Chapter 372: Chapter 372 Black Market, The Heart of Gossip Burns Fiercely

Having found the Black Market, Luo Qiao filled her back basket with some meat and vegetables. Since the Lunar New Year was fast approaching, it didn’t take long before she attracted quite a few people. The prices had been set by her after making a round beforehand, and they were fair and reasonable.

Once she had sold everything in her back basket, someone sought her out, saying there was someone who wanted to see her.

Luo Qiao was led to a courtyard where the person got straight to the point, "Sister, do you have any more goods on hand?"

Luo Qiao nodded.

Seeing Luo Qiao’s nod, the person continued, "How much more of the goods you had today do you have?"

Luo Qiao spoke in a low voice, "That depends on the price you’re offering?"

The person, upon hearing Luo Qiao’s words, felt that this girl had guts, interesting, and laughed, "Sister is straightforward, I, Jin Biao, like to collaborate with straightforward people."

This person was named Jin Biao, who was quite a character in the Black Market, known for his righteousness and relatively fair dealings.

Jin Biao had also been on the lookout for quality goods recently, especially since his dealings were not limited to the Black Market — part of his supply was for well-connected people. With the Lunar New Year around the corner, he had to have something impressive to maintain face.

If he could get on good terms with those people, he would undoubtedly benefit in the future. Thus, he very agreeably settled on the day’s going rate for vegetables and meat. Naturally, Luo Qiao had no objections.

The location of the trade was chosen by Luo Qiao, and she also mentioned she had a batch of eggs. Jin Biao agreed to purchase them at eight cents apiece, which was quite a generous price.

Having struck a deal, Luo Qiao returned to the Black Market, where she bought six bottles of ticket-free Moutai, and two packs of Daqianmen cigarettes, thinking of storing them in her space for future need.

After leaving the Black Market, Luo Qiao found an isolated spot to enter her space, where she prepared a substantial amount of Chinese medicine, planning to try making medicinal ointment later at her grandparents’ home.

In addition, she had prepared three pounds of lean meat, two pounds of pork belly, and two pounds of fat. She planned to bring it all over later, most of the wild boar consisted of lean meat, and the two pounds of fat had been accumulated from previous occasions when she had trimmed the fat off while cooking as she disliked it in her dishes.

After leaving the space, Luo Qiao found a traditional Chinese medicine shop to buy a set of medicine preparation tools. There were tools in the storage of her space, but they seemed like antiques in Luo Qiao’s eyes, and she did not want to take them out.

Having purchased what she needed, she then took a bus to her grandparents’ place. After getting off the bus, she found a safe place to bring out her back basket, which contained not just the meat but also several packs of dried fruit she had made before.

Luo Qiao also prepared an extra pack of dried fruit to hand-carry, intending to give it to Uncle Sun’s family at the street corner. She would inevitably need to use his phone to reach her grandparents, so it was better to foster good relations first.

Uncle Sun’s home was at the street corner, and his was a public phone installed for communal use, provided by the authorities for the convenience of the residents in the area, who granted him a small management fee every month.

As Luo Qiao approached, she saw Uncle Sun playing with his grandson Xiao Sun, with a few neighbors sitting not far away. "Uncle Sun, taking care of the child?" she asked.

Uncle Sun replied with a smile, "Yes, his mother’s washing clothes, so I’m keeping an eye on him for a bit. Your grandfather and your Big Brother just went back home."

Luo Qiao handed over what she was carrying, "Uncle Sun, this is for sweetening the little one’s mouth."

Uncle Sun saw what Luo Qiao was offering and quickly said, "No, no, take this nice thing back and eat it yourself; you don’t have to give it to him."

Luo Qiao replied with a smile. "Uncle Sun, just keep it. It’s nothing expensive. I have more in my back basket, and I might need to ask Uncle Sun to run errands to my grandparents’ place in the future."

She then opened the paper packet, pulled out a slice of dried apple, and handed it to the little boy, smiling, "It’s appetizing, kids love it."

Having placed the items down on a small table at the doorstep, she said, "Uncle Sun, I’ll be going. When you have time, bring the little nephew over to play."

Uncle Sun seemed a bit embarrassed and said, "Ah, you shouldn’t have gone to the expense."

Luo Qiao waved her hand and, with a nod to the others nearby, left.

A nearby person asked, "Whose daughter is she?"

Uncle Sun replied with a smile, "That’s the granddaughter from the Luo family living at the back."

The person scratched their head saying, "That can’t be right, I’ve seen all three granddaughters from the Luo family, which one is she?"

Zhang Daniang, sitting on the other side commented, "Probably the new granddaughter they just acknowledged."

The person who had asked earlier, upon hearing this, had their curiosity ignited. "Zhang Daniang, please tell us what’s going on?"
