Chapter 545: Chapter 545 Why have you only come now?

Luo Xuyan thought to himself that in the future, he must practice even more diligently, striving to participate in performances soon, and he would give all the prize money to his little sister. Luo Xuyuan, however, was scheming about other matters.

As for Luo Siyan and Luo Siyuan, they were thinking of leaving everything in their pockets to their little sister when they left the Yuan Family home later.

After lunch, Luo Qiao took her brothers for a walk around the courtyard, introducing them and Stone to people they knew without emphasizing the third brother. Still, Luo Siyan managed to be remembered by many.

Jin Jing also integrated into the Yuan Family that day, and everyone thought the girl was quite gentle. Yuan Weicheng saw that things were progressing as he had envisioned and was in a very good mood.

Yuan Weicheng intended to solve the issues concerning Jin Jing’s maternal family, but to his surprise, he hadn’t yet made his move when an unexpected incident occurred.

Upon leaving the military hospital, Jin Li encountered her cousin at their front gate. Hearing that a new batch of scarves had arrived, they both went to the department store. By the time they got there, only one new scarf remained at the counter.

A female comrade had claimed the scarf before them but was short fifty cents at checkout. She asked the salesperson to wait as her daughter-in-law would arrive shortly, but Jin Li would not have it and demanded the salesperson make out the bill, arguing it was unreasonable to hold an item without paying.

The salesperson, caught in a dilemma, was pressed by Jin Li, who claimed she knew the supervisor upstairs, and threatened to seek them out if the bill wasn’t made. Consequently, the salesperson reluctantly told the woman, "I’m sorry, but I must serve her first. When you come back in a few days, I’ll make sure to reserve one for you."

Jin Li triumphantly got the scarf, perhaps too pleased with herself as she flaunted it on the street, and got so excited that she started walking backward.

While advising her cousin on how to style the scarf attractively, Jin Li didn’t notice the remains of a snowpile at the roadside which had turned dangerously slippery. She fell backward immediately, and it would have been a simple tumble had it not been winter and had there not been two stones behind her.

When the doctor emerged from the operating room, the anxious parents from the Jin Family asked, "Doctor, how is my daughter?"

Removing his mask, the doctor said, "The patient has injured her spine. You need to be prepared for the possibility that she might remain bedridden."

Upon hearing the doctor’s words, Mother Jin fainted right there and then.

This incident saved Yuan Weicheng the trouble of intervening in the Jin Family’s affairs; it seemed Heaven itself couldn’t stand by any longer and took matters into its own hands.

After returning from the Yuan Family home to the staff hospital dormitories, Jin Jing soon received a phone call from her family. By the time she arrived at the hospital, Jin Li had already been admitted to a ward.

Her parents were crying inconsolably. Standing off to the side, Jin Jing’s eldest sister-in-law said, "Mom, don’t cry anymore. This is fate."

She thought to herself that this was retribution for all the bad deeds accumulated over time.

Jin Li had always been arrogant at home, looking down on everyone, and only pretended to be pleasant in front of outsiders. She was especially bossy within her own home. This time, it seemed she got what she deserved.

After having cried their fill, the Jin Family parents finally discussed what to do next. Fortunately, Jin Jing wasn’t working that day; otherwise, it would have been difficult to manage. In the end, everyone went their separate ways.

When Jin Li awoke the next day, everything had settled down. Jin Jing had returned to work at the military hospital, and Jin Li had taken medical retirement from her job at the staff hospital, vacating her position.

Time flew, and soon it was New Year’s Eve. Luo Qiao went out in the morning, first picking up the roast ducks she had ordered ahead of time, delivering one to the Xu Siblings and their family, along with some fresh vegetables.

When she left, she also dropped off a roast duck and some fresh vegetables next door to the Liu family grandchildren because she couldn’t bear to see them suffer. However, this time she didn’t show herself, simply leaving the items inside their gate and quickly departing once she heard someone emerge.

Carrying three roast ducks, Luo Qiao leisurely walked back home. Getting out of the car, she spotted Lu Yichen and jogged over to him, asking, "Why have you come over now?"

Lu Yichen replied, "I came to bring you something. A friend of mine sent over a big package of spicy duck necks, and knowing you like it, I thought I’d bring some to you."
