Chapter 864: Chapter 864 This is Not a Good Habit
Lu Yichen didn’t tell Lu Xinyi about going to Shanghai, and he couldn’t be too clear over the phone for fear of being stopped, so he just asked him to come and see his grandfather, called in to ask for leave from the office, and arranged things.
Then he handed the phone to Luo Qiao so she could ask for leave because she was afraid she wouldn’t make it back before the surgery scheduled for the weekend, so Luo Qiao called both the hospital and Professor Chang.
After everything was set, the two of them left the Gu family home without even having time for a meal.
By the time they reached the train station, ticket checking had already started. They found their cousin-in-law, got the tickets, and Luo Qiao handed over the preserved fruits she had taken out of her space in advance: "Give these to my cousin’s kid."
Zhang Haiming laughed and said, "You do this every time, and I feel a bit embarrassed, but the stuff you give really is exceptionally delicious. Sometimes Zhang Chao even asks me when Auntie will come to our place. He misses your treats, and because of this, your cousin and I have received quite a few cold looks from your cousin."
Luo Qiao smiled: "I’ll come visit him when I have the time."
The pair didn’t linger and hurriedly went to check their tickets and board the train.
Watching the two walk away, someone spoke up from behind: "Haiming, is that your sister-in-law?"
Zhang Haiming looked back: "Yes, that’s her and her husband next to her."
The person remarked: "Truly a handsome couple."
Turning to see what Zhang Haiming was holding: "What’s that?"
Zhang Haiming replied: "It’s something I’ve prepared for my son."
He couldn’t directly say it was food, else he couldn’t be sure to keep it, and casually, as if it was nothing, tucked the items safely into a locker.
After boarding the train, they found their bunks. Zhang Haiming had bought two lower berth tickets for them. When they boarded, there were no other passengers in their compartment, so Luo Qiao, using her handbag as a shield, took out two meals and a porcelain jar filled with potato and chicken chunks: "Hurry and eat."
By the time they reached Langfang, a family of three boarded, and by then some passengers were already lying down to rest. Luo Qiao held a book in her hands, but her mind was elsewhere as she stared at it, absorbed in thought.
It was then that the child from the family reached under the seat and pulled out Luo Qiao’s handbag, about to yank open the zipper, when Yichen said coldly from across, "What are you doing?"
The child retorted without thinking, "None of your business?"
Luo Qiao came back to her senses then: "You mess with his things and he’s not supposed to care? Do you want to fly to the moon or something?"
The child’s father hastily apologized with a smile: "Sorry about that, this child has been spoiled rotten at home."
Luo Qiao commented: "He has indeed been spoiled carelessly if he can just mess with other people’s things like this, and that’s not a good habit."
The child’s father’s face turned red with embarrassment: "Little Jun, put their things back properly now," he said.
The child was quite stubborn though: "No, I won’t. There’s something tasty in the bag, I want to eat it," he said, picking up the bag.
Luo Qiao couldn’t help but notice the child had quite the nose; to be cautious, after eating earlier she had washed out the lunch box and placed inside over a dozen stewed eggs, thinking they wouldn’t get cold and could be eaten for breakfast the next morning. She hadn’t expected the scent to be detectable.
There were also clothes in Luo Qiao’s bag, and she was worried that if the child kept fiddling, he might spill the juice on the clothes, so she reminded, "Comrade, there are clothes and a lunch box in that bag, and if you keep handling it that way, you might stain my clothes."
The man coaxed the child: "Little Jun, how about we put the bag down first?"
"No, I won’t put it down, I want the tasty stuff," the child insisted.
Luo Qiao wouldn’t have minded giving him something to eat, but she was displeased with the child’s behavior and his dirty hands kept grabbing the bag. Seeing the child still not letting go and even starting to shake it, Lu Yichen immediately took the bag out of his hands.
The child burst into a loud cry.
This woke other passengers in the carriage, and the child’s mother finally spoke: "The child is young and doesn’t understand, but aren’t you guys being a bit stingy? Can’t you give a little food to the child?"
Luo Qiao was now unhappy, failing to follow the logic: "You fail to discipline your child and still try to make excuses? My bag was sitting under the bed, and the moment he entered, he pulled it out looking for something to eat. Frankly speaking, that’s stealing.
Not only do you not educate him, you say things like that. With that attitude, there’s no hope for the child. I’d rather throw my stuff away than foster such shameless behavior."
