Chapter 995: Chapter 995: Reuniting with an Old Friend
Hu Dongxiong personally came to pick up Luo Qiao.
Because school was starting in a few days, Luo Qiao didn’t have time to stay longer, so as soon as she saw him, she went straight to the point, "Help me get in touch with them; I want to visit."
Hu Dongxiong opened the car door, letting her in, "I’ve already made an appointment for you. You can rest for the day; the meeting is arranged for noon tomorrow at Jinyuan Garden."
Luo Qiao nodded, "That works. How’s the land we acquired shaping up?"
Hu Dongxiong drove as he spoke, "We’ve managed to tidy up half of it. The tree seedlings that were delivered a few days ago have all been planted, and the remainder will probably be sorted out in a little over a month."
Luo Qiao said, "Planning is of the utmost importance. I’ve mentioned this before. In the future, we will select some bases for garden tourism, so the overall planning must be done well. It’s best to find professionals to guide us."
Hu Dongxiong nodded, "Recently, we encountered a retired employee from a landscape design institute. We promptly hired him to create our overall plan and have already communicated our requirements to him, and the complete design should be out in these few days."
Hearing this, Luo Qiao felt completely reassured; the district managers could now stand on their own.
The next day, Luo Qiao got up early. She had found a good spot yesterday for meditation and after meditating, she practiced a set of boxing. Then she returned to her accommodation to take a shower and change clothes.
Just as she got ready, Hu Dongxiong arrived, "President Luo, I’ll take you for breakfast."
The two drove to a breakfast restaurant. Hu Dongxiong ordered rice cakes and soy milk. The rice cakes were crunchy, salty, and fresh; they tasted quite good with the soy milk.
After breakfast, they drove to the newly acquired land. People were already working there. Part of the land had fruit trees planted, and a third was yet to be cultivated.
Following her stroll, Luo Qiao made some general planning instructions and told Hu Dongxiong to communicate with the landscape designer as soon as possible, to save the designer the trouble of having to redo work.
Seeing it was about time, Luo Qiao went back to the hotel to change clothes and then left for the arranged meeting place with Hu Dongxiong.
Upon their arrival, they were invited to a private room. Not long after, a server came in, "Hello, have some tea for now. The gentleman who booked the private room will arrive shortly."
Luo Qiao was now very curious; she genuinely couldn’t remember doing anything significantly helpful for others.
About twenty minutes later, the server helped open the door, "Guests, please come in."
Luo Qiao and Hu Dongxiong looked toward the door and stood up as a matter of courtesy. A middle-aged man entered first, whom Luo Qiao did not recognize.
But as soon as the middle-aged man came in, he reached back to help the people behind him, "Dad, Mom, come on in."
Following his voice, Luo Qiao glanced out and was startled for a moment. When they walked in, she exclaimed, "Grandpa Lin, Grandma Lin, what brings you here?"
Grandma Lin smiled kindly, "Luo Qiao, long time no see."
Luo Qiao had not expected the visitors to be the Old Couple of the Lin family from Qingshan Village. She came forward from her seat, "It’s been a long time. It looks like your hardships have paid off."
Grandpa Lin was now in much better health than before and smiled, nodding at Luo Qiao, gesturing to the middle-aged man beside him, "Luo Qiao, this is my son, Lin Xiangyang, but he goes by Chang Qing now. He works at the municipal government."
The excitement and pride in the old man’s voice were apparent as Luo Qiao nodded with a smile, "Hello, I’m Luo Qiao."
After the introductions, Luo Qiao invited them to sit, "Please, have a seat, then we can talk."
Once everyone was seated, Chang Qing settled his parents and looked at Luo Qiao, "Luo Qiao, thank you for the help you gave my parents. Without your assistance, I might never have had the chance to find them and care for them."
Luo Qiao quickly waved her hand, "Don’t say that, I merely did what I could."
Yet Chang Qing stood up and gave Luo Qiao a deep bow, "No, I’ve heard everything from my parents. Without your help that early spring, they might not have survived. My father might not even be here if it hadn’t been for you, and you even covered the medical expenses. I, Chang Qing, will always remember this kindness."
Before Luo Qiao could respond, Chang Qing added, "Today, I just wanted my parents to meet an old friend, so I didn’t bring the rest of the family. Tomorrow, I will hold a banquet at my house; please don’t decline the invitation."
Grandma Lin took Luo Qiao’s hand, "Luo Qiao, please come. Visit us at home, so next time you’ll know the way, and come see me whenever you have some time. We originally didn’t want to come, thinking we’re already old, but since your Uncle Chang Qing is working here and worried about us back in the countryside, we had to move here with him."
With hopeful eyes, Grandma Lin persuaded Luo Qiao, who ultimately agreed to come.
The server poured tea for everyone and then left.
It was from Grandma Lin’s story that Luo Qiao learned Chang Qing had only found them last spring and brought them to live here from their hometown.
