Chapter 889: Chapter 889: Taking Action in an Emergency

The driver loudly alerted the people in the car that someone was blocking the road, and quickly tried to close the door, but unfortunately, it was a step too late. One of the roadblockers extended a steel fork into the car, jamming the door.

Luo Qiao, who had been sleeping groggily, woke up to the driver’s shout, and saw three hoodlum-like young men standing below, who were shouting and confronting the driver.

The team leader walked over, trying to help the driver close the door, but the man below still had his steel fork stuck in the gap of the door.

The team leader said to the driver, "You go and drive, I’ll hold the door."

At that moment, some male members of the medical team stood up and moved towards the team leader, trying to prevent those blocking the road from succeeding, knowing the consequences of letting these people on board were unthinkable.

Just as the driver had turned around, the man outside exerted force, and the steel fork stabbed into the driver’s right leg, immediately causing blood to flow profusely from a large wound, and there were no medical supplies available inside the car.

Luo Qiao quickly used her handbag as a cover, took out the hemostatic powder she had made herself, and moved forward. Seeing that the few men still wanted to break the windows, Luo Qiao had someone help the driver to the back and took the driver’s seat herself.

Seeing a hammer by the side of the driver’s seat, she pulled it out and handed it to a male doctor who had come from the back, "Take this, hammer out his steel fork, quickly."

The male doctor, who had also been educated in the village, was strong. Possibly the people outside had not expected someone to hammer at the steel fork. Shocked, they loosened their grip, and at this moment, Luo Qiao cautioned those pushing the door to be careful of the steel fork.

The engine was still running, Luo Qiao hit the gas pedal, stepped on the clutch, shifted gears, and drove forward. The people below had not expected the injured driver could still drive the car away. Whatever their intentions, fearing for their own safety, they all stepped aside.

Only after the car had driven a good distance did the people inside finally breathe a sigh of relief. No one had expected such an event on the road, and even less had they anticipated Luo Qiao stepping up at the critical moment, let alone driving.

Once they reached a safe place, Luo Qiao stopped the car, allowing everyone to get out, stretch, and relax a bit.

The team leader approached Luo Qiao and said, "Luo Qiao, I am truly grateful for what you did today. No one expected such an incident, and even less that you could drive. I’ll be sure to commend you for this when we get back."

Luo Qiao stood up, "Team leader, please don’t say that, I’m glad I could help."

A nurse in the front row looked at Luo Qiao with admiring eyes, "Dr. Luo, when did you learn to drive?"

Luo Qiao smiled faintly, "I got my driving license before I went to university, but I seldom drive. I was just in a hurry today. I hope it didn’t scare you."

The nurse waved her hand hastily, "You are amazing! If it weren’t for you, we might have been in trouble today."

Thinking of those who had blocked the road, Luo Qiao frowned and said, "I don’t know who those people were, they certainly were bold."

The team leader looked serious, "A few miles ahead, there should be a public phone. We should go there and call the police, at the very least to have the local police check it out, to prevent future incidents for other vehicles."

After finishing his talk, the team leader looked at Luo Qiao, "Dr. Luo, the driver can’t drive now because of his leg injury, we might need to trouble you to drive the rest of the way, what do you think?"

Just then, someone in the back said, "Team leader, it’s still a five to six-hour drive back to Capital, can Dr. Luo handle it? There are so many people in the car, this is no child’s play."

No sooner had these words fallen than everyone turned to look at the person who had spoken. Did this person have a problem? Luo Qiao had driven well all this way. Moreover, if they didn’t use Luo Qiao, where could they find another driver?

Unless they asked Capital City to send someone else, but even then, whether they could return to Capital City today was still uncertain.

The team leader glared at the person who had spoken, "Always you with the issues. If you are scared, you can get off and take a bus back to Capital; we will reimburse your bus fare."

This person had been causing unnecessary trouble for others in the medical team for over a month now.

Sister Qin also chimed in at this point, "Why didn’t you speak up earlier, and now you create problems."

Seeing everyone against her, the person said defensively, "I didn’t say much, only that it might not be safe for her to drive. She herself mentioned she got her license before university and doesn’t drive often. Aren’t you guys even a little bit worried with so many people in the car?"

Luo Qiao stood up from the driver’s seat, "Okay, since you are so worried, I won’t drive any longer. If something goes wrong, I indeed wouldn’t be able to bear the responsibility."

Then she returned to her original seat.

This left both the troublemaker and the other passengers dumbfounded. The troublemaker had intended to discomfort Luo Qiao, who was popular, by challenging her, but did not expect Luo Qiao to give up driving altogether, which made her look even worse in everyone’s eyes.

After those who had stepped out for a break returned and sensed the awkward atmosphere, after understanding the reason, they looked toward the troublemaking woman, murmuring quietly, "No capability but always stirring up trouble, what was she even thinking?"

The driver’s leg injury was not minor, and since it was his right leg, driving was out of the question. With no village nearby to seek help and needing a phone to call Capital City, the team leader felt uncomfortable asking Luo Qiao again.

Luo Qiao knew the woman was intentionally causing trouble, but her point wasn’t entirely wrong. Though Luo Qiao’s skills were adequate, others might not know it. It had been an emergency situation earlier, but now if everyone allowed her to drive again, it wouldn’t be too late, thus avoiding problems later.
