Lu Yichen replied, "Both his parents are workers in the mine. His older brother and sister are already married. I remember he mentioned that he has a younger brother. Housing is tight for them; they’ll probably have to live outside when they get married."

Luo Qiao sipped her soup, "Grandpa, I might not be able to make it next week. I have surgeries scheduled for those days."

Zhou Guifang smiled and said, "The surgery is important. This time, let Sister Jialin go. She can bring the child to me, and I can look after them."

After finishing the meal and cleaning up, Luo Qiao and Lu Yichen left the Luo Family home.

At a corner, Luo Qiao sensed someone approaching from behind. As their hand swung down, she subtly leaned forward, pretending to faint and collapsed softly to the ground, while also making a stopping gesture unnoticed by them.

Lu Yichen’s man hidden in the shadows was frantic. The gesture was clear; it meant he should not interfere. But how could he explain this to the Big Brother? It seemed that Sister-in-law was risking herself, but seeing her confident demeanor, he didn’t dare to burst out and ruin Sister-in-law’s plan.

Nevertheless, with him protecting her from the shadows, he felt sure nothing serious would happen. He quickly took out a pen and paper from his pocket to jot down the details of the situation.

When the sky was completely dark, the two men carried the sack towards a stone house at the back of the village, tapping softly on the door with three long and two short knocks. Soon, the door squeaked open from inside.

Luo Qiao heard someone inside say, "Come in quickly."

The men who brought her said, "We’ve brought the person, our brothers. Now give us the rest of the money, and we’ll get out of here immediately."

"We need to check the goods first. Don’t try to trick us by substituting someone else. That would mean our money’s gone to waste," said an inside voice.

After opening the sack and confirming that she was indeed the person they wanted, someone said, "Wait here for a moment, I’ll go get your money."

Luo Qiao’s consciousness entered her space, pressed the record button on the Walkman she had prepared earlier, and, hearing footsteps approaching, took it out using the sack for cover.

Then she heard a voice say, "This is the other half of the money. Take it and leave quickly. The farther, the better. Forget about this whole thing."

After both men left, that person then said to someone hidden, "Make sure to clean this up properly."

Two more people chased out the door after them.

Luo Qiao thought to herself, just as suspected, there was no way they would let those two leave alive. Committing such an act, dead men certainly keep secrets best.

When she heard no further noise, Luo Qiao quickly stashed the Walkman back into her space, feigning a slow awakening. That person had hastily confirmed her identity earlier, and if she continued to pretend to sleep, she might not escape his detection.
