guide you," Gildaryn asked, folding his wings.
"It’s a long story," Cassandra sighed.
"I have all the time in the world. Entertain me. It’s not like I get visitors every day and those I do are mostly selfish people, I burn," Gildaryn said in a bored tone, licking the wound on his wings.
They passed each other a look and Duskborn asked his mate.
"Tell him."
Cassandra began the tale of their curse and the chain of events that followed. The huge beast listened intently.
"That is so like your father. Bloody god of hate he should have been," Gildaryn spat making laughter roll out of others. They were loving his sense of humour.
"I like him," Faris commented and Gildaryn winked at him.
"So you are looking for Riemc’s Tree of Hope. Its still far from here and you will get hurdles in the way but I can specify the location for you and it will become easier."
