Chapter 395: Chapter 395 The Phone Call from Ji City
Yuan Jianing chuckled, "We just finished shopping, and I’m heading back to the courtyard with Second Aunt, it’s a shame you can’t join us. It would have been so lively."
Luo Qiao looked at the receding scenery outside the window, "I’ll come over on the second day of the Lunar New Year. Besides, without me there, you’ll be the treasured darling of the family."
Yuan Jianing burst into laughter, "I’m going to tell Grandpa and Brother about what you just said."
Luo Qiao smiled, "They will definitely say, ’Right, Ningning, you should cherish it.’
Then, both of them laughed, trying not to disturb others, so they just shrugged their shoulders as they giggled.
After they had their fill of laughter, a girl sitting in front of them spoke, "Hello, I’m Lin Hua. You sang beautifully tonight."
Yuan Jianing smiled and said, "Thank you."
Others also greeted them, but a few girls sitting in the last row seemed disdainful. One of them said, "What’s there to be so proud of? It’s just good luck."
A boy seated next to them whispered, "Don’t make trouble for no reason."
Luo Qiao turned her head to glance at the speaker, making a mental note of the person, thinking to herself that all kinds of people exist.
The boy blushed under Luo Qiao’s stare, feeling utterly embarrassed to be following his cousins around, causing trouble without any real ability to back himself up.
After getting off the vehicle, Luo Qiao watched as Yuan Jianing got into the car to return to the courtyard before she turned to find her own shuttle bus.
In Ji City, Lu Yichen carried the New Year gifts from his unit back home where Stone had already started steaming two measures of rice, "Brother, you’re back?"
Lu Yichen set down his items and said, "Stone, I’ve brought some food back. Keep the rice warm on the stove."
Stone took the food container and headed towards the stove, "Tomorrow is New Year’s Eve. When is sister coming back?"
Lu Yichen paused for a moment, "Missing your sister?"
Stone nodded, "Mhm."
Lu Yichen replied, "After we eat, we’ll call her."
Stone’s eyes lit up instantly, "Really? Brother, do you have sister’s phone number?"
In his mind, Lu Yichen thought about the trouble he went through to get the number from Luo Siyuan, "Mhm, I do."
Stone suggested, "Then let’s go make the call now. If we wait any longer, sister might be going to bed, and the rice isn’t ready anyway."
The two set out excitedly only to be disappointed when they called and were told she wasn’t in, having gone to see a performance and wouldn’t be back until after eight in the evening.
When Luo Qiao got home, her grandfather mentioned that someone had called for her earlier, from Ji City.
Luo Qiao knew right away it was Lu Yichen; no one else would call her. She couldn’t help but smile.
No sooner had she finished speaking than Uncle Sun’s voice came from outside, "Luo Qiao, your call, from Ji City."
Luo Qiao excused herself to her grandparents and stepped out again. Luo Xuyan, hearing Luo Qiao’s voice from the inner room, got out of bed and put on his shoes, stepping out only to find no one around.
He turned to ask, "Grandma, where’s sister? I heard her talking."
Zhou Guifang smiled, "She’ll be back in a bit. Your sister went to pick up a call at Uncle Sun’s place."
Luo Xuyan hurriedly put on his coat, "I’m going to pick her up."
Luo Daoren didn’t stop him and helped him with his hat, ready to go out with him when Luo Xuyan said, "It’s cold, Grandpa, go back. I can pick her up on my own."
Hearing this, Luo Daoren felt incredibly sweet inside; his eldest grandson had truly recovered.
Luo Daoren replied, "That’s alright. I was going to see Uncle Sun about something anyway."
He turned to tell his wife, "Grab the stuff you’ve prepared for me. I’ll take it to Xiao Sun so we don’t have to make a separate trip later. Right now, there probably won’t be other visitors there."
Zhou Guifang hurried to the kitchen to get the items, and the pair left the house together.
Luo Qiao had just greeted Auntie Sun when the telephone rang.
Luo Qiao answered the call, "Hello, yes?"
"Hey, Qiaoqiao, it’s Lu Yichen."
Luo Qiao thought to herself that ever since she returned to the Capital, he’d changed the way he addressed her. But considering that everyone called her Qiaoqiao, she didn’t dwell too much on Lu Yichen’s method of addressing her.
"Yeah, I know. Calls from Ji City, if not you, then who else?"
