Chapter 293: Chapter 293: Truly Incurable
Luo Qiao heard this and knew what they were going to do, with the tickets already bought, so she didn’t say anything more, keeping their kindness in her heart.
As soon as Ning Xueling came back, she went straight to the kitchen to help. She felt that keeping busy in the kitchen was an excellent way to avoid facing Luo Qiao, as she really didn’t know how to interact with her.
She had just come out of the kitchen when she heard Luo Siyuan’s words, and her thoughts immediately turned to Zhao Jianing, not far from Ji City. Torn and conflicted, she wanted to suggest they visit Jianing to see how she was doing, but she also felt that wouldn’t be fair to Luo Qiao.
She had mustered the courage to come out and wanted to speak a few words to Luo Qiao, but now she turned around and went back to the kitchen. At the moment, she was somewhat relieved that Luo Qiao didn’t want to return to Capital City for high school, since being together every day would have been incredibly awkward.
As a mother, she really was hopeless; Haotian caught a glimpse of Xueling’s actions and sighed inwardly that there was no cure for her indifference. Their daughter was leaving tonight, and she still wasn’t taking the chance to bond with her; it was truly exasperating.
Haotian stood up and said, "I’ll go check if the dinner is ready. Let’s eat early so we can get good seats for the show. After the performance, we’ll have just enough time to pack up for the train; it’s perfect timing."
Grandpa Luo and Grandma Luo kept reminding Luo Qiao to call them if she needed anything after returning to Ji City, while Luo Siyuan was nearby, packing the things he intended to take with him. Initially, Luo Qiao said she had too much stuff and wanted to leave some behind, but the Luo’s elderly couple stopped her.
Once Luo Siyuan was ready, and the food was served, Ning Xueling came over and said, "Dad, Mom, Qiaoqiao, dinner’s ready."
During the meal, Ning Xueling uncharacteristically served Luo Qiao food several times, and after thanking her, Luo Qiao said, "Thank you, but I can serve myself."
Ning Xueling said, "Then make sure to eat a lot."
Haotian thought to himself, finally, his efforts weren’t in vain. If the two of them were unhappy with this interaction, future good relations might be difficult.
After dinner was cleared away, the family headed to the auditorium; the factory was hosting a performance that evening. Since the mechanical factory’s official opening ceremony was on October 3rd, the National Day gala was always scheduled for the third, hitting two birds with one stone.
Since Haotian had seats in front, the Luo family benefitted and got places towards the front as well. Soon after they were seated, the auditorium was full.
The gala started precisely at seven and ended at nine. Luo Qiao’s train was at ten that evening, so the timing was just right, especially since the mechanical factory wasn’t too far from the train station.
Many relatives sitting nearby greeted Haotian and Xueling, but their gazes were fixated on Luo Qiao. Some even specifically made their way over to their side, pretending to look for their seats upon seeing Luo Qiao.
Once the gala began, Luo Qiao kept feeling like someone behind the stage was watching their direction, but when she looked, she didn’t notice anyone.
Haotian watched his daughter’s expression carefully: "Qiaoqiao, what’s wrong?"
Luo Qiao whispered, "Somebody behind the stage curtains keeps looking this way, and I’m not sure if they’re doing it on purpose or not?"
As soon as she finished speaking, the lights in the auditorium dimmed, and a voice on stage said, "Our performance will officially begin in five minutes. Those who have not found their seats, please do so quickly."
Haotian said, "It’s nothing to worry about. Many people in the courtyard know you’ve come back and are probably curious since they haven’t seen you before and wonder what you look like."
After hearing this, Luo Qiao also thought it was probably just that, so she didn’t dwell on it, and the gala officially started at seven.
The program consisted mostly of singing, dancing, comic talks, and choruses. As someone from the future, Luo Qiao wasn’t too interested in these. When the show reached the halfway point—
The host walked to the center of the stage with a smile and said, "Next, we have a program slightly different from the previous years, one that involves interaction with our family members in the audience. We will pick someone from the audience to come up on stage and perform a show. Does that sound good?"
A bunch of young people shouted in agreement, "Good!"
Then the host laughed and said, "Now, who shall we choose?"
Those eager to go on stage raised their hands, shouting, "Me, me, me!"
