Chapter 637: Chapter 637 Act Like You’re Asking for Help

Zhang Xiao said, "Alright, if I come across something I can’t handle, I’ll find you in Class One during the break."

After a long struggle, he finally added, "About that past incident, I apologize on behalf of my mother and I owe you an apology too."

Having said this, Zhang Xiao breathed a sigh of relief, glad to have gotten it out at last, and then smiled, "I won’t keep you any longer, goodbye."

Xiao Ya watched Zhang Xiao walking away quickly, "His true intention isn’t the wine, he’s really quite awkward."

Luo Qiao laughed, "Let’s go; if we go home any later, it’ll be too late."

Luo Tiancheng stood in front of the gate of First City Middle School, watching the students coming out. His eldest daughter, Luo Lan, had told him that Luo Qiao was studying there and that her grades were exceptional. She was a day student and didn’t reside at the school, so he had arrived early to wait for her.

He hadn’t informed his younger brother, Luo Tianming, about seeking out Luo Qiao, as he instinctively didn’t want his brother to know about Luo Qiao’s current circumstances. If it weren’t for his eldest son, Luo Tao, digging up the information, he wouldn’t have known how outstanding Luo Qiao had become.

He thought to himself how foolish his brother was. Had they taken good care of Luo Qiao, they would surely be living in glory by now. Instead, they were witless to the extreme, carelessly sending Luo Qiao away and taking a good-for-nothing troublemaker in her stead.

Yet, as Luo Qiao and Xiao Ya walked past him, he didn’t recognize them at all. In his memory, Luo Qiao was so thin a gust of wind could blow her away.

When the school gates finally closed and he had not seen Luo Qiao, he approached the gatekeeper who was locking up and asked, "Uncle, have all the students left?"

The gatekeeper glanced at him, assuming he was there to pick up a child, "They’ve all left, look at the time."

Feeling deflated, Luo Tiancheng returned home. Upon entering, the Luo Family’s Main Wife gathered around him. Now, the entire courtyard belonged to them; the second wife had moved out before his eldest son, Luo Tao, got married.

Luo Tao asked, "How did it go, did she agree?"

Luo Tiancheng shook his head, "I didn’t see her at all."

Luo Tao frowned, "Impossible, I made sure to check thoroughly. She attends school every day."

The second son, Luo Jin, said, "Dad, could it be that you didn’t recognize Luo Qiao? It’s been over two years since we’ve seen her; surely there’s been some change."

The eldest daughter, Luo Lan, suggested, "Dad, why don’t you just go directly into the school? She’s now a student in Class One of the senior year. Just go in and ask her teacher to call her out."

Qiao Juan said, "Tiancheng, I think what Lan is saying makes sense. Instead of waiting outside, after two years, you might not even recognize her if she walks by you. Going directly to the school and talking to the teacher is the safest bet."

Luo Tiancheng felt troubled; he didn’t want more people to know they were looking for Luo Qiao for help, as it felt somewhat embarrassing.

The second daughter, Luo Xi, chimed in, "Dad, what are you hesitating for? It’s just a matter of making a phone call. With her help, our family could live more comfortably. Although Uncle and his wife did something wrong to her, it’s a fact that Grandma raised her. It’s only right that she lends us a hand."

Upon hearing his second daughter, Luo Tianming angrily retorted, "Asking for help and yet so self-righteous—who taught you that? Don’t forget, your Grandma is my mother and also your Uncle’s mother. If it wasn’t for your Uncle and his spouse’s selfishness back then, she wouldn’t have had to suffer those hardships. When you ask for help, you need to look like you’re asking for help. Don’t think about taking advantage and acting entitled; she doesn’t owe the Luo Family anything."

His words made the members of Luo Family’s Main Wife lower their heads, and Luo Xi softly said, "But Grandma did raise her, and we are her family. It’s only right for her to help us out a bit."

Luo Tiancheng said, "I’ll make another trip to the school this afternoon, but remember this—all of you—we are asking for her help, not that she owes us anything. Don’t keep thinking that because your Grandma raised Luo Qiao she should repay the Luo Family. Your Grandma was paying off a debt for your Uncle. Besides, you are her direct grandchildren, but in the past two years, which one of you has thought to visit the farm to offer respects to your Grandma? None. Yet Luo Qiao has, even asking the factory manager to look after your Grandma’s grave, calling her if there was any issue. Can any of you say you’ve done the same?"
