Reborn As Cursed Alpha's Mate
Chapter 136: The Dragon Awakens

Chapter 136: The Dragon Awakens

Cassandra was petrified from fear as a man suddenly appeared out of the portal amidst the cold mist. Walking lazily as if he had no care in the world. The eyes, so intense, like two glistening rubies, sharply focused directly on her.

The damp ebony hair hung loosely on his broad shoulders with a streak of carmine flowing through them like a stream of blood. The skin was smooth and pale, just like his teeth, which he had on display between his voluptuous bloodshot lips. The jawline defined by rugged angles, sharp at the edges.

Handsomely dangerous was the term which flashed in one’s brain while setting eyes on this man, clad in all-black attire with a red cape attached to his shoulders.

Both women had stood up but none of them could even blink as if frozen in time from unexplainable terror that had seeped into their flesh and poured into their very bones. It was a feeling Cassandra had never experienced before.

"Princess Cassandra, I might assume," his darkly rich voice, which made Cassandra’s knees shake, resonated all around her as his lips widened, making that savvy smile grip her heart in unspeakable ways.

"Who are you?" Cassandra tried to sound bold but her voice flatlined and almost stuck in her throat like dry bread without water. She reached for her dagger with her shaky hands but remembered she had left it inside the tent.

Ara was no different, she was shaking from head to toe as she made an effort and tried to cover her Luna and faced the mysterious man that had emerged.

"Stay back!" She said in a trembling voice and that sickly sweet smile he had going soured and withered like a rose left too long in the sun.

"Insignificant!" He casually waved his hand before Ara could shift into her wolf form, the silvery white thick threads shot out of his fingertips and wrapped around Ara’s throat, choking the life out of her.

"Stop!" Cassandra tried to shove the fear down which had her immobilised and lunged for the man, not caring she didn’t carry any weapons.

But he was lightning fast and moved like a blur, evading her.

The same wispy tendrils shot out again and wound around her legs and torso, binding her tightly in their hold, so she wouldn’t be able to move an inch.

"Stay! Be a smart girl." He flashed her that menacing smile, which sent not only chills but scuttling down her spine but poured buckets of fear over her whole body. The fears she didn’t even know existed crawled on her skin.

Turning her head, he made Cassandra watch as he squeezed the life out of Ara. One tendril sprouted a white hand with serrated fingers; it dug into Ara’s soft flesh, pushing past her ribcage and grabbing her rapidly beating heart.

Ara’s eyes bulged out like round pieces of bread rising in the oven. The only difference was the former was horrifying in the literal sense while the latter was soothing to watch.

"Nooo! Stop! Siroosss!" Cassandra screamed in a mixture of fear and helplessness. She had never encountered such power which had left her so helpless. Since she had wrapped the pendant around the dragon’s claw she had no protection.

The man tightened the grip of his materialised claw around Ara’s heart, staring into her dilated, fearful eyes, savouring the moment as he snuffed the life out of an innocent woman and jerked her heart out.

Cassandra’s world darkened the amalgamation of terror, horror and disbelief etched on every feature of her face. For a second, everything paused as she watched Ara go limp in silvery streaks, which moved as if they had a mind of their own. He hadn’t even touched her but snuffed the life out of her using only his strange powers. His hands were casually folded across his chest.

Before Cassandra could scream, his silvery strands sealed her mouth shut. Turning to her, he cocked his head and dropped the lifeless body of Ara on the ground.

Drawing that white claw made of those silvery threads he licked the blood from Ara’s heart, as some of it dropped on the ground below and was swallowed.

"Such a disappointing taste, and here I thought shifter blood would be mouth-watering." He casually discarded the heart and sauntered towards Cassandra on his long legs.

The silvery wisps seemed to have fire running through them now, the ones who had Cassandra in their hold. They had begun to glow from inside, the shade of amber, the shade of fire. Nearer he stepped to Cassandra and took in that luscious scent of hers the more his wisps illuminated.

If he had a heart inside his empty chest, it might have beaten rapidly at that moment.

Her delectable scent assaulted his nostrils and for a second, he froze, a fleeting emotion passing through his rich-red eyes. She struggled against the holds, watching him with a mixture of hate and disgust. It radiated off of her like tsunami waves and he could sense those emotions.

Before he could touch her, the tent behind her began to shake and a loud growl was heard. His eyes wavered to the tent, and he knew the dragon had woken.

"Time to go, broken butterfly." He waved his hand with a blue stone ring on his middle finger.

A portal opened again with a boundary which seemed to have been constructed from a white fire. It swirled like thick white semi-liquid; he walked inside it, dragging Cassandra behind him, attached to those fiery white streaks of his.

Cassandra’s neck slightly turned and the last she saw was the dragon rising out of the tent with a vicious growl as she was sucked into the portal.

Their eyes met.

Scared violet to the maddening red of the dragon as he rushed towards his mate.

Her cry for help was smothered in her throat as her mouth had been sealed shut.

But the portal closed behind her, plunging her world into darkness and leaving the dragon on the verge of madness.

His mate was taken.
