Chapter 514: Chapter 514: Tell me, what’s your plan?
Lu Yichen had been simmering porridge on the stove and had gone to a state-run restaurant to buy a few dishes and buns, as well as steamed buns, which he warmed in the pot. He tidied himself up just in time to pick someone up from the station. In order not to let Stone mess things up, he hadn’t mentioned to Stone that Luo Qiao was coming back today.
After listening to Lu Yichen explaining the whole situation, Luo Qiao also felt that Deputy Director Cai was a bit excessive. That’s not the way to spoil a child, and the Public Security Bureau isn’t your family business. It was really too much.
Luo Qiao turned her head playfully and said, "So do I need to go with you to the Public Security Bureau again?"
Lu Yichen said with a hint of indulgence, "No need, didn’t you say yesterday that you believed I could handle it? Since they don’t want to save face for themselves and their daughter and still come out to make trouble, then they don’t need to stay in that position."
Lu Yichen looked into the distance with a deep gaze, making it hard to guess what he was thinking.
Since he said it wasn’t necessary, then she didn’t need to bother anymore. If they had provoked Lu Yichen, then they only had themselves to blame.
When the two returned home, Luo Qiao had intended to check on the vegetable garden in the back, but in the dark, she thought better of it.
Lu Yichen brought out a basin of water first: "Wash up first, after sitting on the train for so long."
Luo Qiao placed her things back in the room and saw that it had been tidied up, and the bedding was clearly just aired out, which couldn’t help but move her.
Having just finished washing, Lu Yichen also brought out the meal from the kitchen: "Qiaoqiao, come and eat."
Watching Lu Yichen busily moving around, she thought that marrying him in the future might not be too bad. At least they already had a certain understanding of each other, and he didn’t have that chauvinistic attitude.
Luo Qiao sat down and saw the dishes on the table: "This isn’t what you made, is it?"
Lu Yichen replied, "I was in a rush today, so except for the porridge I made, the dishes and the main course were all bought from the state-run restaurant. But I’ve improved quite a bit in my cooking skills recently. I’ll cook for you sometime."
Luo Qiao picked up her bowl and asked, "Does Stone not know I was coming back today?"
Lu Yichen somewhat unnaturally said, "I didn’t tell him. If he knew you were coming back, he’d definitely make a fuss about going to pick you up together. One delay and it’d be late, affecting his class tomorrow, so I didn’t tell him you were returning tonight."
Luo Qiao laughed out loud: "With your logic, won’t he be affected when he sees me tomorrow and goes to class?"
Lu Yichen, already feeling guilty, reddened his ears at Luo Qiao’s words and used eating to cover his embarrassment.
After they had finished dinner and Lu Yichen had cleaned up, Luo Qiao then said, "So tell me, what are your plans?"
Lu Yichen answered, "Before the New Year, I might be transferred back to Capital City. I previously wanted to stay with you until you finished your college entrance exams before returning to Capital. Of course, I also didn’t want to go back.
But now I’m thinking that if I want to provide you with a good life in the future, I can’t just talk about it. I know what’s on your mind; you’ve made it very clear to me before.
So Qiaoqiao, can we make it official, so I can be at ease? I’ll work hard in Capital City and wait for you to attend university there."
Luo Qiao thought about how she was only sixteen this year. To make it official might be too early; hearts can change, and she hasn’t even met his family. Agreeing so hastily now wouldn’t be respectful to either him or herself.
After all, it’s not a trivial matter. Living a life together isn’t just about two people; it involves two families, and it’s even more complex since he’s from a blended family.
Having thought it through, she said, "I’m only sixteen this year, and I haven’t even met your family. To talk about this now is too early, and it’s somewhat irresponsible and disrespectful to me.
I understand your feelings, but engagement isn’t child’s play, nor is it solely about the two of us. After all, when it comes to living life together, both families will be involved."
Lu Yichen exhaled. Being a man, he hadn’t thought too deeply about it; he just knew he wanted to be with her every second, to achieve something significant so she could have a better life. Yet, he feared that if they were too far apart, he might accidentally lose her.
He wanted to care for her legitimately and let everyone know she was his, but now it seemed he had been a bit rash. He had previously promised her they would discuss this after she got into university.
