Chapter 380: Sunroom, Not Being Alarmist

Chapter 380: Chapter 380: Sunroom, Not Being Alarmist

When the two reached the small plaza, they saw the so-called sunroom divided into several groups. Some were playing chess, others were playing poker, and there were those who were simply sitting and chatting.

If the wind didn’t pick up, the place was quite nice. Yuan Jianing, with Luo Qiao in tow, walked in. Old Master Zhong’s security guard spotted them first. Yuan Jianing greeted with a smile, "Brother Li, you’ve done a nice job with this place. It really does feel like a sunroom."

Xiao Li said with a touch of pride, "What do you mean ’feels like’? We put a lot of effort into it. Look at how much the old leaders enjoy it here."

Old Master Yuan noticed his two granddaughters and, holding his chess cannon, nodded slightly and said, "General."

Old Master Yuan announced, "I’m not playing anymore. My granddaughters have come to pick me up."

Everyone followed his gaze and saw Yuan Jianing, with another young girl standing beside her.

Someone asked, "Old Yuan, that’s your Jianing, right? Who is the girl next to her?"

Old Master Yuan replied with a smile, "That’s also my granddaughter."

Old Master Yuan stood up just as Luo Qiao saw him and cheerfully said, "Grandfather, are you not playing anymore?"

Old Master Yuan approached, "Not playing anymore. It’s almost noon. When did you get back?"

Luo Qiao said with a smile, "I just got back. I heard from Jianing that you guys built this big sunroom and I wanted to check it out."

All the elderly gentlemen laughed together.

Old Master Zhong chuckled, "Qiaoqiao, what do you think now that you’ve seen it?"

Luo Qiao responded with a smile, "Hmm, it’s pretty good actually. It lets you all bask in the sun and keeps out the cold. But I suggest that you tear off the newspaper that’s covering the pipe outlet."

Xiao Li quickly objected, "We can’t tear it off. If we do, there will be drafts in that spot."

Luo Qiao continued with a smile, "Although this sunroom has two entrances and exists, it’s also blocked by cotton curtains, making it too airtight. The air circulation is poor, and you guys even lit a stove inside, I see you’ve baked sweet potatoes in there."

"Coal-burning stoves produce carbon monoxide, and breathing in too much of it is not good for your health. It’s better to leave a spot open to let some fresh air in."

Xiao Li, rubbing his head, said, "I figured that with people constantly coming in and out of the doors, there wouldn’t be a problem, but I’ll go up and tear off the newspaper."

Luo Qiao smiled, "Your thoughts aren’t wrong, but it’s better to be a little more cautious. We can’t afford any mishaps."

Xiao Zhang commented, "Luo Qiao is right. Actually, even if wind comes in through that opening up top, it wouldn’t blow directly on anyone. Everyone typically stays until mealtime or needs to relieve themselves without anyone going out. It’s always better to be careful."

Old Master Yuan laughed, "Yes, we really hadn’t thought about that. It’s not nighttime, after all."

Old Master Zhong laughed, "It’s true, Qiaoqiao knows her stuff."

Luo Qiao felt a bit embarrassed, wondering if she was teaching her elders how to suck eggs and quickly added, "You all must be aware of this, just an oversight."

Old Master Zhong smiled, "You’re just too modest, young lady."

Just then, someone spoke up, "This young lady’s words aren’t alarmist. Don’t think you can’t get carbon monoxide poisoning during the day. By the time you notice, it’ll be too late."

Everyone turned to the speaker, a young offspring from the compound working at the army hospital.

By this time, Xiao Li had torn off the newspaper from up above and said, "It’s my fault. I didn’t understand that." He was so anxious that his local dialect came out.

Luo Qiao smiled, "It’s okay, you had good intentions. Just remember this for next time."

Xiao Li sincerely thanked Luo Qiao. He was truly frightened at the thought of having caused an accident involving the senior officers. He couldn’t bear to think of the consequences.

Upon returning to the Yuan Family’s home, Auntie Chen still hadn’t finished preparing the meal. Old Master Yuan glanced at the clock on the table and then at the kitchen. He settled down on the sofa.

Song Huizhen had just returned from outside as well. Yuan Jianing said, "Mom, you’re back?"

Luo Qiao also stood up to greet her, "Auntie."

Song Huizhen nodded at her daughter and said with a smile, "Qiaoqiao’s back."

Luo Qiao nodded with a smile, "Yeah. What happened to your pants?"

Song Huizhen explained, "Don’t even mention it. I fell down at the crossroad on my way back."

Yuan Jianing hurried over, "Mom, are you alright?"

Song Huizhen laughed it off, "I’m fine, I’m fine. I just made the turn too quickly. I don’t know how, but that spot froze over and was very slippery. I wasn’t paying attention and just fell. I’ll go upstairs and change."

Then she added, "I have something to do this afternoon, so let’s have lunch a bit earlier."

After she greeted Old Master Yuan, she got up to head upstairs. Passing by the kitchen, she noticed that the dishes were not all cooked, and the rice was still on the stove.

Song Huizhen really didn’t know what to say. Usually, out of respect for her father-in-law, she was somewhat hesitant to speak up, but the more reticent she was, the more Sister Chen seemed to take liberties and become careless.

Thus, she inquired, "Sister Chen, has something happened? Why isn’t lunch ready yet?"
