Chapter 216: Journey Begins Again

"Goddess of Underworld? Are you being serious?" Siroos’s befuddlement was visible on his face. He didn’t reveal that he had most probably already met her minions.

"That’s what he said, we don’t know how true it is. Maybe that’s the reason we live in these frozen cursed lands. She left and returned to the Underworld or wherever she had come from."

"I see, it could be true." Siroos knew this was not the first time a goddess had fallen for a mortal man and tried to build her life. He wondered what their story might be. It was tragic though that she didn’t succeed.

"Yes, but that tree hasn’t sprouted in a very long time, so good luck." The old man rolled back the cloth and handed it to Siroos.

"Thank you! We would be leaving, and have a very long journey ahead of us."

Siroos stood up and shook hands with the man.

Soon Faris and Razial joined him and informed that bodies had been taken care of. Razial had buried them deep using his powers so no one would find them and removed every trace of the scent that accompanied them, so whoever would come looking wouldn’t be able to find them.

They fetched their horses and carriage and headed over to the edge of the village where the ladies were casting the protective barrier around it.

Cassandra’s magic flew out of her in waves of orangish gold, spiralling, weaving and spreading through the cold, dense air, creating a full circle around the whole village.

Everyone stood mesmerised as they watched her craft this perfect halo which soon merged with the air and disappeared, creating an invisible barrier.

Lotus reinforced it with her powers and both merged to give birth to this impenetrable dome around this secluded village.

The ladies were exhausted after completing their spells, they had used every ounce of their magic and energy to keep these people safe.

"That was so captivating to watch, you are truly gifted." Halri moved closer, clutching Cassandra’s hands and squeezing them. Her face broke into a smile of gratitude.

"Just be safe and remain strong. We will meet again." Cassandra hugged her.

Siroos stepped ahead once Cassandra let go of Halri. Putting his arm around his mate he pulled her into himself and pecked the top of her head.

"You did great, I am proud of you," he murmured into her hair, making her smile as she leaned onto him.

Razial tried to follow Siroos’s example when Lotus quickly said.

"I am good, I am fine." She wasn’t yet comfortable with his open show of affection; it was strange for her.

The kiss they shared still had her insides burning and making her feel all kinds of awkward whenever she tried to look at him. He had noticed she was avoiding him and wondered if he was a bad kisser. He wasn’t very expert in that regard.

Saying their goodbyes, they got on their horses and carriage. Faris took the reins of the carriage and pulled. Aiko chose to sit with her mate and he was happy to oblige. The intense night they had shared had his heart melting for her.

Luca let go of his mother’s hand and ran to where Razial had climbed on his horse. Seeing the young boy arrive, Razial picked him up and promptly sat him in front. He extended his wooden horse towards him.

"Come back again," the little boy whispered with teary eyes.

"Thank you! Luca, I will surely come to meet you soon." Razial took the tiny horse from the boy and placed it in his coat. Kissing his chubby cheek, Razial let the boy return to his mother. He waved with his tiny hand.

The ladies said goodbye to the village women. The procession began to head out with Cassandra sending a prayer that they would be safe and she would return there soon and help them evacuate this place.

Lotus lazily leaned back in the comfortable seat and stifled a yawn. Cassandra turned to her sister with a naughty grin and teased.

"It seems someone didn’t sleep much last night."

Lotus narrowed her eyes at her grinning sister.

"If you are implying that Razial and I slept together, that didn’t happen. Sorry to disappoint you, little sister."

Cassandra crossed her arms and went.

"Hmm! I wonder why you are avoiding his gaze then. What happened? And I need full details, don’t you dare lie or omit any part."

Lotus huffed.

"Fine, fine. You are becoming bossy. Brother-in-law has really spoiled you. I am happy at this fact but nothing can be hidden from you anymore."

"Spill." Cassandra placed her arms around her sister and pulled her close so she could share the juicy secret.

"All right, we may have kissed," Lotus defeatedly said, averting her gaze.

Cassandra’s satisfied smile jumped to her eyes brightening them.

"May have? Tell me he kissed you the way you deserve and desire, tell me you liked it. That man is pining so hard for you."

"I did, I loved it so much. It was like he reached into my soul and touched it. But..." she looked away, her cheeks tinting pink.

"Don’t tell me you are feeling shy." Cassandra let a teasing laugh fall through her lips.

"Stop teasing me," Lotus reprimanded, but continued to speak to a snickering Cassandra.

"I am ashamed to admit I wanted more; as soon as our lips parted, I wished he would peel off my clothes and kiss other parts of me, too. There was this image in my brain..."

Lotus let the words hang not wanting to corrupt her sister more with her colourful imagery of what she wished the commander to do to her.

"You read too many romance novels and now all those pent-up feelings you kept suppressed have surfaced. I am sure Razial won’t mind fulfilling all your fantasies. Just give him a chance."

"Not only fantasies but dark fantasies. And we are on a mission, Cass. We are uncertain of the future. I don’t want to give him false hope." Lotus yearningly sighed.

"That shouldn’t stop you from pursuing your heart’s desires, Lotus. Razial is a very loyal man, don’t keep him waiting too long. And I think he will perfectly fulfil all those dark desires. Trust me." Cassandra winked at her sister while Lotus placed her head on Cassandra’s shoulder and closed her eyes.
