Chapter 277: Chapter 277: Return to the Farm
Luo Qiao returned home to find that Lu Yichen and Stone had already arrived, dinner was cooked, and the vegetables were washed, cut, and ready to use.
As Luo Qiao entered, Lu Yichen looked at her, "Did something happen? Why are you coming back so late?"
Luo Qiao put down her backpack, rolled up her sleeves to start cooking, and recounted the day’s events at school.
Those profound eyes of Lu Yichen flashed with an ambiguous light, his face seemingly unchanged, "I’ll sort this out for you, you just watch and be at ease."
Luo Qiao snorted coldly in her heart, "I’m not in a rush anyway. I won’t have time to deal with them these days. They think they can get away with just an apology after provoking me, wishful thinking."
Hearing this, Lu Yichen showed a hint of a smile and said, "When you come back from your National Day holiday, I’ll definitely give you a satisfactory answer."
The ribs were stewed until tender, a few vegetarian dishes were stir-fried, and after dinner, Lu Yichen cleared the table while Luo Qiao packed up the things she needed to take with her. When everything was ready, it was also time to leave for the station.
Stone originally wanted to accompany them to the station, but it was indeed late, so Lu Yichen turned down the offer. Luo Qiao comforted him for a while, and Stone finally smiled, "Then, sister, come back early and be safe on the road."
The two took a detour to drop Stone at the gate of the compound where Lu Yichen lived. It was Luo Qiao’s first time there, so she took the opportunity to recognize the place as home.
Lu Yichen had bought a standing ticket and accompanied Luo Qiao onto the train. He handed her the things he prepared, and then said, "Be careful on the road. Remember to call me when you come back, and I’ll pick you up."
After saying that, he got off the train, stood on the platform watching the train pull away into the distance, and then left the station.
Once out of the train station, his expression turned grave as he thought, Ding Xiangdong, you’re really something. I haven’t even settled our last issue, and here you are, spouting irresponsible words just to please your girl.
After leaving the train station, Lu Yichen didn’t go straight home but headed to the police station and made a phone call.
Luo Qiao waited for the train to move out of sight of Lu Yichen before belatedly opening the canvas bag he had stuffed into her hands. Inside were cans of tangerines, fruit candies, White Rabbit Creamy Candy, and two packs of brown sugar — a small canvas bag packed full.
For some reason, Luo Qiao suddenly felt a warm, sweet feeling in her heart. The sensation of being cared for was quite nice; before she knew it, someone had gradually begun to enter her heart.
The train wasn’t due to arrive until five in the morning the next day, and after arriving, she still had to trek more than fifty miles to get to the farm. However, usually there would be donkey carts and ox carts outside the train station heading toward the farm.
After getting off the train, Luo Qiao didn’t pack away the items Lu Yichen gave her; she simply carried them on her back. She knew these were things Lu Yichen had prepared for her to give as gifts when she returned to the farm.
The station was small, so after getting off the train and walking just over fifty meters, she was already outside the station.
Looking around, she could see ox carts and donkey carts across from the station. Those were run by local brigades as a side business. Luo Qiao approached and noticed a wonton stall not too far away.
She walked over, and as she passed the ox and donkey carts, some people asked her, "Miss, need a ride?"
Luo Qiao responded kindly, "I’ll have a bowl of wontons first."
The people watched Luo Qiao with smiles, "Alright, go ahead. Old Wang’s wontons are really fragrant."
After finishing a bowl of wontons, Luo Qiao smiled and said, "You’re right, they’re very fragrant and tasty."
She asked for another serving to be packed, intending to take it to Grandma Luo’s grave because she knew from the original owner’s memory that Grandma Luo had a fondness for wontons and dumplings. Stumbling upon them was a way to show her respect.
Luo Qiao negotiated a price with a kindly looking old man, boarded the donkey cart, and headed toward the farm. As she was traveling alone without sharing the ride, it cost her two Yuan, which was quite a bit.
The road wasn’t easy to travel on, and after nearly three hours, she arrived at the farm around nine o’clock. Luo Qiao paid off the old man and, gazing at the unfamiliar yet familiar entrance to the farm, her eyes unexpectedly moistened.
When Luo Qiao came to her senses, she was startled, wondering if somehow the original owner’s consciousness hadn’t left yet, but that seemed impossible. Perhaps it was a sliver of lingering attachment left in the body. She began walking towards the entrance of the farm.
