Chapter 1352: Chapter 5 Distress Signal! [Subscribe to the genuine version]
The 251 Star Zone, much like the many low-level star zones within the Genius Battlefield, remains insignificant regardless of how heavily war rages here. Even if certain forces in this fringe star zone are entirely wiped out, it fails to make any headlines.
This is the current situation of the Genius Battlefield. Even under the management of the battlefield’s official authority, slaughter still occurs, though it is merely hidden from view.
The birth of a genius has always been spurred by bloodshed. The officials of the Genius Battlefield do not lack the ability to intervene—they simply choose to turn a blind eye. After all, a starfield devoid of slaughter simply cannot exist within the Milky Way.
And today was no different from such a day.
"Er Tian’s Forces, didn’t we agree back then to clash again in six months? Why are you attacking my Wu Ci Power now?"
"Heh, if you count the time, it’s almost there anyway. Besides, we recently noticed your Wu Ci Power preparing to flee. If we hadn’t come to stop you, you might already have escaped, wouldn’t you?"
"Exactly. That Jia Yan fled long ago, and now you’re also preparing to run for your lives. Are we wrong? If you wish to tear up the agreement, then don’t blame us for coming to annihilate Wu Ci Power."
Amid the starry sky, countless monsters were bombarding a massive celestial body.
This celestial body was roughly several kilometers in size, and on its surface, a transparent force field was barely holding off external assaults. However, this transparent barrier was now trembling violently, as though it might collapse within minutes if no external assistance arrived.
Outside this celestial body, the attackers included several Semi-permanent Star Level Monsters, dozens of Secondary Powerhouses, and an ample number of Dignitary-level geniuses.
Among the attackers, some used battleships, while others relied on their own raw strength. A single Semi-permanent Star Level creature might not possess the power to breach this celestial body’s defense, but when their number swelled to dozens or even hundreds, the resulting assault became immensely horrifying.
Inside the celestial body, a handful of Secondary Powerhouse geniuses gathered around a Semi-permanent Star Level powerhouse, their faces etched with worry.
"Lord Behalf, what do we do now?"
One Secondary Powerhouse, looking ashen-faced, gazed toward the Semi-permanent Star Level creature, his expression utterly terrified. After all, his strength ranked among the weaker Secondary Powerhouses in the 251 Star Zone. Among the attackers currently laying siege to them, at least half could kill him with ease.
The same anxious expressions were mirrored on the faces of the other Secondary Powerhouses.
In the Genius Battlefield, it wasn’t always about battles of genius; the shadows also concealed grim realities. Cruel and inhumane massacres were not uncommon.
Forces at the fringes—a weak region—might have had it slightly better compared to the Central Star Area, but even here, slaughter persisted. And now, it was unfolding before their very eyes, against their own beleaguered force!
"Er Tian’s Forces have gone too far! Hold on a little longer; I’ve already sent a message to Lord Wolf Star. Reinforcements should be here soon."
Behalf kept glancing at the energy levels of the defensive shield surrounding Wu Ci Power’s celestial body while halfheartedly attempting to encourage his subordinates.
In truth, he didn’t believe Wolf Star would actually come.
Out in the starry void, everything revolved around benefits. If Wu Ci Power had cultivated a powerful enough genius, perhaps Wolf Star might have intervened. But now, with Jia Yan’s fate unknown, it was unlikely Wolf Star would risk clashing with Er Tian’s Forces on behalf of Wu Ci Power.
"My Lord, I told you long ago, don’t count on running away. What do we do now? Sure enough, Er Tian’s Forces have taken the first shot at us."
A Secondary Powerhouse said resentfully to Behalf.
Behalf fell silent for a moment.
The current situation was, in truth, entirely the result of Behalf and the other Secondary Powerhouses. When Jia Yan left the 251 Star Zone, Wu Ci Power still had a few strong figures supporting him. But as time passed, some Dignitaries began speculating: Had Jia Yan already fled, knowing he couldn’t defeat King Er?
Eventually, Wu Ci Power’s collective stance began to shift. Even Behalf, swayed by his subordinates’ constant grumbling, grew increasingly doubtful.
With Jia Yan absent for so long, they opted for a final fallback plan: moving their entire force to a neighboring star zone, where another power might take them under their wing. However, as part of this new power, Wu Ci Power would lose all independence.
Still, that would surely be better than extinction.
But somehow, this information had been leaked. Without any warning, Er Tian’s forces had arrived in full strength to lay siege.
"There’s no other choice now but to hold firm. I finally understand—our biggest mistake was recruiting Jia Yan. So this is what they mean by a harbinger of disaster."
"Precisely! Whose idea was it to take him in again? They even said he was a genius! And now, look where that’s gotten us—Wu Ci Power on the brink of annihilation. Three centuries of existence, nearly wiped out today."
Several of the Secondary Powerhouses grumbled angrily about Jia Yan, casting frequent reproachful glances toward Behalf as they spoke.
After all, their greatest resentment was directed at Behalf. Though recruiting Jia Yan had been a collective decision, it was Behalf who had elevated Jia Yan’s position within Wu Ci Power. Now, with Jia Yan having fled after stirring up trouble, Behalf bore the brunt of their blame.
"Enough! Spare me your accusations. I’ll send a message to Er Tian’s Forces myself. If sacrificing my life can save Wu Ci Power, I won’t hesitate."
Behalf cut off their complaints abruptly.
Even as he spoke, a deep disappointment settled in his heart. He knew his moral authority was insufficient to command loyalty. But he hadn’t anticipated that, at such a critical moment, his subordinates would collectively turn against him.
"Sigh. If we manage to survive this disaster, perhaps I’ll leave and wander the stars." Behalf thought despondently, finally understanding why the stronger figures in Wu Ci Power often chose to leave. Wu Ci Power had fallen from its once-promising position to become the bottom of the barrel in the 251 Star Zone—not without reason.
Truly, pitiful people have their own failings.
BOOM!
As Behalf brooded in sorrow, a deafening explosion erupted within the celestial body.
"The Number Three Active Power Furnace is destroyed! Defensive energy levels have dropped to near-zero—it won’t last another minute, at best!"
A Secondary Powerhouse saw the data flash across a monitor and shouted in panic.
"Deactivate the energy shield! I’ll rush out and buy you time to escape!"
With a swift motion, Behalf’s venom-filled form shifted into battle mode, his expression hardened with resolve.
Though merely one of the weakest in the Genius Battlefield, he considered himself capable of taking down his fair share of foes at the same level.
Even as Behalf shouted these words, a massive, streaking beam of light raced across the distance, hurtling toward the battleground at lightning speed.
This vast light form was an extremely advanced, faster-than-light spacecraft. Inside the vessel, a pitch-black creature with a sleek, elongated proboscis calmly observed the cosmic scene before him from the bridge.
"When I returned to Wu Ci Power’s original location, it was completely abandoned. I suppose they’ve relocated already?"
This creature, lost in contemplation, was none other than the Giant Mosquito, Jia Yan.
Previously, Jia Yan had sought out Wu Ci Power’s former headquarters, only to find the base entirely empty. Even after searching nearby mining areas, he found not a single trace of life.
This left Jia Yan puzzled. Wu Ci Power had promised to await his return. Even if they fled to the designated star zone to seek refuge, they should have left a message or signal for him. But Jia Yan had received nothing.
"I hope nothing terrible has happened."
After all, Behalf had treated Jia Yan well, and Jia Yan had gained much from Wu Ci Power’s resources. He sincerely hoped the force hadn’t been annihilated.
The Adisa, accelerating rapidly, flew across the boundless cosmos like an arrow loosed from its bow.
"Master, the Adisa has intercepted a curious signal."
Suddenly, the Adisa’s AI spoke, addressing Jia Yan.
"What kind of signal?"
Jia Yan’s heart skipped a beat, his gaze shifting toward the vessel’s AI interface.
"It’s an open distress signal from some force directed to Wolf Star—though it doesn’t specify which force. It seems they lack a direct line of communication with Wolf Star, so they’ve broadcast this message widely."
"What? A plea for aid to Wolf Star?"
Jia Yan urged the Adisa to play the message, and after reviewing its contents, his heart grew heavy with realization.
"Hurry! It must be Wu Ci Power. Let’s head there immediately to investigate!"
At Jia Yan’s command, the Adisa reversed direction in the void of space, its speed leaving most battleships in the 251 Star Zone far behind as it shot toward the signal’s origin like a bolt of lightning.
The distress signal was vague, offering no specifics about the nature of the crisis. Jia Yan couldn’t be entirely sure it was Wu Ci Power’s plea for help. However, buried in the message’s subtleties, he found hints pointing to Wu Ci Power. With nothing to lose by investigating, Jia Yan chose to pursue this lead.
Meanwhile, Wu Ci Power’s situation grew increasingly dire.
As the protective shield teetered on the brink of collapse, a Semi-permanent Star Level creature abruptly shot out from the celestial body, aiming directly for one of the attackers of the same level.
"Haha! Behalf, you’ve finally dared to show yourself."
The creature, seeing Behalf charging toward it, let out a triumphant laugh.
Behalf’s long, slender body lashed out at the Semi-permanent Star Level creature. However, its opponent was clearly stronger. As Behalf’s attack approached, the creature smoothly dodged before landing a retaliatory kick squarely on Behalf’s torso.
Blood sprayed from Behalf’s body as it floated in the interstellar void.
"Heh. You may have injured me, but you’re now poisoned." Behalf, his voice faint and weak, looked at the Semi-permanent Star Level enemy before him, a cold smirk tugging at his lips.
This was Behalf’s plan: even if it meant sustaining severe injuries, he was determined to inflict significant casualties on the Semi-permanent Star Level geniuses besieging Wu Ci Power. Perhaps that would give the lives within Wu Ci Power a slim chance at escape.
Thank you to a reader for the reward. I couldn’t catch the name, my apologies.
