Reborn As Cursed Alpha's Mate -
Chapter 180: Advices For Faris
Chapter 180: Advices For Faris
Meanwhile, Cassandra finished reading the prophecy, and the drumming of her heart grew louder at the implications it held. A warmth birthed inside her spreading to her cheeks.
"The curse, the curse on us can be broken?" She asked in exasperation, turning to her mate. He was meaningfully smiling down at her, seeming exhausted from the lack of sleep but so hopeful.
"Yes! And there are going to be four other people besides the two of us. It seems like we will need to take a journey into The Grimhollow," Siroos answered, pulling away a stray streak of her hair.
The Unknown Lands, called "The Grimhollow", were beyond the four continents. Mythical and dangerous creatures, plus plants, dwelled there. People hardly set foot on those grounds.
It was a no man’s land, a place of darkness and mysteries. Mysteries beyond the imagination of races which lived on the four continents could be found there. Only the very brave of the heart dared to go there.
"Are you certain the tree would be there?" Cassandra asked, reading the part where the tree was mentioned, again.
"I am not certain, but it’s a mysterious tree, and I don’t think any of us have heard of something like that," Siroos thoughtfully answered.
"And we have figured out everyone except the last part. But I think I know who it is now," Faris repeated with a hint of pride in his voice.
"Who?" Ranon asked, he was leaning against the far wall now, with his hands behind his back.
Siroos’s hand halted as he threw a curious look at his brother.
Faris had slid down on the mattress, his long legs spread in front and his ankles casually crossed as he pointed at the paper in Cassandra’s hand.
"Read about the sixth member."
Cassandra began to read loudly.
"Last shall come the trickster, a girl of nimble fingers and a heart that beats for the downtrodden. Though she walks the path of shadows, her soul is not lost to darkness. A thief with a conscience, she shall steal away the chains of the curse, guiding others through these perilous paths."
As soon as Cassandra finished, Faris tittered.
"It’s Aiko. Fox spirits are considered tricksters as well. We had a detailed talk yesterday and she told me about her thieving habits. She used to steal from the rich using her ability and distribute the wealth between the poor," Faris explained, making others gasp with the revealing truth.
He continued.
"Although, she had walked in the shadows, meaning she worked with Kanyon and betrayed us. But all is not lost as she is trying to rewrite her wrongs and asking for forgiveness from the people she acted against. I think she will be very vital in our journey."
Cassandra read the part again after Faris’s explanation and it made sense. Her forehead slightly creased as she concentrated and Faris took that in a wrong sense.
Siroos rubbed his stubbled chin, his beard had grown, having gotten no time to get rid of his facial hair.
"That actually sounds about right. She is your mate, so I think she fits the description," Siroos wondered aloud.
Lana and Ranon were in deep thought, too. Seeing Cassandra stay quiet, Faris spoke. He knew how much his sister-in-law must have suffered due to the actions of his mate.
"SIL, if you are not comfortable with her, then I will refrain her from ever stepping closer to you. I know while you were in captivity, she tried to be kind to you, but it doesn’t take away the fact she contributed to causing you immense pain. I will stand by any decision you will take regarding her. Even if you don’t want her here, I will understand."
Cassandra always knew Faris had such a soft spot for her. He desperately sought in her what a brother does in a sister. Siroos was different; he was content with just Faris as a sibling, but the younger man wished for a feminine touch.
His small speech revealed how deeply he cared and cherished her and her opinions to a level where he was ready to even let his mate go.
"Oh! Faris." Cassandra swiftly reached out and placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "She was a victim too under Kanyon. He is a sick bastard, the most sadistic man I have ever met. I don’t even know how much he must have made Aiko suffer. She had no choice and I will never hold her decision to help him against her."
Cassandra smiled before speaking again.
"Recent events with Elders, Kela, Kanyon and Aiko have taught me a very valuable lesson. Sometimes our choices are snatched away and we are left to take harsh decisions. What happened between Siroos and Kela was not in Siroos’s hands and I shouldn’t have held my anger for that long. It made both of us suffer."
Cassandra sadly sighed, and Siroos pushed the tray away, which Lana quickly removed so he could have space to drag his mate into his loving arms.
Siroos couldn’t believe that Cassandra was self-blaming, so he made a mental note to speak to her on the matter later on.
Cassandra leaned into him, his chest never failing to bathe her in assuredness that they would get through every hurdle together. His scent had formed a hollow around her merging with her own as she spoke again.
"That’s exactly the case with you and Aiko. Her choices were taken; otherwise, she wouldn’t have betrayed you or worked with someone like Kanyon. I have seen the pure hatred that festered in her eyes for him. Don’t make the mistake I did, and push her away for too long."
Faris was still struggling on the matter of Aiko but Cassandra’s advice he took it to heart.
He smiled, putting his perfect teeth on display.
"The goddess has spoken on the matter, your advice will be heeded." Faris took a bow, dramatically bringing his hand forward.
Cassandra and Lana cackled at his gesture, they had missed him and his flamboyant ways.
The laughter seemed to be returning to their lives.
"So who is going to speak with Aiko on the matter?" Siroos asked, placing his bearded chin on Cassandra’s shoulder and facing his beta and his brother.
"I will do it, and then both of you can speak with her, too. It can be overwhelming for her, but SIL can strengthen her heart," Faris suggested, and it was approved that they would bring Aiko under the truth.
There was a permanent smile on his face, but his eyes still held traces of his dilemmas, which Cassandra picked up and asked.
"If there is something still bothering you, talk to us."
