Chapter 897: Chapter 897: Obsessing Over Trivial Details

Several dishes on the dinner table today were specially made for Luo Qiao. Gu Qianru even placed those dishes right in front of Luo Qiao.

The women chatted about family matters, while the men discussed current events, all enjoying a harmonious family atmosphere.

After three rounds of drinks, perhaps having consumed a bit too hastily, Lu Xinyi set down his wine glass and slowly said, "Now that Yichen’s family is expecting a baby, I can rest easy about my second child too. When I pass on and meet Tao Ran, I’ll have something to account for. I’m content."

Hearing this, Lu Yixuan felt a bittersweet taste in his heart, "Dad, it’s all in the past. There are still good days ahead. We have to look forward."

Old Master Gu also added, "Tao Ran’s death wasn’t your fault. I know you were hit hard after she passed, but so many years have gone by, the great vengeance has been avenged, and it’s time you let go."

Lu Xinyi nodded and took another drink, "You’re right, it’s time to let go."

No one knew the hardships he had endured all these years. He had not known that Tao Ran’s death was connected to the Luo Family, treating Luo Ziming as a brother and benefactor. That’s why, a few years after Tao Ran’s departure and upon his persuasion, he remarried Geng Mingli.

But only after forming a new family did he realize that there were things he simply couldn’t do. Since they both had their own children, they might as well become a couple in name only.

What nobody expected though was that there was an unknown side to the story; they were merely pawns of Luo Ziming. Although Geng Mingli didn’t know this in advance, after all the incidents that occurred.

It was impossible for them to live under the same roof again, and since they both got what they needed from the arrangement, it was just as well that it ended. Now she could face Tao Ran’s grave with a clear conscience.

What he hadn’t expected was that Tao Ran was killed because of that treasure, which she hadn’t even been aware existed prior to her death—the donated items were proof of her wrongful death.

Tao Ran only knew from her mother-in-law that she must hide the jade pendant well. It was a family heirloom, shrouded in secrets unknown to others.

Having drunk a little too much without realizing it, he felt some resentment toward his mother-in-law. Why hadn’t she disposed of that jade pendant earlier? Why pass it down to Tao Ran? If it weren’t for the secret of the jade pendant, Tao Ran wouldn’t have been in trouble.

After dinner was finished and Lu Xinyi had drunk too much, he was helped to bed, still murmuring, "It was that jade pendant that caused harm to Tao Ran. Bring back my Tao Ran."

Fearing that the old master would be distressed to hear these words, Lu Yixuan promptly closed the door to the room.

Luo Qiao hadn’t returned home recently. She took out a bottle of Nourishing Pills from her bag, "Grandpa, let me check your pulse to see how your body has adjusted over this period."

Master Gu extended his hand, "I haven’t had those insomnia or palpitations recently, and my body feels much stronger than before."

After checking his pulse, Luo Qiao nodded and said, "Continue taking these Nourishing Pills. You can stop when winter comes, and then I will write you a few dietary therapy prescriptions."

Master Gu laughed, "I don’t even need to use a cane when I go out now. After taking the pills you prescribed, my legs feel less heavy. You all can rest assured."

Lu Yixuan was worried about his dad, so he asked his wife Wang Xiaoxin to take the kids back to school, while he stayed behind.

Lu Yichen and his elder brother stepped aside, "When he wakes up, try talking some sense into him. I’m also concerned he might become obsessively fixated on it."

Lu Yixuan patted his brother’s shoulder, "I know, we need to give him some time."

Luo Qiao set down the seasonal clothes she prepared for Stone and Taifeng. Gu Qianru playfully scolded, "Just take good care of yourself and the baby in your belly. Wouldn’t I still provide them with clothes?"

Luo Qiao smiled, "These were prepared earlier. I brought them along since I was coming over today."

After chatting for a while longer, she and Lu Yichen left the Gu family home.

As they drove away from the Gu family home toward the Luo Family, Luo Qiao looked at Lu Yichen, "Brother Chen, what was with dad today?"

"After knowing the cause of mom’s death, he’s been brooding a little. He blames grandma for passing that harmful jade pendant to mom and is fixating on it."

"Ah, who would have thought a careless word when drunk would doom an entire family? But mom really did have reason to resent; she didn’t even know the function of the jade pendant before she was wronged."

"At this point, talking about those things is useless. Qiaoqiao, if it weren’t for you, that jade pendant would still be a mystery, and who knows how many more people those men would harm, or if our family would follow in mom’s footsteps. You really are my savior."

Luo Qiao coquettishly said, "Then you have to treat me even better from now on."

"Mm, I’ll cherish you on top of my heart for a lifetime."

Listening to this, Luo Qiao laughed out loud, while Lu Yichen watched his wife’s laughter but took the promise to heart and remained true to it for the years to follow.

When they arrived at the Luo Family’s place, they saw Siyuan pushing a cart, helping grandfather transport water to the vegetable garden at the back, "Big Brother, what are you doing?"

Stopping the cart, Luo Siyuan replied, "Grandpa sowed some vegetable seeds, and I’m taking some water over to water them."
