Chapter 38: Level Up and Let Go
In front of Corven was nothing but empty air, his rapier slicing through the space where the shadow had just been. It vanished without a sound.
"What was that? An illusion from the drink? A test?" Corven muttered, still gripping the weapon tightly, eyes scanning the now-settled room.
He glanced at the blade. "As for this... guess I’ll keep it. Feels like a waste of blood to just throw it away." He walked over and leaned the rapier carefully against the nearest wall.
"You can create bone weapons?" Rose’s voice echoed from across the room. She was already walking along the far side, her expression curious.
"Yeah, I got it after we won the bets," Corven replied casually.
Rose’s ears perked up slightly, and a grin tugged at her lips. "It won’t be too much to ask for my own weapon, right?" she asked, her index fingers tapping together in a teasing gesture.
"You act like a light switch sometimes." He couldn’t help but laugh.
"Isn’t it more fun that way?" Rose shot back without missing a beat.
"Definitely." Corven chuckled again, stretching his arms overhead. His body had already begun healing, the residual aches and impact fading slowly.
"What weapon—" He started to ask but stopped. The words cut off mid-sentence as his energy dipped and the adrenaline from the fight drained all at once.
The crash hit both of them.
The blood’s effects returned full force, like a wave slamming over their heads—drunken haze, emotional overload, and overwhelming heat all crashing in at once.
Whatever had dulled during the fight, came roaring back twice as hot.
"Guess... that has to wait," Corven said with a tired laugh, stumbling toward the bed.
He braced himself on the edge, leaning forward, catching his breath. The red hue of the lighting washed over his skin, deepening the atmosphere with a quiet, building intensity.
Rose wasn’t doing much better. She stumbled to the other side of the bed and dropped onto it, her chest rising and falling with heavy breaths.
"I almost forgot why we came up here in the first place..." she muttered, licking her lips slowly as her gaze locked onto him.
Their magical clothes began reacting. The fabric shimmered slightly, trembling as if unsure of what form to take, emotions overriding command. The material started to soften and liquify in slow, deliberate waves.
"Didn’t you want this? What are you waiting for?" Rose asked, her voice low. She crawled across the mattress toward him, her heart pounding fast enough to echo in her ears.
Corven ran a hand through his hair, trying to stabilize himself. His pupils were fully glazed now, vision soft and hazy, his sanity slipping further away by the second.
"And I thought the effects were strong before... they got even stronger after that fight," he mumbled, voice thick, breath uneven.
He tugged at his collar, trying to cool down, but the heat was already everywhere. It wrapped around him like fire, his crimson pupils glowing faintly in the dim red light.
He glanced up, intending to check on Rose.
But she was already there. Her face was just inches from his, hovering above him on all fours with a playful smirk on her lips.
"Still holding together?" she asked, voice sultry.
Behind her, her magical dress was already shifting. The shape of it changed, smooth lines pulling inward, straps appearing, material thinning and reconfiguring—
Into lingerie.
Corven froze. His breath caught in his throat for a beat before he swallowed hard.
"Not at all," he admitted honestly, voice hoarse. "But I guess I shouldn’t fight it. I’m the one who asked for this, after all."
"Then come on," Rose whispered, her tone like velvet. "There’s space for one more. And only one more."
Her face was fully bathed in red now, more flushed than she had been even in the cave. Her body trembled with anticipation, every movement slow and intentional.
’Guess I’m losing my v-card here...’
’Thank you, system, I guess...’
Corven slowly pushed himself upright, standing at the edge of the bed as if steadying himself before a fall.
’This is happening. Might as well enjoy it.’
