Reborn As Cursed Alpha's Mate
Chapter 206: A Village That Lacked Men

Chapter 206: A Village That Lacked Men

"Thank you!" Aiko raised herself on her toes and peppered a tiny kiss on his cheek before whirling away to join the ladies. Cassandra had asked her previously to get what she wished, but she had refused, now that her mate had offered her coins, she was more than happy to do it.

Faris stood stunned for a while, touching the tingling skin where his mate had kissed him as watched his mate happily shop. Her twinkling smile eased his heart and he stepped towards his brother.

While the ladies were busy shopping and mingling with the women of the village, Razial stayed as the bodyguard.

The brothers duo took a look around the half-deserted place.

An old man who walked with the help of a stick stumbled towards them guided by a younger woman.

The wrinkles on his face and the white glossy eyes spoke of the wisdom that lay inside of him. He stopped near them and faced Siroos. Judging by his demeanour the old man knew this indeed was the leader of the group.

He spoke wisely. "Greetings. Thank you for honouring us with your visit. We appreciate it, this year has been particularly tough."

Siroos tersely nodded at the old man.

"I can see that. Are the men on an expedition or hunting trip to bring back some food for the village?" From the looks of it, they had been gone a while.

The little light that shone in the old man’s eyes died out and the girl had to tighten her hold on his hand to keep him standing.

"The men of this village are gone. We were punished for trying to break free from Volsra."

Siroos’s shoulders tensed upon hearing the old man’s words. Faris’s smile vanished too.

"What do you mean? By whom?" Siroos abruptly asked.

The old man’s lips began to quiver, and his hands shook violently. He couldn’t bring himself to speak.

So the younger girl took the courage to answer them.

"They were all killed at the orders of Prince Kanyon and families were made to watch."

A rage-filled growl escaped Siroos’s chest hearing that wretched name and what he had done.

Faris’s mouth opened in horror at this horrendous piece of news. The dreary feeling this place carried now made sense. Death had knocked on every door there.

"He took my son...my only son." The old man battles tears.

"That wretched prince. I am deeply sorry for what he has done and the kind of damage he has caused. But for now, he is gone. I hope you can raise your next generation in peace." Siroos stepped forward and held the old man’s shoulders with his strong hands. He was shaking, tears swam in his eyes. The girl was silent crying at their predicament.

"He is? We heard some rumours that a dragon attacked the capital and that he is missing but we weren’t sure." A light of hope returned to the old man’s eyes. Siroos meaningfully smiled.

"You heard right. Rumours are true, he won’t be bothering you for now."

"That dragon destroyed the king’s castle giving them a medicine of what happens when they go against someone who can retaliate," Faris added, feeling proud of his brother but not revealing his identity.

The old man knew he could trust these men from the way they were being kind to him. "Bless the dragon. We just want to live in peace and for them to not take our daughters for their pleasures."

The truth shook both brothers. They had to protect these people from the wretched vampires.

"We will ensure they won’t before we leave." Siroos gave them further hope.

"If there is something we can do to help, please let us know." Faris graciously offered his services too.

"We do need some help with repairs and we seriously lack food to pass these winters. Any help in that regard will be highly appreciated. Join me at my home first."

The old man gestured towards a house in the distance. Siroos and Faris decided to head over there with him.

The old man was guided back by the young woman.

The ladies returned from their shopping with Razial and joined them. They began to follow.

"You got everything?" Siroos questioned.

"Yes! Did you find out about the situation here?" Cassandra slowly asked, leaning closer to her mate. His rigid posture and dangerously blazing eyes told her that whatever he had learnt was deeply disturbing.

Siroos spoke in a hushed voice and explained the situation to Razial and the ladies. While they were horrified Cassandra was set ablaze by these truths. She had witnessed his atrocities first-hand and regretted that she didn’t end his life when she had the chance.

"That wretched man. I can’t wait to come face-to-face with him again. He has destroyed so many lives." Cassandra’s body shook with rage so Siroos wrapped her in his arm and pulled her to him, leeching away all the darkness and rage that had weaved its way into her.

Aiko slowly spoke to Faris. "He is such a cruel man. He has wiped out villages like that."

Faris was already enraged and the thought of him killing Ara in cold blood invaded his brain again, making him close his eyes for a second and inhale deeply.

Kanyon had directly and indirectly affected their lives.

"We need to help these people more. We can’t leave them just like that." Lotus’s eyes wavered to this frozen village where people’s smiles had been frozen too. She was already formulating plans on how to help them.

They reached the old man’s house and he invited them inside the house. They settled in the small living space where a fire had been lit in an attempt to keep it warm.

"I don’t have much to offer but my daughter-in-law made some porridge. We would like to offer." He kindly smiled at them as the young lady settled him in his rickety rocking chair.

"Please! No, we just ate. Just tell us how we can help," Siroos answered, inspecting how the wooden walls had so many holes which needed to be repaired.

"The least I can do is make some tea." The younger woman disappeared into the kitchen as they began to discuss how and from where they were going to start.
