Chapter 648: Chapter 648 Those Years Were Hard on You

The Qin family’s youngest daughter-in-law hurried to the backyard vegetable garden, picked some cucumbers and tomatoes, washed them clean, and said, "There isn’t much at home, but I’ve washed these, so take them with you for the road, and please don’t disdain them."

Luo Qiao happily accepted them, laughing, "How could we disdain them? They’re perfect for quenching our thirst on the train."

They had walked a good distance away from the Qin family when Luo Xuyuan said in a subdued voice, "Qiaoqiao, those years must have been hard for you."

Luo Qiao turned to look at Luo Xuyuan, her usually reserved second brother, who now had red eyes, understanding why he felt that way: "Second Brother, it’s all in the past.

Besides, if it weren’t for my time at the farm, I wouldn’t have met Grandpa Yuan, my master or my mistress, nor would I have learned all these skills. Let’s think of it as ’Heaven is about to place a great responsibility on a person, it will first toughen his spirit,’ shall we?"

Luo Xuyuan, seeing the smile on his sister’s face, felt tears welling up. His sister was always so optimistic, never complaining to them about the past.

After returning, she even cured his and Big Brother’s illnesses. Having such a sister meant that they brothers must have built up good karma over several lifetimes.

Luo Xuyuan looked directly into Luo Qiao’s eyes, "Qiaoqiao, from now on, your second brother will cherish you and won’t let anyone hurt you again. I’ll work hard to ensure that you have a better life than anyone else."

Luo Qiao knew her second brother was serious and smiled, "Okay, I’ll wait for second brother to be good to me, but let’s be steady and work with our hands to build our future."

Luo Xuyuan could easily catch the meaning behind his sister’s words. He tried to flick her forehead playfully but missed as Luo Qiao dodged and ran off laughing.

When they were nearing the train station, Luo Xuyuan said solemnly, "Qiaoqiao, rest assured. Your second brother will always be honest in his dealings and integrity in his actions. Over time, I will grow to be a towering tree that you can rely on."

Luo Qiao was moved by her second brother’s words, "Alright, Qiaoqiao understands."

When they reached the train station, Luo Qiao didn’t forget the wonton vendor, "Boss, two bowls of wontons, and three baked buns, please."

The vendor at the stand replied, "Okay, have a seat, they’ll be ready in no time."

Luo Qiao found a place to sit down, "Second Brother, the wontons here are really tasty, not any less delicious than those served at the state-run restaurant outside the machinery factory."

Luo Xuyuan loved seeing his sister so vibrant and full of life. His sister Luo Xuyan should always be this happy and carefree, and for that, he had to try even harder to become her support.

The wontons were soon served, and Luo Qiao said, "Second Brother, try them."

There was a smile on Luo Xuyan’s face as he tasted one and nodded, "Indeed, they taste great, genuine stuff."

After the siblings finished their meal, the time was just about right. They paid the bill, stood up, and prepared to enter the station.

They had purchased sleeper tickets, which would get them to their destination the next morning.

Since there were no lower berth tickets available, they had both bought middle berths.

As the train whistle sounded and they spotted the approaching train in the distance, Luo Xuyuan stood behind his sister. Even though it was a small station, there were quite a few people rushing for the train due to the farm.

It was still early, and most of the passengers were moving around below, so the siblings found their spots. They were both a bit tired that day, so after freshening up, they climbed into their berths.

Luo Qiao took out a medical book from her sling bag and started reading. It was her personal habit to read before sleeping, no matter where she was. Luo Xuyuan also had a book in hand, and after seeing that his sister was settled, he began reading as well.

As dusk approached, the train reached the next station, and two new passengers got on—one elderly lady and one middle-aged woman. But upon boarding, they were confused and couldn’t find their berths.

After asking the people around, they finally found their way, but then they faced another problem. Neither of them had traveled before, and they bought their tickets with someone else’s help. The helper didn’t know that the elderly lady was traveling, and since no lower or middle berths were available, they bought upper berths instead.

Unexpectedly, there was a last-minute change, and the young girl who was meant to travel was replaced by the elderly lady. Now there was no way to change the tickets on short notice, so they got them on the train first, leaving them to sort it out themselves.
