Chapter 426: Chapter 426: Speak Clearly Face to Face
By the time she returned home, Lu Yichen and Stone had already arrived. Seeing that the rice had been put on to cook, she washed her hands and prepared to start stir-frying.
Lu Yichen said, "Qiaoqiao, I’ll be going back to Capital City in a few days for some errands. Is there anything else you need me to take care of?"
Luo Qiao replied, "Nothing else, just remember to bring back the two puppies for me."
The two of them worked together seamlessly and quickly finished cooking the meal. Stone sat on the side wrapping his books, and Luo Qiao turned to glance at him, "Stone, are you almost done? We can eat now."
Stone put his books away, "Two more to go, I’ll wrap them after dinner. We’re out of this kraft paper."
As Lu Yichen carried dishes to the table, he remarked, "I’ll find some more for you later, just make sure the books for your main courses are covered first."
After dinner, Lu Yichen took charge of washing the dishes while Luo Qiao went to sort out the things she had brought back the day before. She opened the bag from the Jing Family, finding three roast ducks, a big bag of White Rabbit Creamy Candy, and three boxes of Beijing eight assorted pastries inside.
There were also two packs of Daqianmen cigarettes and two pieces of fabric suited for making spring clothing at the bottom, along with a few cans of beef and several boxes of chocolate. It seemed like they had been quite thoughtful.
Luo Qiao planned to give Qu Meimei a box of pastries and a roast duck, and to leave a set for the brigade leader’s family—oh no, now the Party Secretary, as Gao Jiefang had been elected as the village Party Secretary. They would keep the rest for themselves.
In one of the Yuan Family’s two net bags, there was powdered milk and Mai Ru Jing, as well as canned goods and some braised meat. Luo Qiao quickly placed the braised meat from the lunch box into the big vat under the shed in the yard.
Addressing Lu Yichen as he came out of the kitchen, she said, "I’ve put a lunch box of braised meat in this vat here. Remember to take it out tonight; it can’t sit for too long."
Lu Yichen nodded and followed Luo Qiao into the room. Seeing the array of items, he said, "Right, I had someone bring back two pieces of fabric for you from Shanghai. I’ll bring them to you tomorrow."
With her back to him, Luo Qiao asked an off-topic question without much interest, "I heard you have a fiancée?"
Caught off guard by the question, Lu Yichen thought for a moment before asking, "Why do you ask?"
As Luo Qiao tidied up the table, she explained, "I overheard your conversation with Gao Taohua by accident. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop; I just happened to be passing by."
Feeling slightly anxious, Lu Yichen said, "I was just fobbing Gao Taohua off. It wasn’t true."
Luo Qiao stated, "If you could use that line to stop her, then there must be some truth to it. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have thought of such an excuse on the spot."
Lu Yichen didn’t know what Luo Qiao wanted to say, so he didn’t argue, just waited for her to continue.
Luo Qiao continued, "The things you said over the phone before, don’t say them lightly to others in the future. They can easily be misunderstood."
Lu Yichen insisted, "Qiaoqiao, what I said on the phone was true."
Luo Qiao responded, "I’m still young, I haven’t planned on dating before college, and I definitely won’t get involved with someone who has a fiancée."
Lu Yichen really wanted to slap himself for coming up with such a poor excuse that day.
Quickly calming himself down, he said, "Qiaoqiao, you just said you don’t want to date before college. Is that in response to what I said to you the other day?"
Turning to face him, Luo Qiao affirmed, "Yes, it wasn’t convenient to talk about it over the phone that day, so I said some things had to be clarified in person. I’m young, and I hadn’t thought about dating before college.
Secondly, I’m not the kind to get involved with someone who has a fiancée or someone who’s already in a relationship. I used to think too simply, but now it’s different. It’s better if we have our meals separately in the future."
Before leaving for Capital City, Luo Haotian had specially taken her aside to remind her. Reflecting on her dad’s words, Luo Qiao thought he wasn’t entirely wrong. The present times weren’t as open as the future, and she didn’t want any trouble, so it was better to clarify things in advance.
Otherwise, she might face some woman confronting her one day, leaving herself with no way to explain.
Lu Yichen broke the silence, saying, "Regarding the two points you’ve mentioned: first, you’re still young and don’t want to date before college—I understand and agree with that. So, I can wait. Whenever you’re ready to agree, that’s when we can confirm our relationship."
