Chapter 455: Chapter 455 I Can’t Help You with This
Luo Qiao arrived at Jiang Dongli’s house and stood at the front gate, saying, "Auntie, are you home?"
Qu Meimei had just walked out of the room, heading to the kitchen to prepare food: "Luo Qiao is here, come on in."
Luo Qiao smiled and said, "I’m lucky Auntie is home."
Qu Meimei smiled and replied, "I’m on the late shift today."
Luo Qiao entered the yard: "Auntie, I’m taking the evening train back to Capital City, and last time you mentioned you wanted to send some quilt covers and blankets with me. Could you tell me exactly which patterns you want? I don’t want to buy the wrong ones again."
Qu Meimei said with a smile, "You’re really putting yourself to trouble, remembering all this for me."
Luo Qiao laughed, "An agreed matter should definitely be remembered."
Qu Meimei shared her wishes once again, and Luo Qiao smiled, "Okay, I’ve got it. You go on with your work, Auntie, I should head back to cook as well."
In Qingshan Village, Zhao Changlin sat in the yard, sighing. Liu Fang came out of the house with red eyes: "What are we going to do about this, husband?"
With a ’pat, pat’, Zhao Changlin drew on his dry pipe: "How would I know what to do? It’s his own fault for meddling in others’ business. Does he not know how much effort we spent finding that job for him? He had to cause trouble with those people, and now look what happened."
Liu Fang said, "But Leizi said it wasn’t just a few of them involved at the time; others were left alone, with only a few of them getting fired."
Zhao Changlin extinguished the dry pipe in his hand: "The others were fine because they had connections; what do we have?"
A feeling of suffocation rose in Liu Fang’s heart: "What if we asked Luo Qiao for help? The several families that visited our village to see her, weren’t they all influential? We don’t have any other options now."
Zhao Changlin let out a bitter smile: "Who do you think you are? Luo Qiao probably hates our Zhao Family to death by now; and you still expect her to help us?"
Liu Fang wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes: "The ones who wronged her are from the second brother’s family – what does that have to do with us? I’ve heard that Baozhu’s job at the Secretary’s Home was still sourced through that soldier who visited Luo Qiao back then. We don’t have any other options now."
Zhao Changlin stood up: "Luo Qiao’s not in the village now; where do you expect me to find her?"
Liu Fang said, "The Secretary must have her contact information; let’s go to the Secretary."
Zhao Changlin felt embarrassed, but thinking of his eldest son lying in the house, considering the job they had secured with most of the family’s savings, he was not willing to give it up without a fight.
So he walked out the door with his hands behind his back, heading towards the brigade office.
It turned out that Zhao Changlin’s eldest son, Zhao Lei, had paid quite a bit of money last year to secure a temporary job at the county’s nitrogen fertilizer plant through connections because of the long distance and he had been living in the factory dormitory.
He had been working well until the day before yesterday when he went out to see a movie with a bunch of young people from the factory, and somehow they got into a mass brawl. Someone from the other side was seriously injured, and although their own side was also hurt,
the seriously injured person’s family all worked for the government, and it was said that he was their only child. Now the problem wasn’t who was right or wrong; it was that the person still hadn’t awakened.
The injured party’s family demanded justice at the factory, leaving them no choice but to use the temps as scapegoats. It might have been settled with a fine and a warning, but unfortunately, there had been a prior complaint about Zhao Lei, leaving them looking for an excuse.
But dismissing only Zhao Lei would be all too obvious, and there had just been three troublemakers who, accustomed to relying on their status as workers’ children, did not comply with the rules and failed to work properly. So, the factory decided to clean house and fired four temporary workers at once.
They covered a part of the medical expenses, which would be deducted from their wages that month, and any future costs would need further negotiation. Anyway, they weren’t the only ones involved in the fight that day.
After Zhao Changlin reached the brigade, he explained why he had come, but Gao Jiefang dismissed him directly, thinking there was no Zhao Changlin who would deal with things in this way, treating him, the Secretary, as what? So he said, "Changlin, I can’t help you with this.
Rather than seeking Luo Qiao’s help, you might as well seek out the niece from the Pu Lin Family who went back to Capital City with her foster mother. That day, she left by car, so seeking Luo Qiao doesn’t make sense."
Zhao Changlin said, "I’m doing this because I have no other choice. For this job, our family has spent all of our savings. Being dismissed just like that, it’s hard to swallow."
