Chapter 548: Chapter 548 Thank You for That Slap That Woke Me Up
Luo Qiao laughed and said, "Then you’ll come and spend New Year’s with us every year from now on."
Stone nodded vigorously, unaware that one day his sister would marry and leave, while Luo Xuyuan watched these two little dummies with nothing but laughter in his eyes.
After making the rounds and coming home, they paid respects to the elders, handed out red packets, and Luo Qiao’s red packets this year were even more generous than the last.
Stone received a stack of red packets, then turned around and handed them to Luo Qiao, "Sister, keep these for me."
Luo Qiao teased with a wicked smile, "Stone, aren’t you afraid your sister will take all your New Year’s money?"
Stone laughed and said, "Right now I’m still living off brother and sister, but when I grow up, I’m going to make lots and lots of money for brother and sister to spend."
As it happened, Luo Xuyuan heard this too and found Stone much more agreeable than before, but he thought to himself that he would still be the one to take care of his sister.
Luo Xuyuan made a call to Uncle Sun. Once the call connected, he didn’t say much else, just, "Happy New Year, I agree to what you said the other day, when can we meet?"
After hanging up the phone and heading back, his mood brightened considerably.
After breakfast, the women cleaned up the dishes in the kitchen and started preparing the noon meal. They planned to eat lunch early today because the whole family was going to visit the temple fair in the afternoon, mainly to take a family portrait.
This was suggested by Grandpa Luo Daoren. His grandniece would be spending next New Year at her in-laws, so nobody opposed the idea.
After lunch, the kids couldn’t wait to leave, fussing to go.
Today, they didn’t take the bus. They strolled out the door and walked ahead; it took about half an hour to arrive at the destination, where they quickly got the family photo taken.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, each branch of the family took plenty of photos — the most were of the elderly couple, with portraits of just the two of them, of them with their sons and daughters-in-law, and with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The elderly couple were very happy today; their goal was achieved, perfect!
After the pictures were taken, they began to stroll through the temple fair, following the crowd. Stone and several little nephews and nieces couldn’t keep their eyes still, but Luo Qiao didn’t forget to give them a safety lesson.
There were dragon dances and lion dances, stilt walkers, and even more stalls than last year. Seeing hoops rolling on a stall, Luo Qiao bought a set for each of the children, delighting them immensely.
The elderly couple watched the harmonious family fun and, looking at each other, they smiled!
On the second day of the new year, Luo Qiao and her brothers left early to visit their uncle’s home. After dropping off some things and saying a few words, they left, preferring not to run into Ning Xueling.
Ning Hongda was quite annoyed, not at his nephews but at his own sister. The fact that her own children avoided her like the plague meant her life had been lived in vain.
Unfortunately, Ning Xueling didn’t have time to visit her family house today because the Wei Family caused an uproar on the second day of the new year.
Wei Zixiong had to ask three or four times before bringing Ning Xueling home for the New Year. She had originally decided not to go back to the Wei Family, but the thought of the company dormitory being empty during the holidays made her embarrassed at the prospect of gossip, so she returned to the Wei Family on New Year’s Eve.
This time, however, she didn’t do anything at home. She brought quite a few cookies and ready-made meals. Except for going out to wash up and use the restroom, she hardly left the room which greatly annoyed Wei Zixiong.
On the second day of the new year, she packed her things, ready to return to the company dormitory, but Wei Zixiong stopped her and asked for some money first. Wei Hongyan wanted to enroll in a dance class, the teacher was already chosen, and there were clothing, shoes, and registration fees to pay.
Ning Xueling suddenly laughed, "They’re not my children, you’re their father. You shouldn’t come to me for this, and besides, my money won’t be spent on them. You haven’t given me control over your money either, so where would I get the money for you?"
Wei Zixiong said, "Xueling, no matter what, they are now your children. Can you bear to see her miss this opportunity? If she does well in the future, she will certainly not forget your sacrifice."
Ning Xueling stared at Wei Zixiong for a long while before saying, "Do you think I’m a fool? Thank you for that slap that woke me up."
If it weren’t for fear of being laughed at, she would have divorced this man in front of her by now. She really had been foolish, probably twenty years ago he didn’t truly like her either, otherwise how could he have married someone else simply because her mother opposed their union? It turns out it was always just her own wishful thinking.
