Reborn As Cursed Alpha's Mate -
Chapter 148: Lotus Learns Of The Prophecy
Chapter 148: Lotus Learns Of The Prophecy
By the time Siroos had revealed every detail to Lotus, she was reeling. A tempest of rage had brewed inside her.
"So she has been suffering from the moment you took her away. You didn’t feel the need to tell us the truth, her the truth. And now she has been taken by an enemy whom no one saw?" Lotus stood up from her place in exasperation, clutching her face. Her power shot out of her in the form of hundreds of vines, crawling on the library floor, climbing the walls and the ceiling.
A few crept up on the bookshelves, toppling several books out of their shelves and plopped them to the ground, opening up and revealing their contents.
Some crawled towards Siroos, who flinched away just in time to avoid them getting tangled around his torso.
Faris leapt back too although they weren’t reaching out for him but they seemed quite deadly and could be painful.
The earth shook from the reverberation of her power as if she had lost complete control over it.
"Princess Lotus!" Razial frantically called out to her, rushing over and placing a reassuring arm around her shaking shoulders. She began to bawl. The tears of regret rolled out of her saddened eyes.
She reflected on her last meeting with her sister.
Cassandra’s reluctance to speak, their separate chambers, the way she reluctantly smiled. It all made sense to Lotus and she cursed herself for being so blind.
"I know I should have been transparent but I was desperate. It wasn’t my intention to hurt her in the process, but I ended up doing just that. I am going to do everything in my power to get her back," Siroos spoke, his desperation very visible in his voice.
Lotus slowly turned to face him, fresh tears like tiny pearls shone on her cheeks.
"Transparent? You turned my trust into a jest. Pain and suffering are all you gave her, like everyone else in her life. I am so disappointed, Alpha Siroos." Lotus glared at him, her chest heaved as Razial held her by the waist now, his hand resting on the small of her back.
Siroos was already drowning in guilt and every word Lotus had said was imbued with hurting truth.
"I know I have failed her and you. But give me one last chance. There is something you should see." Siroos’s eyebrows hunched together in deep regret but he gestured to his brother.
Faris, who had remained silent so far, extracted the parchment from his robe’s pocket on which Siroos had jotted down the prophecy. He laid it out on the table, swatting away the blackened vines that had crawled on the shining surface of the wood. He spoke boldly, facing both Lotus and Razial.
"Princess Lotus, my brother tried, he tried his damnedest best. He almost died trying, but when gods and fate are against you, there is not much which can be done. So forgive us, forgive him."
Lotus sniffled but she could see the dark clouds of regret circling both brothers. They were already filled with regrets. Faris spoke again.
"We have a chance now. Not all is lost. You should see this."
Lotus and Razial’s attention was diverted towards the crumpled parchment Faris had laid out on the table.
"What is it?" Lotus curiously asked, wiping away her tears with her nimble fingers and stepping closer to them. Razial followed, unable to hold himself back.
"A prophecy from Aylin; the moon goddess, on how to lift the curse. It involves six people and we think four of them are in this room," Faris explained in a serious tone, his hands landing palms down on the table covered in tarred branches.
Lotus finally clicked her fingers and retrieved her vines, clearing the table. She grabbed the paper while Razial quizzedly peered over her dainty shoulder to see what was written. Siroos and Faris expectantly watched.
With curious eyes, Lotus began to read. The more she read the more the creases on her forehead deepened in curiosity and amazement.
Her heart rate began to alleviate as her hands began to shake with every word that she read.
Once they were done reading, both of them glanced towards the brother duo with eyes agape, stunned out of their minds.
"My sister..... is a goddess...reborn?" Lotus stuttered for the first time in her life. She always knew Cassandra was special but this special, she wouldn’t have guessed.
No wonder her sister forgave others so easily.
"Goddess of love: Asara to be precise," Siroos answered in pride, a smile jotting down on his fuller lips. His chest heaved out a little.
"Can you imagine, Razial? My sister is the goddess of love." Lotus turned to the mage commander with her hand on her widened mouth and tears shimmering in her eyes. The salty water was illuminated by the cackling fire.
Razial was slightly dumbfounded at this piece of information and he could barely nod while speaking in broken words.
"That’s...enlightening. We never knew."
"My sister-in-law is amazing. She will be the salvation for us and we will be for her," Faris proudly declared, smiling for the first time since his arrival.
Siroos agreed with his brother with a swift nod.
"Both of us were cursed because we fell in love. While I was cursed to be reborn again and again without finding my mate, Cassandra seemed to have been reborn for the first time. Along with this, the Tree of Hope is supposed to be growing somewhere. I think that’s the key," Siroos answered, pointing to the paper again.
Lotus finally reeled in her scattered emotions and focused once again on the piece of sheet and perplexedly asked.
"Who made this prophecy? I know you said earlier your mother receives them but who is behind this?"
Siroos went on to explain everything they knew related to the prophecy along with the dream he had of Aylin. But he withheld the information where she had told him that they could be blessed with a child in the future. That was meant to be shared only with his mate.
"I see. So Aylin and Arkiam are Cassandra’s real parents," Lotus concluded.
"Seems like it," Siroos answered, clasping his hands together and placing his arms on the table.
"And these two people, you think this is me and this is Razial?"
Razial was still in shock at being part of a prophecy.
"Yes, we certainly believe that the clues point to both of you and at some point, we will have to take a journey together, but first, we need to find my mate." Siroos straightened up his back, sliding his hands back. He crossed his arm and rested his elbow on the table while rubbing his chin in deep thought.
"Well, I will go to the end of the world and beyond to find my sister and lift whatever curse has been placed on her. Razial will follow me. Won’t you?" Lotus asked, turning to the commander. She was testing his loyalty and he was quick to nod.
From his responses, she could infer that Razial, at this point, was more loyal to her than he was to her father.
"It said redemption and I am all in for it. I made too many mistakes in life. I failed Princess Cassandra if I could make this journey and be part of the process which sets her free. I am all in," Razial wholeheartedly said.
Siroos gave him an appreciative nod. The man was living up to his words.
"So walk me again on what the portal looked like and I might be able to narrow it down to the kind of mage who could be behind the abduction," Razial asked, pulling a chair and settling in it. Siroos began to explain what he had seen while Faris did the same.
"Hmm! So a fox shifter and a mage or a vampire working together to abduct Princess Cassandra. That fox shifter could be half-mage with magic to open portals. It’s an ancient magic, very unique and rare but not unheard of. The most intriguing part of this magic is, it can be shared with other people." Razial bunched his lips up as explained about portals and how they worked.
Siroos leaned in, all the muscles in his arms went taut at this piece of information. His eyes inked crimson as the dragon surfaced listening intently.
"How?" He questioned Razial. But it was Lotus who answered in the place of the commander.
"Through charmed objects. They can pour their magic into them and let others use it like people who don’t possess magic. I did it for Cassandra numerous times. That sword she used in the arena was imbued with my magic. And last time I visited your pack, I left her a pendant with a protection charm."
Listening to her words, Siroos reached around his neck and pulled out the pendant from the chain and said with a sigh.
"This one?"
