Chapter 338: Chapter 338: Is This Blaming Her?
Ning Xueling, just out of the kitchen, heard Luo Qiao mention she brought gifts and immediately thought of her sister-in-law Gu Hongjuan’s face. It had changed so much only after using the freckle-removing cream Luo Qiao had sent.
She couldn’t help looking in that direction, feeling somewhat mixed emotions. When she had arrived earlier, she was busy helping in the kitchen, so she missed greeting everyone. It had been a few months, and Luo Qiao indeed had grown even more beautiful.
After putting her things away, Luo Qiao said, "I took a trip down south before, searching for a particular herb on the mountains there. I traded for it with the local tea farmers. It’s all this year’s new tea. Grandpa can brew a pot and see how it tastes."
Old Master Luo, hearing it was the freshest tea, called his granddaughter Luo Jialin to make the tea and kept instructing her on how to do it.
Luo Haotian looked at his daughter, "Why did you go down south?"
Luo Qiao didn’t mind his tone, "Yes, there’s a herb that can only be found in the mountains of the south, so I went there."
Luo Haotian said, "Next time you need something, you can tell your father or your brothers. We can ask a friend to find it and send it to you. It’s too dangerous for a girl to be out there alone."
The Yuan Family Brothers who came back with her thought to themselves, "Luo Qiao in danger? It’s likely those who confront Luo Qiao who will be in danger."
Luo Qiao said, "I’m quite capable of taking care of myself. You don’t need to worry."
The tea was quickly served. The faint aroma of tea was detectable from afar just now, and now Luo Jialin had poured a cup for each of the elders.
Everyone watched Grandpa Luo lift his cup of tea, sniffing it for a while before gently sipping just a bit. A few moments passed before he said, "Good tea. This tea is initially astringent, sweet aftertaste, fragrant upon careful tasting. It’s very good, excellent tea!"
Luo Qiao smiled, "I’m glad grandpa likes it."
Eldest Uncle Luo, Luo Haoxuan, also picked up his cup and took a small sip, smiling, "This tea is indeed good. Last time, I had it once at Minister Liang’s, and he said he only managed to get two ounces of it. I think this is even better than that."
Grandpa Luo gave his granddaughter a meaningful look. This tea was indeed top-grade. It seemed his own granddaughter had some real skills.
Luo Qiao smiled, "Take some with you when you leave. I’ve prepared it for each family."
Uncle Ning Hongda laughed, "We’re enjoying Qiaoqiao’s filial piety ahead of time."
Uncle Ning Hongbo picked up the tea leaves from the table and smelled them for a long while before looking at Luo Qiao, "This tea must’ve cost a pretty penny, right? Did it empty out your piggy bank?"
Luo Qiao smiled, "I didn’t spend money on it. I provided a day of free medical consultations for the local tea farmers and handed out quite a bit of medicine. So, this was given to me by the villagers. I selected some to bring back."
When everyone heard Luo Qiao mention the free medical clinic, they became interested. Uncle Ning Haoqing said, "Qiaoqiao, your medical skills are good enough to treat people now?"
Luo Qiao smiled, "Ordinary ailments are no problem. As for difficult and miscellaneous diseases, it depends on luck. If it happens to be something I’m proficient in, then I can handle it, but if it’s something I haven’t come across before, then I have to study it before I know."
Ning Xueling, upon hearing Luo Qiao’s words, felt she was being too immodest and interrupted their conversation, saying, "Let’s wash our hands and get ready for dinner."
Then, while everyone was moving towards the dining room, she approached Luo Qiao and whispered, "A girl should be more reserved. Don’t make your claims too grand to avoid embarrassment later."
Luo Qiao looked at her, "You really don’t know me well enough. I never brag."
Having said this, she got up and walked away, leaving Ning Xueling standing there, stunned. She knew Luo Qiao had learned medical skills at the farm from her master, but how old was she to make such bold claims? She only wanted to give her a heads-up, fearing Luo Qiao would become the subject of gossip in the future.
Had she said something wrong? But what did Luo Qiao’s retort mean, that she didn’t understand her enough? Was she blaming her?
The dinner that evening was exceptionally sumptuous, and everyone took special care of Luo Qiao. Aunt Gu Hongjuan said, "Qiaoqiao, doesn’t my face look much better than before?"
Luo Qiao looked over. The spots on her face had faded significantly, and her skin seemed much softer and firmer than before. Most importantly, her aunt seemed much more confident.
