Chapter 405: Chapter 405: Celebrating the New Year with Joy and Happiness
The doctor didn’t prescribe any medicine in the end, simply saying, "Try to be less angry in the future, getting angry is harmful to your health."
After hearing the doctor’s words, Luo Haotian coldly ’huffed,’ got up, and left the hospital. It was only three stops away from home, and since there wasn’t any delay at the hospital, the round trip took just over forty minutes.
Everyone thought Ning Xueling had gone to an outside public restroom, so no one asked about her.
Luo Siyuan came over and saw his younger sister busy at the stove, he said with a chuckle, "We’re in for a treat tonight."
Zhou Guifang teased him, "What, the food Grandma made before wasn’t tasty?"
Luo Siyuan placed his hands on his grandma’s shoulders and quickly corrected himself, "How could that be? I meant that Qiaoqiao’s cooking is as delicious as that of our good grandma, so everyone is in for a treat tonight."
Zhou Guifang laughed and said, "You know what’s good for you. Go help your dad and the others set up the dinner table, the dishes will be ready soon."
Luo Siyuan played along, "Yes ma’am, I’m on it immediately."
The New Year’s Eve dinner was sumptuous, Luo Qiao took charge of cooking and made three big dishes: braised pork, garlic spareribs, and "squirrel" fish.
Luo Jiayue said, "This is my first time seeing fish cooked this way, I’ll have to try it later."
Luo Qiao replied with a smile, "This is a dish from the Jiangsu cuisine; we northerners rarely make it."
Gu Hongjuan chuckled from the side, "You’ve been watching the whole time, did you learn anything?"
Luo Jiayue laughed, "Mom, give it a rest. If I could learn just by watching, then I’d be a genius by now. Your daughter here doesn’t have that kind of talent."
Everyone in the kitchen burst into laughter!
Ever since Ning Xueling returned from the hospital and found out she was alright, she was no longer afraid. However, her gaze towards Luo Qiao was even colder than before.
Luo Qiao saw all her moves and couldn’t care less as long as she didn’t create trouble.
They set up two tables for the evening, with men and women sitting separately. At this time, it was impossible not to let Ning Xueling in the house, but now Luo Haotian was relieved since Ning Xueling lost her voice.
After entering the house, Ning Xueling kept looking at Luo Xuyan and Luo Xuyuan across from her, but neither of her sons gave her a glance. It was the first encounter in twenty years, and everyone deliberately avoided mentioning it because the family knew about some issues concerning Xuyuan.
The eldest and third branches of the family also knew that two nephews had been brought back for the New Year and had repeatedly instructed that no one was to speak of the past or mention Ning Xueling in front of Xuyuan.
The dinner went on harmoniously without Ning Xueling causing trouble. Luo Xuyan originally wanted to sit next to his younger sister, but Luo Xuyuan wouldn’t let him, so he obediently took his own seat.
After a lively New Year’s Eve dinner, chatting and playing cards kept them up past midnight. Luo Siyuan and Luo Xudong and Luo Xunan from the eldest branch, as well as Luo Xufei from the third branch, set off fireworks together at the main door.
The grandchildren and granddaughters from the eldest branch were already asleep from exhaustion, so they were carried back to sleep in their grandmother’s room first. There wasn’t enough room on the heated brick bed, and soon, several makeshift beds were set up in the rooms.
It was clear that this was an annual routine when they saw how adept they were. The fire in the kitchen stove was kept burning all night, so even with thinner blankets, it didn’t matter; everyone slept in their clothes.
In the living room and another room, wooden plank beds were set up, and two people squeezed into one bed before everyone settled down for the night.
The next day, before dawn, the sound of fireworks could be heard outside, followed by continuous activity. The people inside the house also began to wake up, dismantling the makeshift plank beds and restoring order to the rooms.
When Ning Xueling tried to speak upon waking up, she still couldn’t make a sound. Although the doctor said there was nothing wrong, she still felt rushed and afraid, hoping that they could leave in the afternoon.
Each year after lunch on New Year’s Day, everyone could return to their own homes. Song Shiya glanced at the second sister-in-law standing on the floor, noting that she hadn’t spoken a word since her trip out yesterday.
Could the younger uncle have said something to her? Or did she reflect and realize that she truly wasn’t a qualified mother, hence her silence? Still, it felt odd to Song Shiya; this wasn’t the second sis-in-law’s usual way of behaving.
Gu Hongjuan, noticing the eldest sister-in-law staring blankly at the second sister-in-law, said in a low voice, "Eldest sis-in-law, do you also think there’s something off about the second sis-in-law? I spoke to her several times yesterday, and she just smiled or didn’t reply. Has the second sis-in-law changed her ways?"
At this, Zhou Guifang walked in, "You should all start cleaning up too. I’m worried that the dumplings we made yesterday won’t be enough. We still have filling, so let’s mix some dough and make more later."
After speaking, she also glanced at her second daughter-in-law, who hadn’t said a word since being scolded yesterday. She thought with a huff, could she still be harboring a grudge? Well, she can be however she likes.
Ning Xueling was not oblivious to the looks her mother-in-law and sisters-in-law were giving her, but she definitely couldn’t let them know there was a problem with her throat, especially since it was caused by a fit of anger.
