Chapter 330: Chapter 330 Manuscript Fee Received, Starting a Business

Fable stories had their rate increased to six yuan per thousand characters starting two months ago, and illustrations also saw a price bump of fifty cents. Now, each illustration is priced at one yuan fifty cents. Currently, I send in four fabled stories per month, usually with no more than four or five illustrations each.

If a fable story falls short of a thousand words, Luo Qiao would add some annotations to make sure it’s normally above a thousand words. Counting the illustrations, the lowest earning for a single fable story would be twelve yuan.

Right now, this column brings in at least forty-eight yuan a month in income. In this era, that’s truly not a small amount, as an ordinary full-time employee only makes about thirty or forty yuan in wages.

Luo Qiao had considered that there might come a time when she wouldn’t be able to write fable stories, so she tried her hand at writing novels under the pen name: Xiao Yao. To her surprise, the editor-in-chief directly retained her and offered a decent price.

Lu Yichen and Stone saw Luo Qiao smile, knowing she had gotten her wish, and heard her say, "See, Stone, your sister wasn’t bragging. The remittance slip has arrived, I can afford to support you."

Stone’s eyes sparkled as he looked at what Luo Qiao was holding, "Sister, you’re amazing!"

Luo Qiao smiled and replied, "Thank you, Stone."

Lu Yichen, while observing the joyous Luo Qiao opposite him, suddenly asked, "Luo Qiao, which university are you planning to apply for in the future?"

Luo Qiao, still toying with the remittance slip in her hand, casually answered, "Beijing."

Lu Yichen felt relieved and thought about replying to them tomorrow. He was currently in Ji City, and he planned to invest more money. Since his brother had his mind on sharing good news with him, he had to plan for the future too.

This girl was skilled at making money, and he couldn’t afford to fall behind. Watching Luo Qiao’s excited little face, he found her quite adorable.

A while ago, a brother from Capital City called, saying that the transportation company had just added over a dozen new Dongfeng trucks, and through insider information, they learned that a few of the old Dongfeng trucks were going to be sold off.

After enquiring, they found that several of these trucks were well-maintained and could easily run for a few more years. They called to see if he was interested in investing in one. They made it clear there were definitely risks involved but gave him a few days to consider. The idea was to take on these trucks, which could still be affiliated with the transportation company, as long as they paid the annual affiliate fee.

However, even second-hand trucks require a significant amount of money. A new Dongfeng 141 costs about thirty-five thousand yuan, and the trucks being phased out would still probably be valued at a minimum of five thousand yuan.

After the meal, Stone helped Lu Yichen clear the dishes, a habit that had become second nature. Anyway, Luo Qiao disliked doing dishes the most, and was happy to let it happen.

Planning to visit the Yao Family in the afternoon, she got up and prepared a net bag of items, which included cured fish, kelp, laver, and shrimp skin in small quantities. They weren’t much, but good enough to pass muster, especially since seafood was considered a rarity in the north.

She asked Stone to watch the house and left with Lu Yichen. The snow outside was already two centimeters deep and showed no sign of stopping. Lu Yichen advised Luo Qiao to be careful on the road before they parted ways at the alley.

When Luo Qiao left the house, she had an umbrella that she’d bought on a trip to the south. Everyone on the street watched her as if she were a monkey in a show, because she was the only one with an umbrella on her way to the bus stop.

She then realized that not every household necessarily had an umbrella, and even those that did might not want to use it during a snowfall.

Luo Qiao thought to herself, thankfully she was well-wrapped up and her face couldn’t be seen. Heh, she felt a bit embarrassed!

When she arrived at the Yao Family’s home, she didn’t expect that all the Yaos would be there today. Yao Lili blurted out upon seeing her, "Why did you come?"

Yao Chengxuan scolded, "How can you be so rude, given your age?"

After scolding Yao Lili, he then turned to Luo Qiao and said, "It’s freezing out, come in and warm up."

Luo Qiao ignored Yao Lili, shook the snow off her umbrella thoroughly, put it away, stomped her feet clean, and then entered the house, "Uncle Yao, Auntie Yao, I came to see you."

Just after being chastised, Yao Lili was about to say something more, but then spotted what Luo Qiao was carrying and shut her mouth.

Luo Qiao said, "Auntie Yao, I’ve got some seafood gifts, I brought some for you to try."

After the previous incident, Wu Peiling just wasn’t as carefree as before, "It’s enough for you to come and see us, don’t bring anything next time."
