Chapter 264: Chapter 264: Zhao Jianing Being Bullied
The ticket seller was in a dilemma, visibly aware that Zhao Jianing was not an ordinary person just by her attire. Just as she was about to speak, Luo Siyan said, "Zhao Jianing, stop making trouble out of nothing.
You arrived late and still want others to give up their seat for you, what do you think? Are you seventy or eighty years old? I haven’t heard that you get motion sickness. It’s not good for someone so young to lie. Sit down quietly at once."
Hearing this, the ticket seller said, "Comrade, the bus will start soon, please take a seat. Make sure you don’t lose your footing and fall when we take a turn." The ticket seller’s countenance was no longer as friendly as before.
Biting her lip, Zhao Jianing reluctantly sat down, hating Luo Siyan to the core. Luo Siyan had always been at odds with her, and even now, she was as unpleasant as ever.
Luo Qiao snorted coldly in the front, thankful that someone stepped in to stop the fuss; she wouldn’t mind making Zhao Jianing embarrass herself right upon her return – she really needs to stop being so spoiled.
The ride was tremendously bumpy, those sitting on small stools frequently shifting their seats, occasionally bouncing up and down. Zhao Jianing, sitting next to the bus door, was swaying back and forth, enduring a great deal of discomfort.
She also had to make room for other passengers to get off, infuriating her until her face was sour with anger. Once, she even accused someone who was getting off of bumping into her, resulting in a retort from the person and a woman behind, "If you can’t stand the crowd, why ride the bus? Do you think you own it?"
Zhao Jianing was so frustrated she nearly cried, but of the entire bus, not a single person sympathized with her – they all thought she was too dramatic.
It wasn’t easy, but they finally arrived at Chaoyang Commune. After getting off, they learned they still had a few miles to walk to reach their destination, which made everyone worry about the belongings on the ground.
As soon as Luo Qiao got off the bus, she saw Lu Yichen waiting for her: "Why are you here?"
Lu Yichen smiled, "I had some business at the commune, and figured I could wait for you here."
Luo Qiao chuckled, "How did you know I was coming back today?"
Lu Yichen swung onto the bike, "If you don’t return soon, the vegetables in your yard will wither. I guessed you’d definitely come back this week."
Luo Qiao, seated on the rear of the bicycle, asked, "What about Stone? Is he back or still in the city?"
Lu Yichen replied, "He came back with me. Their school arranged teachers to attend a training session organized by the Education Bureau yesterday afternoon, leaving students with assigned homework. Stone got permission from the supervising teacher."
Luo Qiao inquired, "So you both came back yesterday?"
Lu Yichen hummed in acknowledgment, "Yes, we returned yesterday afternoon on a car that was headed to the county for a case. It was conveniently on the way."
What Lu Yichen didn’t say was that he had wanted to check the atmosphere of the village first and had some matters to handle, so he came back earlier.
Just as he was about to pedal away, they heard someone chasing after them, asking, "Comrade, which way to Qingshan Village?"
Lu Yichen turned to see who it was: "You’re heading to Qingshan Village?"
Luo Siyuan replied, "Yes."
Lu Yichen glanced back and said, "Just go straight from here, it’s not far, you can almost get there in half an hour."
Luo Qiao laughed inwardly, half an hour without carrying anything, maybe, but with all their belongings, it could take them an hour to arrive, unless they were lucky to hitch a ride on a bullock or donkey cart.
After Lu Yichen spoke, he pedaled away. Only when he was far did he say, "Those two must have come for you, right?"
Luo Qiao looked towards the crops in the distance beginning to turn yellow, "Hard to say, didn’t you see they were here to drop off their sister?"
Lu Yichen noted, "Look closely, they do bear a four or five-point resemblance to you."
Once Lu Yichen’s bicycle had gone a distance, Luo Siyuan exclaimed, "Big Brother, didn’t you think that girl looked somewhat like us?"
The two brothers exchanged glances, and Luo Siyan said, "I was wondering why that girl seemed familiar. She might just be our sister Luo Qiao."
Anxiously stamping his foot, Luo Siyuan lamented, "Why didn’t we recognize her just now? Oh well, Brother, go and find a cart to help us transport this stuff. We can’t carry it all by hand."
Luo Siyan hurried towards the brigade at the commune. In no time at all, he managed to borrow a donkey cart; the brigade wouldn’t have lent it if not for his crisply pressed military uniform.
