Chapter 990: Chapter 990: Numerous Mechanisms, Mission Accomplished

Thirty people participated in this mission, including the couple as non-official members, who traveled by truck to the airport and flew directly to the vicinity of the target location.

After disembarking, each person grabbed a backpack prepared with ten days’ worth of provisions before switching to cars to reach the base of the mountains, from where they continued on foot into the depths of the woodland.

This time, Luo Qiao’s role was to ensure that any injuries sustained during the mission could be treated promptly. Being knowledgeable in traditional medicine, she could make full use of the medicinal herbs in the forest, as there was limited space in the backpacks and carrying too much could hinder their movement.

Luo Qiao was chosen for two reasons, first because she was proficient in both Western and Chinese medicine, and second because she was physically capable, and they had conducted an investigation before seeking her out.

After entering the deep forest, Lu Yichen walked alongside Luo Qiao who had impressed everyone with her performance over the past two days. They had initially worried her stamina wouldn’t suffice and would consequently impede the mission.

Unexpectedly, not only was her physical strength remarkable, but so was her adeptness.

Three days after entering deep into the mountains, they encountered a small troop.

After scouting, they learned these individuals were patrolling from their base, and to prevent any chance of them sending messages back, they had to overpower them swiftly and ensure they couldn’t fire their flare guns.

Otherwise, a shot from a flare gun would alert everyone at the base of their presence, complicating the completion of their mission, and they could even risk being ambushed.

While discussing their strategy, Luo Qiao was observing the wind direction and then used their binoculars to assess the number and movements of their adversaries.

Half a day later, Luo Qiao suggested, "If we can stealthily reach the slope above them, I can administer a sleeping drug, allowing us to capture them effortlessly and silently."

Unexpectedly, Luo Qiao spoke up, and after discussing with the team leader and deputy, they considered trying her plan.

Thus, a group escorted Luo Qiao to the opposite slope, while another group, after receiving the antidote from her, semi-encircled the enemy.

When Luo Qiao and her team reached a higher spot, they saw the group wasn’t small; they were also handling a lot of hunting prey, probably caught while patrolling.

Fearing discovery, they crawled rather than walked over.

Once in position and worried about a change in wind direction, Luo Qiao, not resting, pulled out the potent sleeping drug she prepared earlier. She checked the time and then used the binoculars for a final observation.

She and Lu Yichen crawled another twenty meters forward before employing her special ability to disperse the powdered drug. Half an hour later, movements below followed; about a dozen people were captured.

After confiscating their weapons, they used ripped clothing to gag the enemies and ropes from their backpacks to tie them up. Not far down the slope, they found a naturally-forming cave where they brought all the captives.

They fed an antidote to one prisoner and once he regained consciousness, took him deep into the cave for interrogation. After the interrogation—and rendering him unconscious again—they rotated, interrogating several others and learning the specifics about their stronghold.

Knowing the enemy troops took five days for a full patrol, and that they had just left the base that day, they decided to act quickly. For safety, Luo Qiao increased the drug dosage to ensure they were asleep for at least a day and night, leaving two team members to guard them.

Two men were sent back to arrange for local forces to pick up the captives. Following the details from the interrogation, they would guide troops in formation for reinforcement.

Three days later, they reached the enemy base, and after surveilling for a day and a night, formulated a plan. Certainly, the base had medically trained personnel.

Had Luo Qiao not joined them, they likely would have faced total annihilation, which explained why previous missions failed.

Along the way, several traps caused injuries, but thanks to Luo Qiao’s timely treatment, everyone survived.

The journey was fraught with myriad traps and barriers, leaving Luo Qiao to lead since the area possibly harbored various toxic plants, which seemed too strategically placed to have grown naturally, preventing ordinary access.

This mission was indeed grueling; despite their utmost caution and precision, two men still suffered injuries—one to a leg, another to his back. Luo Qiao used the medical facilities of the base to perform surgeries on them.

Five days later, the location was taken over by local forces, marking their successful completion of the mission. They then withdrew.

Upon their return to Capital City, precisely half a month later, both arrived at midnight. The following day, when their kids saw them, they shrieked and hurled themselves, crying "waah" when picked up, tears streaming down as the sight of their parents’ bandaged arms overwhelmed them.
