Reborn As Cursed Alpha's Mate -
Chapter 209: A Child’s Request
Chapter 209: A Child’s Request
Luca’s mother laid out the table for the guests and took out the finest of her crockery. After her husband was killed by Kanyon, she lost hope on so many occasions, but her son kept her going, and today, she has found her will to live again.
The youngest couple brought tons of vegetables, fruits, meat, wine bottles and grains.
"We had some extra, it will help through the winters and for tonight’s dinner." The girl with the blackest hair Halri had ever seen told her with a lovely smile.
"You didn’t have to." Halri tried to refuse but she and her mate insisted that they kept everything and fed the children.
Since the tragedy that had befallen them, the visit of these blessed strangers seemed to have brought hope back into their dreary lives. A will to survive had ignited in them.
The magical sister duo had helped them beyond what they could have imagined. Now, they tried to help her in cooking as well, but Halri soon discovered their cooking skills were close to zero, especially the one with pink attire.
The gorgeous lady couldn’t even peel potatoes so Halri graciously asked her to take a break and served her tea. She brightened like the sun at that.
"Thank you!" She took her teacup and settled down in the small living room.
Her sister, on the other hand, insisted on helping them and even baked some unique-styled bread, which was common in her tribe.
"Where are you from?" Halri asked as she dropped the chopped vegetables into the curry.
"I am from the north but live in the east now," Cassandra answered with a polite smile but didn’t emphasise on the particulars.
Once the food was ready they laid out the table and called the men to join them. They had been toiling hard the whole day.
Everyone freshened up and gathered around the table to enjoy the small blessing Halri and the other village women had prepared for them.
Vegetable curry, boiled and seared potatoes, plus smoked salmon, along with some flatbread Cassandra had baked for them.
The aroma of the hot food in this cold weather was enticing to say the least. It made their mouths water and Faris was about to drool.
"Before we begin, I would like to say we are extremely thankful for the help and all the blessings you people have brought for us. Six of you are lifesavers, here’s to hoping you will find what you are looking for." Halri raised her wooden wine tankard and others did the same.
"Thank you, for inviting us into your home and cooking us such a delicious meal." Cassandra raised her tankard along with others before they started to eat.
Not only were they hungry from the day’s toils but everything was extremely scrumptious too.
"Let us know whatever you will need help with." Siroos piled up his plate with potatoes and meat.
Halri respectfully nodded as she picked Luca up into her lap and offered him a piece of bread.
"So where have you been for the past two hours?" Siroos averted his gaze and suspiciously eyed his brother now.
Faris, who was leisurely tearing into a piece of meat, suddenly stopped and guiltily sneaked a look towards Aiko. She was quietly eating her meal as if nothing had been asked.
"Well, I was feeding the horses and cleaning them up." It wasn’t a complete lie, he did tend to the horses, he just didn’t add the part where he and Aiko had sneaked out.
A sly smile appeared on the corner of Aiko’s lips. Her mate was a perfect crime partner for her and this moment revealed that very truth.
Faris heaved in relief when the topic of conversation shifted from him and Lotus became the center of attention.
Aiko slipped her hand under the table, placed it on Faris’s thigh, and squeezed.
The sudden touch made him almost yelp. It was an assuring kind of touch from her, not a seductive kind. To extend her gratitude for keeping her secret and yet his greediness got the better of him.
The itch for her to drag her hand slightly up and between his legs hardened his member and the piece of meat in his mouth became hard to swallow.
Aiko, on the other hand, didn’t attempt to remove it. Instead, she slowly rubbed his thigh with her left hand and continued to eat with her right hand, unperplexed and unperturbed.
He tried to lean forward and observe her expressions but her hair obscured her face from him. Even in such cold weather, he was about to break out in sweat, and if he wasn’t careful, he was going to have a big hard-on.
"You ladies did a commendable job with crops today," Aiko spoke, but not to her mate; she addressed Lotus and Cassandra. The latter answered while eating a spoonful of curry. It was spicy.
"That’s the least we could do but the results were satisfying."
"Luca’s father was an excellent craftsman; he built most of the houses in the village along with his friends; with him and others gone, we were lost. You people have given us hope again." Halri kissed the back of her son’s head who was busy watching Razial while holding onto a wooden toy horse.
He slowly slid down from his mother’s lap, dawdling on his tiny feet; he approached the commander. Razial sat near Lotus, eating the vegetable curry.
"Tank uu!" He said in his broken language and extended the tiny horse towards the commander with a cute smile on his round face.
His gesture made everyone freeze. Aiko retraced her hand while others stopped eating and stared at the happy boy.
Razial gladly smiled at the toddler and asked, pointing to himself.
"This is for me?"
The little boy nodded his head and asked, pointing to Razial’s long legs.
"Yes! Can I sit on lap?"
Halri’s eyes welled up with tears hearing her son’s request. Razial resembled her late husband, and Luca certainly was thinking along those lines.
"Of course! Come." Razial extended his hands and effortlessly picked Luca up. He settled him on his lap, and to everyone’s utter surprise, The little boy wrapped his tiny arms around him and rested his head on his chest, seeking peace.
