Chapter 318: Chapter 318 This Man is Really a Scumbag
At midnight, Luo Qiao heard someone coming in, making quite a noise; upon opening her eyes, she saw two women and a man enter, accompanied by a child about seven or eight years old.
Seeing them busy with their luggage, Luo Qiao closed her eyes to continue her slumber; it wasn’t long before she heard a woman say, "Brother Yang, can you get them to give us a lower bunk instead? I don’t want to sleep on the top."
Another woman replied, "You don’t want to sleep on the top, but there’s still a middle bunk available—you can sleep there. I’ll sleep on the top with Liang Zi."
The woman didn’t respond but called out again, "Brother Yang."
Luo Qiao thought to herself that this woman was certainly no good; the coquettish tone of her voice was truly uncomfortable, giving her goosebumps all over. Anyway, Luo Qiao had no intention of accommodating her request, so she didn’t move an inch, feigning a deep sleep.
The older woman across from her turned over, facing inward to lie down, prompting the woman to call out again, "Brother Yang, I’m afraid I’ll fall from the top. Besides, it’s inconvenient to sleep up there."
Luo Qiao listened to the woman’s words, thinking she was quite clever to recognize that it was inconvenient on the top bunk—as if it were any more convenient for others.
Tired of pretending, Luo Qiao turned over like the older woman and faced inward to sleep.
The woman still hadn’t given up and said, "Brother Yang, have a look at them."
The man in the middle bunk yelled fiercely, "Shut up, what time is it? Do you want to let people sleep or not? So noisy."
It was then that Brother Yang attempted to appease the situation, "Sister Qiqiao, please bear with it for tonight. It’s too late for switching places; it’s inconvenient. Tomorrow morning when we get up, I’ll ask for you; for now, settle for the middle bunk to rest, and we’ll discuss it in the morning."
The next morning, after Luo Qiao awoke, she went to the restroom as a cover to freshen up in her own space before coming out. Then she made herself a cup of milk, took out a marinated egg, a sesame flatbread, and an apple, and started to eat them slowly.
The older woman across from her had also gotten ready and came back with a half-filled enamel mug of Mai Ru Jing. She took out a sugar flatbread and an egg she had prepared earlier and started to eat as well.
The seven- or eight-year-old child in the top bunk, probably smelling the aroma, said, "Mom, I’m hungry."
The child didn’t make a fuss but just kept looking down from the top bunk, nudging his mother, "Mom, I’m hungry."
The woman touched her son’s head and said, "There are some biscuits in Mom’s bag; you can eat those first. In a bit, I’ll ask Dad to get you some breakfast, alright?"
The child was reasonably sensible and didn’t make a scene, simply saying, "I want an egg and a flatbread."
The woman thought for a moment, "There are definitely eggs on the train; I don’t know about flatbreads. If there’s some for sale, I’ll have your dad buy some for you."
The little boy smiled and even peeked out to glance at the two people eating below.
Luo Qiao just happened to look up, and the two shared a smile; the boy’s eyes were very bright, and Luo Qiao was instantly reminded of Stone. Recalling Stone’s listless demeanor, she figured it wouldn’t be long before they had to start eating in the cafeteria again.
The older woman opposite, perhaps charmed by the child’s cuteness, reached into her paper package and offered a sugar cake to him.
The child didn’t take it but instead woke his mother, pointing at the offered sugar cake for her to see.
Having been woken up, the woman sat up and looked towards the older woman below, "Thank you, but he doesn’t need it. I’ve brought some biscuits, and we’ll be getting breakfast soon."
The older woman, seeing that the child’s mother had refused and the kid did not reach out to take it, prepared to put the sugar cake away; however, the woman who had flirted the night before spoke up, "If they don’t want it, you can give it to me; I’m somewhat hungry too."
Ignoring her plea, the older woman sat back down at her own seat, eating the sugar cake in her hand, and then took out a spoon and stirred the Mai Ru Jing in her enamel mug, filling the area with a sweet aroma that stirred the sleepers above.
The aforementioned woman just ’hmmphed’ and remarked, "How stingy."
The woman above retorted, "Qi Qiao, mind your language."
Qi Qiao shot back, "Don’t think just because I call you ’sister-in-law’ you can boss me around."
The expression on the woman’s face turned sour instantly, glancing at the man sleeping on the bunk across with a look full of grievance, then started to get ready to go down.
Just then, the woman known as Qi Qiao called out to the man above, "Brother Yang, I’m hungry."
The man known as Brother Yang replied, "Ask your sister-in-law to get you breakfast. Tell her what you want to eat."
Hearing this, the few people in the carriage looked on with disdainful expressions; Luo Qiao thought to herself that this man really was a scumbag!
